I adore the NES version of the theme the most. It's by far the most melancholic and almost oppressive sounding one. Like it weighs really heavy on you. So beautiful.

​​@@RichterTheRat in my opinion, if any final dungeon in the series should be overproduced, it should be FF2's. It's literally Hell, a place of avarice, evil and gluttonous power. It should be loud, proud and intimidating of a theme. That's exactly why I also agree that the pixel remaster is best. It's not just hell, but the home of the ultimate evil that rules it.

They took an old dated song that would only sound repetitive by todays standards and freshened it up enough to not only make it sound modern, but extend it to not make it feel nearly as repetitive. Well the old NES soundtrack does work quite well, but the Dawn of souls version would not fit the pixel remasters at all.

Interesting how the IX version is the only one that captures the despair that is mixed with grim determination of the original. The others were arranged with the knowledge that it's a theme for the final dungeon and so it has to be made "epiczzz", especially the Pixel Remaster version. Who did that, Soken?
