I've heard it a million times, but I did not notice until just now how much of a train motif runs all throughout the Bombing Mission piece. The chugga-ch-chugga rhythm, the hissing that sounds like steam being released, the occasional high screech that sounds like the brakes being applied... it's really cool, and super appropriate for that moment of the game if you are familiar with it.

Honestly the Bombing Mission theme is overrated. People always overrate intense moments and key moments of the story, but honestly, the best tracks are like _The Great Warrior, Holding My Thoughts in My Heart, Victory Fanfare, Flowers Blooming in the Church, Farm Boy, Listen to the Cries of the Planet,_ and but of course, _JENOVA._

It's also similar to parts of Shinra, Inc, which makes sense cause Shinra is the one making the Mako reactors. In Tifa's Theme, notice how in the second part there's a set of high notes (like a female voice), then a set of low notes (like a male voice) and then they are together. It's hinting at the connection between Tifa and the main character. It would be interesting to hear your reactions to the equivalent songs from the remake. I was worried about them before the game's release, but I think they captured the original melodies incredibly well and obviously are no longer limited by the PS1 sound chip.

My only issue with Remake's arrangements is how many of the songs that incorporate sound effects (the ticking clock in Hurry! and the finger snaps in The Turks for instance) no longer do, and man does that ever kill their edge. You have completely changed my perception of Tifa's theme though!

I also just noticed something about Tifa's Theme. Or at least, I think I did. Some parts of the song, as least as far as I can tell, there's some similarities to the song that preceded it, Anxiety, or Anxious Heart, building off of the sense of hope towards the end of that song before it loops back around, hinting that both characters, Tifa and Cloud, come from the same hometown.

If you want a little more context, this entire segment of the OST you just listened to takes place in roughly the first 5 or so hours of the game. You begin in a large industrial, polluted city of Midgar (which is a major change in pace from the more Fantasy based entries the Franchise was known for). There's a corrupt mega corporation with governmental and militarized power, a very strong industrial presence, prominent Class Heirarchy, greed, poverty, vice, eco terrorism, and much, much more. If I dive any deeper I run the risk of spoiling a lot more than the broad strokes I used to paint Midgar already has. The diversity of tracks here audibly illustrates all the different aspects of Midgar, and the events and characters within. There are many more amazing tracks ahead. If you look at the full OST on KZbin, it's over 4 hours long.

Nothing is more powerful to stimulate and inspire our greatest memories to surface, besides smell, is music. Music shapes our personalities, influences our style of dress, makes us gravitate towards others who love our genre or just another music lover in general. Music plays the most important role in my life. I'd honestly be dead without it, learning guitar allowed this somewhat autistic guy to learn how to socialize. I couldn't hide anymore, it forced me to socialize and make friends. Without it, without music........I'd rather be dead.

I could go on and on about this, but I really, really hope to catch the next one. I agree with the commenter who likened Uematsu to a “modern day video game Bach.” He is so much more, and just “modern Bach,” to me would suffice- despite his impressionism- he truly is #1 in my eyes. His compositions, use of harmony…arrangements- were shaping my ears before I knew the theoretical phenomena- and I am still mystified by his work. To see it on your face…the inverse of how I experienced it-- you know what I’m gonna say now-

