These series of videos are honestly video game anthropology. I enjoy that you've always made a point for being grounded in modernity instead of the nostalgia factor these games breed in the people who've played them for most of their lives. Yet you're still able to gush over the appealing quality each game brings. You're a gem.

Oh man. What a treat of a video this was, and a treat of a series in total. Your thoughts on 7R mirror my own in a lot of ways, and I'm not sure I have anything else to add to that discussion. But I'm also not sure I have the words for a proper REFFOID farewell either. Haha. I've learned so much about the FF franchise from REFFOID; Found so much enjoyment in your content for it. This series has been an extreme comfort watch for me. I can't count the number of times I've turned to one of these videos when I needed to distract myself from my day-to-day stress. I've blabbed endlessly about how cool this undertaking is to a whole cast of people by now. This is easily among my favorite content on KZbin- Potentially right up there in my number one spot. I know I was late to the party, but it's still a little surreal to know this is it. Well... thanks for everything you've done here. Thanks for sticking with this massive endeavor. You've made something truly special. And I look forward to your other content as well! I know you're dead and all, but zombies can make content just as good as the rest of them. You're a really engaging content creator, and very talented at striking a solid balance between entertaining and informative content. Without a doubt, I'll eat that up in your other, non-REFFOID content too. I've thoroughly enjoyed your videos on stuff like Kirby, Sonic, Moviepass, a handful of board games, and so on, after all. So yeah! I can't wait to see what else you do! Thanks again for all that you've poured into REFFOID! I've loved every second of it, and I know I'm not alone in that. I hope you've enjoyed the journey, too.

We've come along way. As a prelude to Rebirth, I would like to say that the journey has been amazing. I remember I saw the FFXIII video show up in my home feed. Only to find out you did twelve other videos prior to the series. I knew I had to start from the beginning. Bottles up as we enter Rebirth!

Im glad to see you surivive, tom. This series has been my go to encyclopedia for all things final fantasy, and has really solidifed my love for the series (even if i havent completed a single game yet) I cant wait to see where the series and the channel goes after this Much love

Barret's melee weapons in the OG FF7 can indeed shoot bullets at flying enemies.

I think Wedge surviving is hinting at the fact that he did survive in OG and may have died later in the underground lab. We didn't see a body after all.

I think you missed a big part of the story like a lot players did the first time playing remake. And I admit that this is no surprise, by how cryptic the storytelling is. And while understanding the story, i am clearly not best in explaining it. But the key here is the lifestream and how it works. The og explains, that the lifestream gives life to everything to the planet and contains the memorys of every living beeing in past the present and the future. So that implies that the future is fixed and the og game is a memory in the lifestream. So the lifestream represents fate/will of the planet. So that make the ghosts some kind of lifestream entity and in interviews, it was stated that it was initially planned to include them in the og game. In the og sephiroth states at temple of the ancients, that he became a traveller of the lifestream and gain the knowledge of the ancients and everything after. So he technically time travelled to the past, through the lifestream. In Remake he is basically trying to mess with the planets memorys to create an alternate future, where he is not be defeated. How can he achieve this? By not letting Cloud make the same experiences that make him into the character that is able to beat sephiroth. So if Aerith survives, she wont be able to stop meteor, but at the same time cloud would not have this growth in character and end up not beeing able to beat sephiroth. And this is also the purpuse of zach surviving. Because Zachs death heavily influenced cloud and is also one of the biggest moments, that made him the character, that beat sephiroth in the end of the day. Already sound like a mad man trying to explain all this. Highly recommend to check the channel of ProfNoctis as he does a good job at explaining the story.

I haven’t played rebirth as of the day I’m watching this. I hope if they do have her die and decide to bring her back that they pull a Chrono trigger but it’s more convoluted. I want to be a secret ending. I want it to be at the level where the original rumors of reviving her in ff7 were.

I'm not a fan of The Compilation and view most of it (story-wise) as fanfiction level quality. Basically everything outside of the original game I write off, except for Remake and Rebirth, because while they might falter story-wise in comparison to the original with new aspects added, the characterization is top-notch and they do enough things right (most plot beats, fleshing out the world etc.) that it gets a pass from me where everything else (Crisis Core, Dirge, Advent Children, the books etc.) don't. It's the only thing outside of the original game I actually find to be genuinely good. There's good elements in a lot of the compilation stuff (Zack is a cool character, AC has some good fight scenes), but Remake is overall a good product.

Replaying it right now, and I agree with this video so much, both the strengths of the game (combat is so good!) and weaknesses (some of those UI aspects). I just used the autoleveling on every single weapon because those orbits pissed me off so much.

6:05 Since you've expressed interest at completing the Final Fantasy series, have you considered some of "the other" spinoff series to have started off of Final Fantasy, such as the Mana series?
