Not a mistake. In Cloud’s dream, he thinks he’s dreaming back to the time right before Sephiroth killed everyone in his village. You could interpret this as Cloud thinking he was still working for Shinra back then. Cloud doesn't have Zack's memories. He merely integrated Zack's Nibleheim role into himself because it fit his SOLDIER persona. In Japanese culture, when rejecting someone's feelings, its considered polite to give them a reason why. Saying "its not real" is an excuse to let him save his pride. She simply has a notion of her fate and is trying to spare him that pain. But its too late. It pains her to say it because she loves him. It pains him to hear it because he loves her. ( just copy :)

It's just Square Enix not spoiling there own story to newcomers ^^" And probably also Cloud keeping up with his wrong narrative. In the beginning of the game when Cloud saw Sephiroth for the first time, there is a flashback of the Nibelheim incident where Cloud also wear the SOLDIER uniform (we only see his hands). The memory is most likely very real. It was already there in the Original and was never denied since. If they used the grunt uniform instead of the SOLDIER one in this cutscene it would just be a big spoiler. And even storywise, for Cloud, if he remembered himself dressed as a grunt it would have been weird. But you are right he should be wearing the Shinra grunt outfit here.

I'm reading some of these comments and I just have to tell you this is really weak evidence for Clerith. First of all, a literal interpretation of "older" woman is not enough to sail your ship on. This entire chapter demonstrates that Aerith is actually the least mature character in the game, she acts like a child the entire time, in fact Elmyra even comments on this to Cloud, saying "She's a handful isn't she" like you would say about a 5 year old. Aerith actually doesn't start to act her age until she spends some time around Tifa, who is the most emotionally mature person in the game thus far. Tifa actually demonstrates all of the qualities that Claudia is describing - she literally makes sure that Cloud has a roof over his head, gets work, and builds his reputation. She looks out for him knowing that he is not well, and she tries to respect his space. Now the nail in the coffin is Cloud's eye at the end of this scene, it's full of the starry night sky and the music playing is the same music that plays when he remembers the promise. Claudia may have ideas of who should be taking care of Cloud, and the implications are that she wants a girl for him that demonstrates the qualities that Tifa actually has. But in Cloud's mind, there's only one girl that he wants to take care of, she's the reason he left for SOLDIER. At this stage in the game Cloud is just barely starting to remember all of this, but right at this moment he wants to get back to Sector 7 and Tifa anyway. SE is gaslighting some of yall with this stuff and Aerith even tells yall it ain't real lmao. That whole resolution was actually for the player not even for Cloud. Cloti is canon

The way I always looked at it was arieth was probably attracted to cloud because of the Zach thing but quickly realized cloud was different and loved him for that (as seen in text in the original ) while tifa loves cloud because of who he was in their childhood . So basically I think cloud loved both of them but tifa is the one that was there for him when he needed to figure out who he was and while it is totally up to player choices I think that shows in advant children (cannon or not) that even if not romantic tifa and cloud trust each other to be parental figures to the kids in sector 7

Why the divide? They both clearly are romantic and very important to cloud, but quite honestly, there's many moments it's pretty obvious cloud has strong feeling for Aerith. That doesn't take his relationship with Tifa away, it's just clear he becomes in love with Aerith. Aerith's care free attitude doesn't take away from her wisdom. She's an ancient remember. She's on a different level. Which line's up with what clouds mother says. Does that mean he automatically loves her because his mom thinks he should settle down with that kind of girl? No, but it affects him clearly. Mom's know their sons, and sons who are even a little conscious know this as well. I honestly think Aerith's image is what pushes people to try to fit Tifa so much as the "one". The pure, wholesome, playful image of Aerith isn't everyone's prototypical love image, which I think Tifa fits better for some. Regardless. They both mean a lot to Cloud, but I'd say the period Cloud and Aerith are together, that they are the exclusive couple . I can make a list of a dozen small details that prove this, but I just don't have the time to explain for some body who doesn't want to see it.

Almost Cloud's memories are real, the only thing he did (due to the mako poisoning) was put himself in Zack's place, nothing like Zack "imprinted his memories on Cloud", what is that? Brain tranfer? In japanese she never says older of age, but mentality. I don't know why in eng, french and german, is translated like that. She's talking about Tifa because (exactly what Nojima wrote about Tifa, in Trace of two pasts), she used to cook and talk about Cloud with his mother. Claudia was trying to fish him out here and he was visibly flustered. She possibly couldn't talk about Aerith, since she didn't know her. The thing you noticed about Cloud's eyes, means exactly that. Then she stands up and wants to go back to sector 7. Why would he leave, if not for the thought of Tifa, worrying after she literally saw him falling from a reactor.

He just got scolded from Aerith's mother for being an "ex-SOLDIER" and told him to go away, which recalls a memory of his mother... thinks about his past and his village (coincidence the same place in which Tifa lived), thinks about his mother saying that he should settle down, but stay away from the temptations of the city (Aerith is a city girl, she has always lived in Midgar), that he should have a "more mature" woman (not "oldier", because chotto onee-san doesn't indicate age and it's not Aerith at all because she's childlike) who's gonna take care of him and keep him on the right path (there's no "silly goose" in the Japanese dialogue and the one who keeps him from going insane and is the one who knows, takes care of him, saves him, is Tifa)... also, Claudia knew Tifa and they were close. Then Cloud wakes up with a starry sky in his eyes and the theme "a tower a promise" (that plays when they were on the water tower the night when they made the promise) and then stands up and wants to get the f out of that house to go back to sector 7. He was thinking about Aerith so hard, that the first thing he did after waking up is saying "since I'm not welcome I'd better go"(original source). But yeah, Sabin made the mistranslations on purpose...makes sense because he's a Clerith (I'm glad that I know reasonable Cleriths only) and he's fake like y'all, so I'm not surprised. He basically changed all the game's dialogues to fit his narrative. Lol...If you only knew Japanese, you would be shaking. His mom mentions how there must be a lot of temptations in the big city and how she'd feel better if he had an older woman in his life to take care of him and bring him out of his shell. The weight of the scale tips in Aerith's favor. She does bring out a different side of him. Hidden meanings are plentiful in FF7R. If the music is any indicator though, while laying down, he didn't really want to listen to his mom, and even outright objects to the idea by turning away from her. If only she knew he already had someone in his heart. Upon awakening, it's symbolic to notice the stars within his eyes. The eyes represent the window to a person's soul...the sub-conscious part of him. There we learn the truth hidden within his eyes. His hidden feelings for Tifa. You have to be very conscious to pick up on Cloud's real intimate feelings. In this scene, he thinks that there may be something between Aerith and himself. Remake throws a budding relationship between Cloud and Aerith just like in the OG. It's not a mystery that we know there is something seriously wrong with Cloud in Remake. Aerith already knows this and toward the end, calls him out on it (like she always does). Without getting into her story * cough * (Zack), She's not interested in pursuing a relationship with Cloud.