Cool to see someone react to this. FFVII remains my favourite JRPG, and this soundtrack means a lot to me. I'mma summarise the first time the tracks play, to the best of my memory. - Prelude: Title Screen - Opening ~ Bombing Mission: Intro cutscene, segue from flower girl to player party riding in on a train to knock down some guards and blow up a power plant - Mako Reactor: Going into the Reactor while Barret explains how they're literally sucking the life out of the magical Planet - Anxiety: Aftermath of ecoterrorism. You may have delayed the death of the Planet, but at what cost? - Tifa's Theme and Barret's Theme: Themes for important characters. xD - Hurry!: Actually don't remember first occurrence, though it plays in streesful events. - Lurking in the Darkness: I think this is when you're sneaking through the sewers or subway or something to infiltrate another Reactor - Shinra Company: Theme of the embodiemnt of corporate evil, the secondary antags of the game - Those Who Fight: Theme for generic random encounters - Fanfare: Victory in battle! - Flowers Blooming in the Church: Aerith's church theme. - Turks' Theme: Theme of Shinra's surprisingly human goons. - Under the Rotting Piza: Theme of the slums -- so-called because this dystopia has sectione dplate whereon the wealthy live that blocks out the sun from the ground-level slums. - Oppressed People: Another slum theme. - Honeybee Inn: A brothel's theme. - Who Are You? Iirc, this plays while you eavesdrop on President Shinra doing some occult ish in the Honeybee Inn, though it might also be used during Cloud's (the protag's) mind trips - Don of the Slums: Theme of the crime lord's mansion Cloud infiltrates in drag to save a girl. - Infiltrating Shinra: Sneaking into Company HQ to rescue same girl - Those Who ight Further: Boss fight theme. - Red XIII's Theme: Theme of another major character. - Crazy Motorcycle: Theme of chopping up motorcycles with a sword. - Dear to the Heart: Finally escaped the polluted city of Midgar, having realised there may be a bigger threat than Shinra, but there's also a big, beautiful world to explore. "Beret's Theme." xD

Wait till this song, that song, this song..." when I slowly realized I kind of... "waited" for 90% of the OST. FF7's OST is absolutely outstanding and Nobuo Uematsu is a name I will take to my grave within my heart. You can tell FF7 is a great game without even playing. There are people that are not into these kinda games, but most people like music to some degree and I humbly request everybody to at least give that a listen. I had to skim through for my favorites. Time spacing/stamps much appreciated!! :D I was looking for reactions to Final Fantasy Tactics OST but this still hit just as good! Thanks, creator for this upload. Wouldnt mind seeing more from 90s Squaresoft games, it was an epic time for their games' soundtracks! :)

I've played through this game far too many times, yet I've never noticed the connection between Anxiety and Tifa's theme until you started to detail the process of what we were hearing. It makes perfect sense given their place in the game (Tifa being Cloud's safe space from his internal struggle and doubt). An absolutely fascinating watch. If you've never played the game, a reaction to the Mega Drive classic Streets of Rage's OST would be a very interesting watch. In my mind, given the limitations of the hardware, it's one of the most impressive gaming soundtracks of all time.

Also, it probably does remind you of A Link To the past because up until FF7 Uematsu composed on the same Soundchip as ALTTP. To be fair, he kinda drew the sistine chapel with a dull pencil in FF VI, great listens throughout.

I used to listen to Tifa's Theme whenever I felt like I was in love. The sound it gives off just gives me immense feelings of happiness and sincerity. Mostly probably why I think Tifa x Cloud is canon, but that's neither here nor there.

AAAAA I've been bummed about missing your streams but I'm ESPECIALLY bummed about missing this one! FF7 is a musical masterpiece that transcends video games; Nobuo completely changed the game. His compositions have influenced modern day composers all over in a myriad of genres and mediums. Hope I can catch the next stream for sure, I'm still saving my monies to put towards Bill Wurtz! As an aside if you would like to listen to it on your own - the official piano arrangements for final fantasy 7 are absolutely masterful. As a pianist I'm still blown away every time I listen to that soundtrack, definitely worth it to revisit the piano collection OST. 👌

You've never played this? Because for us who played it, there's a such a visual interlink between the music and what we saw. Like in the opening and bombing we can still see the pullback over the city of Midgar at that crescendo. Aerith stepping out of the alley. The music taking the place of the sound of the train on the tracks.

Final Fantasy in general (especially Nobuo Uematsu composed games) have a heavy prog rock influence that I fell in love with at a fairly young age. It definitely has influenced my taste in music. I hope you get to the Remake as well as other games in the series eventually.

Meh. I know everybody is praising the FF7R remake of the Airbuster Theme ("Fight On"), but eh. I prefer the original. The original riff that made that theme so awesome is entirely drowned out by a sea of other sounds in the remake.
