Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age - 100% Guaranteed Seitengrat Bow

After spending some time examining the RNG, I've discovered a way to consistently acquire the Seitengrat Bow, the ultimate weapon of FF12: The Zodiac Age.
Steps:
1) With the Diamond Armlet equipped on Vaan, make an auto-save outside the Skyferry heading from Rabanastre to Nalbina.
2) Close the game completely and reboot it from the PS4 menu
3) Load up the auto-save and hold up on the left stick so Vaan starts off running
4) Count each time his left foot hits the ground. Walk in circles, but be back by the door when his left foot hits 32 times. Go inside and immediately come back out.
5) Check and see if the invisible chest spawned upstairs. If not, close the game completely and try again. It looks like your timing needs to be exact, and it's difficult to reproduce consistently. Keep in mind the steps are only used as a way to time the RNG. You might find using a stopwatch to time around 21 seconds before entering the door to be easier.
6) Once you have it though, you're golden. Wait until the kid reaches the corner near you four times, and after the fourth time watch him as he walks back to his parent.
7) As soon as he stops, press X. The Seitengrat Bow should be yours.

It's clearly dev leftovers designed to test collision through walls with bows. target something, move around a corner, shoot, if it dies, the test failed and they rework collision systems. The weapon has no model or icon assigned to it, furthering that it was put in for devs. it was likely added in this way as a secret by someone on the team but dataminers found it and exploited it. The weapon is very clearly op asf and definitely not needed to finish the hardest things in the game. it would make the game far too easy and it's the scrubbiest thing you could do.

For those of you still having trouble, here's what worked for me: I made sure I equipped the diamond armlet and made Vaan the only party member BEFORE boarding the airship. I loaded the quick save, zoned in and out 11 times, then put down the controller. I walked to the kitchen, took out 7 beers and drank them. Then I called my ex-girlfriend and cried to her about how unfairly she treated me. She hung up after 30 minutes. I performed a ritualistic summoning of the demon Nergal in my basement but he refused to give me audience (don't worry, that means this strat is working!). Finally, I went back to my PS4 (no SSD, disc copy of game) and opened the chest and BAM! Got it first try. 100% repeatable. Now I have 13 Seitengrats, the approval of my estranged father, and guaranteed entry in to The Kingdom of Heaven upon my death. Life is great.

Anyone having trouble with the steps, here is what I did. I took a stop watch to this video and timed the exact time from the first footfall to the time he opened the door. I got about 19.2 seconds. I load the save and start running in circles, I start the stopwatch when my foot hits the ground. Aim to be at the door at 19 seconds and enter just after. out of 3 tries using this method I have had 2 chests and got 2 bows. hope this helps. also, thank you so much for finding this, sir. you've saved my sanity.

19.2 seconds has been the magic number for me. I fumbled around for about 10 attempts after I got my second bow. I timed the video again and got 19.2. I tried again at exactly 19.2 seconds and the chest spawned for my 3rd bow.

I'm going to explain it properly for everyone. This is the way to get the bow 100%. Make sure you are taking the airship from rabanastre to nalbina. Make sure to equip diamond armlet on Vaan and have Vaan as party leader. Next, go to the top of the airship and see if the chest is there, like it shows in the video. If the chest isn't there, go back through the door, as shown in the video, press the PlayStation symbol on your controller, and close ff12. Then relaunch the game and load the quick save. Now, after loading the quick save, wait for the music on the airship to start. Once you hear the music, start a timer you have. I used a stop watch on my phone. When you see your stop watch at 19:00, click X on your controller to open the door. 19 refers to seconds, just to be clear. Because of your slow reaction, door should open around 19:40. Now go check if the chest is there. Keep closing ff12 and relaunching and doing the 19second trick until the chest spawns. When the chest spawns, just like it's demonstrated in the video, wait for the kid to get back to the corner. On the 4th time, right as he runs back to the parent. Wait for him to completely stop, then hit X on your controller. Don't press it beforehand, wait for him to completely stop and press x right away.

Ok guys, i may have discovered a difference between the digital and disc versions. I wasn't having any luck getting the bow with the 20 second method on digital, but my girlfriend was getting them in chains 4 in a row; on disc. So i tried the 30 second method, and it started working. Every 5th zone. Conversely, she began failing to spawn the bow. For the digital, i believe you have to wait 30 sec, and disc 20. This has been our personal experience.

Still works two years later. This is the best method I've used to do this by far. It is all about the timing hitting the door on your 32nd step. Keep at it and you will get it after a few tries.

This method really does work, guys. He has upvotes on his video for a reason. The only thing he did not specify was that you HAVE to be on the Skyferry going from Rabanastre to Nalbina. Also, I did it on the digital version of the game with 20 seconds. You must also completely close the game and reload if the method doesn't work, not quit to the title. The reason why he mentioned it's a 100% chance is because when the chest spawns, this exploit works 100% of the time when the kid stops at the parent if you follow the direction.

