Final Fantasy Renaissance (FFR) is intended as a tribute to the original Final Fantasy game released by Square on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1990 (US version). There are currently two distinct game modes in FFR. “Classic Mode” and “Renaissance Mode”.
Classic Mode is, first and foremost, intended as a faithful recreation of the original Final Fantasy game…but…with all known bugs fixed (such as spells that never worked before or NPC characters who are invisible or can move through walls).
Renaissance Mode is, essentially, the same core game as Classic Mode, but with a number of new job classes available to choose from, as well as new game mechanics added (such as job-specific abilities usable inside and outside of combat). The new job classes I’ve added are all based on job classes introduced in later games in the Final Fantasy series (such as Evoker, Lancer, Blue Mage, and many more…).

The Geomancer can cast as many random spells as he wants in a fight. The random cast also has a chance to refill specific casts. The Tamer is my favorite new character: - Level 1 Control is spotty, but they higher his level, the easier it is. - Wounded characters are also easier to control, so I'll use my caster to hit the character before I try Controlling it - a controlled character becomes a valid target for enemy attacks, so it reduces the amount of hits on your team - Controlled monsters seem to always crit, but sometimes it's great to just remove a dangerous enemy from the board. - your blue mage can Spell Lure a controlled enemy's ability. You can't point the cursor at him, but he'll just absorb the spell

Yeah someone mentioned the pokemon style game play for tamer success and having the extra target is great.

I just started playing this last night it seems pretty good so far although i only made it to the marsh cave before i had to get off. Saw your video in my recommended and noticed we picked almost the same party, i picked time mage instead of tamer, so i figured id check you out. I like what ive seen so far!

Nice, the different classes made it hard to settle on which comp. I wanted to try out. Let me know if you post your playthrough and I will check it out. Hope you have fun.

Geomancer is the carry all game. You just use Terrain every turn you want to try and refresh the spell you want to use. They absolutely dominate in the pennisula of power with their ability to potentially paralyze on command.

Yeah, it certainly seems that way. At the moment they do seem balanced though with being low hp and defense

Friendly recommendation: Tank: fighter, dk, Lancer Dps: monk, thief, trainer Sup/heal: dancer, red m, white m, green m, time m, bard M-dps: evoker, black m, red m, blue m, geomancer *Take (1) from each role for best results (Sorted from best to worst)*

Are red mages viable end game in this version? I love red mages.

@@jessdanielson9446 simple answer: yes. Slow to start, middle game good, end game weak physically (you need him to heal, rez, buff as any support/healer should be used in boss fights). Take a tank (DK/FIGHTER/LANCER), red mage, a dps (MONK/THIEF/LANCER), and a (evoker OR dancer) and you will win consistently and have fun. Guaranteed! 👍

Thank you for the advice. I was thinking a lot about bringing a bard but I wasn't sure how well they would perform overall in the game. I read they get one of the best spells but they require a significant amount of overworld searching for them to finally obtain it.

@@busygamerdad the bard has incompatibility with some classes (dk and other who sleep/confuse foes) (dancer and other buffing classes) because their weapons (harps) attack all foes (music).

Dk => sleep, poison, blind, paralyze, drain/bleed (healing), pain (revenge damage) Blue mage => fire/ice/lit/ null elemental attacks, blind/poison/stone/stun/death (crack/rub) Evoker => fire/ice/lit/ earth/wind/water/null elemental attacks, confuse/death (odin), protect/reflect/image buffs, heal-all/cure-all/ rez-all

He is the first streamer that I aligned with while watching his first playthrough of FF1 so it only seemed right.

Dk and trainer have good synergy (bleed lvl4 spell the summoned monsters) Good game. I hope you like it as much as I do.

I am hoping for good teamwork for the DK, Tamer and Blue Mage. The geomancer seems to hold their own but does play into assisting them.

Special classes: Evoker, thief (search everywhere) Bard, dancer, blue mage (are the social classes) Need to talk in towns/npc zones.

I like the addition of the "social" overworld classes. It makes every where impactful and important depending on party make-up.

I had the message speed too fast that I didn't realize that myself. Thank you for verifying it. I wonder how much higher level the Tamer needs to be from the monster so that it hits when they are at full HP.
