I love how the aria of Celes in this opera is in harmony with her story. When she had to leave the party in the magitecfactory and Locke and she were seperated. It's like the first part where Draco sings. And then after the world got ruined the sucide scene where she thinks of Locke and jumps is like the scene where she hinks of Draco and throws the Flowers. And you can go on. Draco is Locke, Maria is Celes and the Prince is Kefka. And that's one of many reasons why FF6 is simply genious!!

I always interpreted the opera is not actually as happy as it seems. I thought that Draco in fact did 'not' come back and save Maria. Instead, during the ball scene, the battle is metaphorical between the love Maria has for Draco, versus the love Ralse has for Maria. During that mental struggle between them both, Ralse truly gains an understanding of the depth of feelings Maria had for Draco, and 'duels' the spirit of Draco in her mind, but loses. Thus, Ralse, understanding no matter what he did, Maria would never truly be 'his', lets her go, and moves on, saddened that he won't have the woman he cares for. The ending supports this idea, as the final words sung by Draco and Maria are that they'll 'wait forevermore'. Which while they are together on stage/on screen, implies that they aren't actually "together" as it were. Instead, this is Maria finally accepting that Draco is dead, and she knows that all they have to do is wait, and eventually, when Maria does die (possibly the ending being her suicide to join Draco), she'll be with him again. This makes it much more of a classical tragedy, and one of lovers torn apart by war, who can only be together again in death. It's a rather bleak ending, but it actually ties in well to the themes of the game, about finding a purpose to live. Maria in the opera chooses to not find any new reasons to live. Celes on the other hand (and by extension the other characters) finds their own paths forward despite the eventual state of the world thanks to the machinations and evil that Kefka has wrought.

It makes so much sense. As beautiful as it was, an opera about a love triangle rarely has a happy ending. The tragic ending gives it a much stronger emotional impact.

FF VII's cutscenes get a lot of deserved credit.... but it was here that console video game storytelling really began to change you could say, on that day, the world was changed forever ... /grin
@noirrain60057 жыл бұрын
Trevor Philips tbh it changed with FFIV. Cecil and troupe.
@TrevorPhilips7 жыл бұрын
for me games changed with FF IV, for sure... was first time I played a video game and it was the story that captured me. but in terms of storytelling? .... I say VI more because ... I think IV stands out less because it's got a simpler story: in terms of, I mean, a very simple, direct, overly melodramatic -- it mostly just uses a lot of character deaths. In that way, it was actually alike a lot of JRPGs at the time. 'Find a magic thing; characters die; sad; save the world; happy.' FF IV did that best maybe but a lot of simple SNES JRPGs did that. But VI rewrote the rules of RPG storytelling: action chase sequences, operas and stagecraft (and a big leap in 'cinematography' ... (the way the game would 'pan' over towns or environments), major battles or multiple POVs. The reason why I think VI stands out a lot more was because IV mostly told a story in a similar way to a lot of JRPGs at the time. VI drastically changed storytelling. IMO ^_^
@chardonnay57674 жыл бұрын
The first three installments in the Final Fantasy franchise were more basic JRPGs in comparison to the later games, back when Square was still fooling around with the engines and concepts trying to make ends meet. FFIV is the first one where they put much more effort into the storyline, then V had an intricate job system but with a somewhat generic McGuffin storyline, and the first time they hit it out of the park was with FFVI. Sure, the game has its flaws, most notably the cast of characters that got completely out of hand, but overall it's a monument of JRPGs that either created or cemented some of the genre's tropes. The opera house idea for one can be worked into any kind of "puzzle/questing area that depends on more than mere combat sequences for pacing" like for example Wall Market in FFVII. FFVII streamlined many of the shortcomings in VI, and that's the game where they started to dabble into cinematography. You could credit many FF games for a variety of things.

