I still can't believe this is a PS2 game. The dialogue, the storyline, the voice acting. Just a pure bliss, FFXII is already ahead of it's time. And the reason why I started to love RPG games. But now I still can't find any games that gives me similar feeling when playing this game.

This is from the PC version. The PS2 version of course does not have 4K or HDR. Final Fantasy 15 is probably the most similar to 12, and I love 15 too.

Another reminder that the English Dub was just fantastic for this game, still the best english location the serie ever get and it's not even close, and as an all this is one of the very few JRPG were the english dub completly blow the Japanese one out of the window.

Tales of Berseria had a pretty darn good dub as well. I mostly play with Japanese on, so I've probably missed some good dubs :P

To fully dive into the world, you have to do the side content and not just rush through. It's a masterpiece but requires some effort to fully play it. The 8 secret Espers are my favorite content in any game.

This game is not only my favourite Final Fantasy game, no. It is, in all honesty, my favourite game of all time. Why? Because there is SO MUCH LORE! The dub is AMAZING and the Soundtrack is beyond epic. Every single monster in the game has its own little chunk of lore and that hits its peak when we talk about the Espers. Of course, there is not MUCH info, but with the little info you get... there is SO MUCH room for inspiration. As someone who also writes stories... i WISH that someday i'll get to a level where i can create a world at least half as interesting as Ivalice. I have so much admiration for the creators of FFXII. The decision to bring back Ivalice was perfect, yet unfortunately not really as appreciated by the fanbase as it should be. The game got so much hate, it astounds me, but unlike with any other thing i love that gets flamed.. in case of FFXII i can only laugh at anyone who hates this game. I know, objectively, it's not perfect, no game is, but what makes it perfect FOR ME is the sheer amount of detail that went into this games lore.

I remember people hating XII, but as Ivalice Alliance fans, we all know how intrinsic this world feels to Final Fantasy. Eorzea’s aesthetics even borrow from it. I hope we get to see more Ivalice in the future.

@@venomsn4kee While an MMO, 14 tells the story like it was a single player game most of the time (doing parties and dungeons don't even make sense most of the time). But be aware that the first 80 hours (!!!!!) is INSANELY bad, with terrible pacing, fetch quests, back and forth, bad animation and almost no voice acting. It's not until the second expansion it start to be at least OK. And Ivalice isn't until faaaaaaar into the game, hundreds of hours. You can play as a Viera from the start though :P

I quite like the story in FF12, because it has villains whose reasons are understandable. They're not the standard "hahaha, power, planet goes boom!" villain. Vayne in particular appears genuinely convinced he is doing the right thing by removing the Occuria as a relevant force. In plenty of other games you play the Vayne, the person wresting control away from gods so that people can lead lives as they see fit.

Currently replaying and 100%ing it on TZA version on PC. Not gonna lie, having speedups helps a lot. Man, I used to be patient. Can't believe I 100% the original several times.

@@Atlas_Redux The international job system version back in PS2 had it as well. It's in japanese though. I had to resort to emulation trickery to install the english patch. There is one thing that I missed about the original version though. It's more difficult. In zodiac age and the international version, you can reduce yiazmat's power and defense with some tecks that trivializes it. This kinda ruin the game for me.

The thing is the judge speaks of some truths. Raithwall has the Blade of Kings meant to destroy nethicites. So he himself was doubtful of his own capacity as the dynast King because he's just a pawn of the Occuria. But humanity wouldn't have flourished since the other races are stronger than humans and had a better understanding of the mist like the Gariffs and the Viera. Eventually more human kingdoms are built and they each have their stones but Raithwall's direct descendants would not opt to use their own nethicite for generations.

Let's not be too critical, 12 is a rare gem of a game that knew exactly what it was (with the exception of Vaan and Penelo). XVI is a solid cast built on a new foundation. 12 had the backing of a wealth of lore that could give you this kind of dialogue.

Once again, FFXII is too damn underrated and hated because simpletons can't understand the lore and the world of Ivalice and decide to direct all that hatred towards Vaan because the story doesn't revolve around him (and yet these same haters love FFX, despite the fact that Tidus' relevance to the plot is at the EXACT SAME level as Vaan's).

Same reason I love Final Fantasy Tactics The War of the Lions, the storys are much darker and realistic. Seems that FF Games have the most potential, when they play on Ivalice 🙂

Final Fantasy XII is underrated, I agree. ...But it has issues beyond Vaan. The fast mode in the Zodiac re-release does a lot to help the game, because the pacing is...kind of all over the place, and the story's extremely lopsided. There's a lot of really juicy political drama going on in this game...but a lot of it happens away from our heroes. There are a lot of great scenes of plots and counter-plots and court intrigue with a lot of nuance to them, but they very often happen in the background, featuring the villains, while the heroes spend the middle third of the story on a seemingly endless series of fetch quests that only occasionally intersect with the really interesting stuff happening in Arcadia or the anti-Arcadian resistance. The Zodiac version gives you the option to make the middle section move along much more briskly, and it helps the story as a whole a lot, but if people who played the original version gave up on it halfway through, I get it.

Disagree on tidus. While they had the same role, the fact tidus is an outsider is the reason they could break the cycle. His relationship with yuna auron and jetch are important (tidus journey parallel is father) and gave us a lot of emotional scenes. ff12 antagonist has no business with vaan and don't care about him. vaan just don't fit into the story