I kept trying this steps method for an hour and it did not work. Here is how it worked for me: I'm using a digital version, Vaan as party leader with Balthier and Basch in the party, and Vaan is equipped with the Diamond Armlet. Now follow the video until the part where you close the game from PS button. Ready your stopwatch in your mobile and load your auto save. Now as soon as the game loads (as soon as you can see Vaan) start the stopwatch, while the stopwatch is running go back a little to the door behind you, the moment the stopwatch reaches 30 secs open the door (because you walked towards the door earlier when the time was ruinning you now only need to press X instead of running then pressing X). Go back immdiately (keep holding backwards when you opened the door). The chest should spawn now. Then wait for the kid and corner 4 times same as the video. Got 3 bows which I think is more than enough.

Anyone coming to this now, you can also create a save file with Recks in the prologue. Cure with him until you get 3 straight values of 88, 97, and 90. After that, soft reset using quit game, and load your airship autosave. The chest should already be spawned. Follow the kid as described for the bow. This should eliminate the first part of having to count steps or get perfect timing.

Holy shit! This method works. Took me an hour while doing this on my PS2 couple of years ago with the IZJS version. I just did what the video says, I'm patch 1.05 on my PS4 Pro, got the right number sequence after healing 3 times and got the bow in my first try. Nicely done, mate! Adding my experience here, i tried using this method for over an hour almost and to no avail, i managed to spawn 2 chests out of pure luck just by running back and forth between zones and i tried using the kid technique on them and both times it gave me Gil. Since i thought it was due to my ps4 having a different "tick" i just kept zoning in and out forgetting this method but after 2 hours i decided to try again and it worked first time after one minor change : Instead of closing the application and going for it again i restarted the ps4 entirely, mind you i have an original ps4, not a Slim nor Pro and i had been playing for quite some time before trying to even go for the Seitengrat. Maybe it was just sheer luck but restarting my PS4 seems to have finally reseted the RNG which closing the game didn't do for me as i got now 3 Seitengrats just for testing after my first one, 3 tries 3 chests 3 bows. Extra tip: Don't know if important but if you have any guest characters just try this method when they leave, i forgot to add this when i was with Larsa it wasn't working at all.

The Reks Cure method takes less time for spawning the chest and instead of looking at the kid for the chest look at the guy going up the stairs 4 times, when you reach the chest he already went up once.

the step thing wasnt working for me because im awful at keeping track but what i did was the split second there was visible visuals on screen from loading the auto-save, i immediately started a stopwatch on my PC and waited by the door ready to open it and at precisely 19 seconds i go to press X to open it usually activating it around the 19.1 - 19.2 mark on the timer (im watching it and not the game) and immediately go back out and its been there each time, six out of six attempts once i started using this method to spawn the chest. the boy method also works flawlessly and didnt need adjustment. i am using a regular base PS4 with a physical version of the game fully patched to the current 1.08 in case anyone think that matters

Confirmed method on PS4 pro. I used a timed method instead of the steps. As soon as the screen appears after loading I started a stop watch and waited at the door to press X to go back into the cabin. Right after 20 seconds appeared on the stopwatch I pressed X to enter the door. The chest spawned after zoning 4 times. Doing more attempts to hopefully replicate this.

I can confirm that after successfully spawning the invisible chest and waiting for the kid to walk back to his parents a 4th time that I got a Seitengrat. This method works but the way I did it was just run in a circle like the uploader did without counting (because tbh my eyes aren't the best and I cannot properly count when his feet touch the ground) and just hope that when I go upstairs to check that a chest is there that I was successful. Got it in less than 15 minutes from the moment I started trying so it's very much worth the effort in my opinion.

to all those who have troubled get this weapon, i'm right here to help you there are easy way how to get seitengrat - start new game - make sure vaan is at level 8 before entering rabanastre palace, so balthier and fran at level 9 (you can farm dustia if you have 3 phoenix down) - when balthier and fran join party for first time at garamsite waterway, set fran as leader because she have cure and unequiped weapon, make save file at save crystal - load game your data and go to skyferre / air deck to make auto save file - close application and start the game again - load game your data at garamsite waterway - number sequence you are going to look for is 114, 110 and 112, in order to get this number hit yourself (fran) 2 times, then start cure, keep cure over and over until you get 114, 110 and 112 number sequence - when you get this sequence, quit the game and load game your auto save file at skyferre / air deck - chest is 100% positively spawn once you go upstairs where chest is - pay attention to kid, after kid go to his dad, and he go to his first stop, once he get there, press X - you get seitengrat note : if you want to get another one, just leave make auto save file at skyferre / air deck, close application, start the game again, load game at garamsite waterway and do same thing. this method is 100% works for me, and its a lot easier, let me know if this method works for you ^_^

good heavens, I was sceptical but after a few tries it actually worked!! instead of doing those steps I just checked when that scene started (3:06) and ended (3:26) so I used a stopwatch, clicked start when I could see Vaan, turned around so I could press X any time, then at like 19.45 seconds pressed X again and then continued just as the vid says, aka turn around and exit out and wait for the 4th stop of the kid :D

It's a dev weapon never intended to be obtained and was likely put in the game by a sneaky staffer. the weapon has no model. this is fairly common.