I'd like to see a full opera based around the music of this; with creative liberties, there's potential for a Verdi-style tragic opera in there. For example: LA PROFEZIA DEL SOGNO ACT I: Prince Ralse and his loyal retainer and friend, a knight by the name of Draco, speak to each other at a party of a shared dream between the two of them the previous night: a voice told them that they would both find love at the party ("Amore dal Sogno"). Enter Maria, a beautiful woman whose beauty causes both Ralse and Draco to fall deeply in love with her. Maria, on the other hand, falls in love only with Draco. Ralse is immediately jealous, but pushes it aside, refusing to betray his friend and believing he can woo Maria away without conflict ("Non tradirò"). Over time, Draco and Maria grow closer, and Ralse's advances prove fruitless, causing the latter to become increasingly envious, eventually giving in to temptation ("Sogno infido"). In an attempt to drive the two apart, Ralse sends Draco to the front lines of the war with the intent of causing Draco to die in battle. Ralse falsely tells Maria that Draco has died, then attempts to comfort her with the hope of winning her over ("Conforterò") . ACT II: Unfortunately for Ralse, Draco miraculously survived the battle, and learns of Ralse's plot. He sends Maria a letter that informs her of his survival, promising that he will return to her and confront Ralse ("O, Maria"). Maria receives the letter and is overjoyed, but concerned about what will happen when Draco and Ralse face off ("Amor Mio, Cara Bene"). Both Ralse and Draco have one last dream; Draco dreams that he will be with Maria forever, while Ralse dreams that he will be victorious in the coming fight. At a party Ralse and Maria are attending, Draco appears and challenges Ralse to a duel ("Mariolo, canaglio infido"). The two fight, and Ralse begins to overpower Draco. Before he can land the final blow, however, Maria leaps in between them, causing Ralse to unintentionally kill them both. Ralse, realizing the meaning of his dream, falls to his knees in grief and laments the fate of his former friend, his beloved, and the fact that he still lives ("Perdono, perdono... Sogno infido (reprise)"). -------------------- Yes, I know it's sad, but as Bugs Bunny once said, "What did you expect from an opera? A happy ending?" Also, please ignore any terrible Italian grammar/spelling, I used Google Translate because I'm lazy.

This was the first video game I ever played, when I was a toddler. When I learned to write, I remember writing down the lyrics to this song and singing it to myself, pretending I had a knight to sing it with. Oh, this brings back wonderful memories. :)

Oh wow *.* that is so . . i dont right now know what the word is . . to hear . Sure sounds cool to me though. I was 16 , in high school , and as sooN as a saw an ad for this game i told my best friend we muST get this. . we did . .and i always thought it was the soundtrack of what were the best years of my(our) life. Dont worry .. there is hope to come Romans 10 : 9 🌫️🤍

This is a very powerful piece. Much thought was obviously put into the creation of this short, yet dramatic opera.

DAMN IT, WHERE'S THE REMAKE??? DON'T MAKE US WAIT FOREVER, SQUARE!
@sassyavocado43376 жыл бұрын
Krizie they can't even piece together the promised ffvii remake if they are going to announce this one it will take them years if not decades to complete. Apart from that sadly ffvi has never had the popularity of vii so they probably won't make one

After seeing what they did with VII I rather stick with the original VI. Is just perfect the way it is.
@altrag4 жыл бұрын
@@franciscobutte They already did a 6 "remake." Unfortunately they got a lot of backlash over the 3d remaking of FF3/FF4 (idk why I thought they looked great).. so they did FF5 and FF6 more of a direct port.. essentially the same SNES-era 2D graphics with a a few FMVs thrown in here and there. I mean its still a great game but if I wanted to play the SNES version I can use an emulator. I was hoping for more out of a "remake." I guess that puts me in the minority though..?

Is no one gonna mention how my man Ultros has been struggling up there for the past five minutes, trying to push that 4-ton weight onto Celes 😂

It would be interesting if they ever do a full remake of this game what scenes they might change into CGI cutscenes.

Don't forget to change your names to Draco and Maria before you get married ^^
@anthonymurano47758 жыл бұрын
This gives me such a Phantom of the Opera vibe... Draco is Raul, and Ralse is the Phantom. They both love her, but in the end, he lets Christine (Maria) go be with her true love.

Definitely Phantom inspired. Ultros uses the Phantom’s terror tactics, the rooftop duet, “Maria” getting kidnapped at the end, all closely parallel the Phantom of the Opera.
