About joining RPs:
So a number of people, have asked me about how to join roleplay events like this one. In my experience, most open RPs are announced and organized through discord servers, the biggest ones for the European data centers being the FFXIV CHOAS ROLEPLAY COMMUNTIY and the Light Roleplay community servers.

When I started playing FFXIV years ago I didn’t understand how the game worked. I started as a Lancer and wanted to be a rogue, so I left Gridania and set out at level 10 to reach Limsa Lominsa. I traveled the entirety of the map that I could before learning I couldn’t actually reach Vylbrand yet, but I had such an amazing adventure and met so many people while I traveled that it was how I played the rest of the game. I don’t torture myself like this anymore most days, but I make sure that until I finish MSQ or major questlines I never rush anything and only act in game in the most immersive way possible. The game is so much more fun because of it.

Literally similar to "The Walk" in WoW. Night Elves used to have to cross half of Kalimdor (Teldrassil -> Booty Bay) and the entirety of Azeroth (Stranglethorn Vale -> Stormwind) if they wanted to play with their Alliance friends. I still remember sneaking past all the higher level mobs AND ultra-high level Horde players on the way, boarding the same ship as them without them noticing. And it's one of my fondest memories of my time there.

Yep Blitzball is seasonal though. Usually happens in the Spring/Summer. I think it started early this year because of Dawntrail though.

(Though the tabletop idea is kinda intriguing.) But also, you can do this sort of thing from the comfort of your own home and you don't need to learn how a game you might not be as familiar with works. All in all, I think I'd be down for either. (Or Ether.) 😅

i mean with the whole lore of xiv specific dragons and plot of HW in mind i think it would be kinda ooc for the Anyx Trine settled dragons to just attack and eat people just for the sake of eating them with no provoking. I would have been upset if the dm had treated and written them like mindless hungry monsters

I think their mindset comes from either sharing the perspective of a sprout that hasn't finished HW's MSQ, or the mindset of everyday npc in the areas before the end of HW. And I think the plot twist that was experienced at the end of that particular bit is a funny thing I once thought about too for at least one of those followers considering the turn of events about the dragons. (Being vague in case someone reading this hasn't finished MSQ)

But again it comes down to how the organizer would choose to frame it in their narrative if they treat it and set it up in their story like its a norm or an outlier

This is a better planned and wonderfully edited version of something I did in WoW. It started as a random thing in Orgrimmar, with players going around in a "mammoth parade", walking in single file with mammoth mounts. Then there was the idea of RP walking to Ratchet, then walking through Stranglethorn Vale, and finishing near the entrance of Stormwind. There was something strangely compelling about slowly travelling through a large fantasy world. I would love a fantasy game with built-in features that helped to create a similar feeling. :D

@@Art2D2Well, I hear the NA servers have their own RP community. Not really involved there, because of the massive time difference. In Europe, we arrange RP events through Discord Servers! I am sure the US might have something like that? I know in Light on EU, we have community Discord Servers, where we share events that are planned. For this particular open world event, a whole extra server was made even! Since we did a few different Caravan excursions! That server closed now, as we ran out of places to travel too, but you get the idea! Once a community has a place it can communicate, this becomes alot easier!

If only more MMOs had this level of attempt at RP. In some cases, D&D does a better job because roleplay is almost always a requirement. In these games, we kinda forget to stop being the chosen one for a second. Meanwhile sometimes I feel the opposite, I don't feel mysel special considering all other players do the same thing, so I focus myself on the skills I have, not what the plot makes me be.

It varies between players in my experience. I've seen people set things up to write paragraphs at a time as if it were an RP forum, but then there's those that engage in light RP such as random small conversation between characters with the "RP" tag on as their status.

This event took place in EU data centres - there are discords for both Light and Chaos RP communities to find venues/events. This particular one was mostly organised by a guild called Aetherveil.

For a while when i first started i was on Balmung before i knew about it's reputation, made myself a big buff femroe monk, and a couple of times ended up being asked to play bouncer at a venue or two, basically just ensuring people didnt have weapons out and stuff like that, it was actually really fun, ended up moving to Gilgamesh for some friends, so that kind of opportunity isnt always right around the corner anymore unfortunately.

This honestly looks pretty fun when there are a bunch of people grouping up. However I'll always hate RP players who go into a dungeon with 3 other non-RP players and slow down the entire group - and I'll die on that hill. When some MF roleplays an old man, walks slow AF and tells us that "My legs can't carry me like they used to anymore. Surely you understand." then I absolutely lose my shit. Normally, FFXIV RP Discord server are the best place to start looking for events like this. And yes, the people organizing these events are normally quite open to newcomers =)

I recently started playing the game thanks to a friend who's really fan of Final Fantasy. I've never, in my life, touched a Final Fantasy game before, but after watching these kinds of interactions I really want to try one at least once. I'm a big RP fan and I've always wondered how people make RP in an MMO and I'd love to learn. Problem is, I don't know how to approach comunities for this. I worry too much that I might screw it or it would become a bit awkward since I almost don't know anything about FF lore. Is there any advice you or someone could share with me, please? Great video, btw, I loved the personality your character has and its motivations. The animations and voice acting was really good, too. I hope you share more stories like these with us in the future!

Hey! Thanks for your nice words. Happy you enjoyed the video =) Regarding how to find RP communities, I left some info about that in the video description. As for how to act in RPs, I would say all you really need to do is show up and don't be a jerk. Literally everyone who does RP are at least somewhat socially awkward, so don't worry about that. The only major faux pa I can think of is what can broadly be referred to as "godmodding". This is basically the practice of making your own character untouchably overpowered, or making decisions about what happens to other people's characters. For example, if you and another player end up in a brawl, you can decide that you want to try and punch the other person, that's fair game. It's not fair game to decide that you definitely hit the other player's character though, because the other player should reasonably be given the opportunity to try and defend themselves in such a situation. Usually in such a case, the two players make a dice roll against each other to determine if the attack is successful or not. The reason this is so frowned upon is that it is extremely unenjoyable to be on the receiving end of it. It is just not fun at all to not be allowed to play your own character in a way you yourself want to, simply because some other player is basically going "Nuh-uh! I don't stop that!" And if you're not sure if something is or isn't okay to do, all you really need to do is ask. RPers always have some way of communicating out-of-character, usually through a separate discord channel or by putting any OOT communication in brackets. Pretty much any decent DM or RPer with some experience will be willing to help out newcomers when they have questions. Beyond that, just have fun, don't interfere with everyone else's fun and you should not have anything to worry about =)

My first time through any ff14 expansion, I refuse to mount unless I am backtracking or otherwise have to. Gives a better sense of being on an epic adventure IMO.
