Well they've both been hardened through tragedy, Noctis from losing both his father, his fiance, and his home because of Divine Providence, and Cecil because his adopted father and his older brother were manipulated by some weird moon guy and Cecil was forced to participate in the attempted genocide of the summoner clan (anyone else seeing some parallels between Cecil Harvey and Roy Mustang from Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, or is it just me?)

I'm of the ones that prefers the old school pretty boys designs like Cecil and WoL. They look more "fantastic" and impressive to me, a lot of details in their designs. I even find Cloud and Squall a little more interesting eventhough they are not as colorful, while I find noctis design kinda boring... :(