Finally I got one. It took me hours and i tried every method i found... the step counting method, the simple waiting method, zoning and more. I think most of the Time the chest spawned when i counted the steps. But Never the First Time i went up to the chest. I still had to zone a few times before the chest appeared. If the chest didnt spawned After 10 Times zoning, i closed the Game and loaded the airship save again. The next Problem was the loot of the chest. I tried again all tactics i found in the guides but everytime i got 10 gil or the Knot. I dont know if this really matters but i focused on the kid and counted till he talked the 4th Time with his farher. And After i think 4 hours i got my seitengrat :) good luck with your bows!

To anyone having trouble with the steps, here is a play by play of what I did to make sure I got it on my first try & so that you can get it too! Firstly, equip the Diamon Armlet and make sure Vaan is the only one in the party going in. Next, take some time to look at Vaan's left spastic leg and while counting to 32, make sure that once you get to the 25 or 26 range to quickly make a b-line towards the exit. Another method that definitely works is the 20-second timer where the moment you see Vaan spawn in, that timer should on.This method has had varying levels of success and if you are using a timer, make sure to enter the room around the 19.4 to 19.7 mark. Obviously this works for a lot of people but also doesn't for a lot as well(myself included). I've tried everything, 32 step method, 20 sec, zoning. I've read comments. Tried every timing from 19 - 30 sec. I've timed myself with the YT videos. It just doesn't work for me. Maybe other factors are involved that I'm just not getting on my game but I've been at it for awhile and I never once got a chest. So congrats to everyone that got one. I guess I'm just one of the unlucky ones.

For adjusting the time, I used the zone switching method provided in the other video, but instead of 7th the chest appeared at the 3rd time instead. Then I waited for the child to run back and forth as described here before I opened the chest and obtained the Seitengrat. For reference, I am running a Japanese version of the game on a Japanese console (CUH-1200 series) and just returned from the Raithwall Tomb.

It takes a few attempts to find a route that gives only 32 steps but works a charm. I've had nothing but Seitengrats from the chest when I got it to spawn. Could not get the bow using the steps method nor the stopwatch method, so I observed the walking path Absoludacrous does on the deck and tried to mimic it. It worked best for me.

Wow. Amazing and thanks for sharing. got chest to spawn first time. That was pure luck. I'm sure I'm usually off by 3-4 steps after running into passengers. The bow is now the easy part. I can't thank you enough. I missed zodiac spear on original because didn't want to use guide and never dreamed opening chests early in game would prevent ultimate weapon from ever being obtained. Feel like got my revenge. LoL

Nochmal auch auf Deutsch es funktioniert wirklich beim Laden Analogstick direkt gedrückt halten und dann bei ca. 19,2 19,3 mit einem Timer die Tür öffnen dann raus nach oben den Jungen 4 mal in seine Ecke laufen lassen und dann wenn er vor seinem Vater steht X drücken und dann hat man die Waffen. Hab es 3 mal jetzt gemacht.

Michel Laube man muss den stick gedrückt halten also richtig reindrücken? bei mir funktioniert nämlich gar nichts 😅 keine methode geht. hab es nun 2 tage probiert für je 8-9 stunden....richtig frustrierend..... also man lädt den spielstand, dann muss man den stick drücken für 19 sekunden und dann rausgehen (?) oder muss man schon draußen sein vor der tür? hattest du den diamantenreif an? und ist es wichtig ob man einen gast charakter dabei hat weißt du das vielleicht? so ein richtiger explizit erklärter guide in deutsch von jemandem wäre echt nützlich :/

OK Vaan muss den Diamant Reif angelgt haben vorher. Ob mit Party mit Glieder oder nicht beides geht hab es getestet. In Rabanastre Westtor geht man zu Luftflugschleuse dann fliegt man nach Nalbina mit dem Standart Flug ich lass die kurze Sequenz immer laufen. Sobald man die Kontrolle hat über Vaan.geht man die Treppen nach rechts oben raus. Wenn man durch die Tür gegangen ist geht man über das Dashboard der Ps4 das Schliessen das ist wichtig!!!!. Dann lädt man den Auto Save achtung wichtg einen Timer bereit halten. Weil im Lade Screen solltest du den Analog Stick nach oben gedrückt halten. Weil du musst den Timer dann drücken wenn wann den ersten schritt macht. Dann muss man da rum laufen wie im Video,aber auch hier Wichtig keinen Berühren nicht stehen bleiben oder irgentwas. Du kannst wie im Video Schritte zählen also wenn er immer mit seinen linken Fuß aufkommt oder nicht oder eben wie ich es sage mit den Timer es machen dann musst du ca. bei 19,2 bis 20 sekunden durch die Tür sein. rechts sprich da wieder rein bevor du denn Autosave geladen hast. Dann wieder zurück die Treppen nach oben und im besten Fall ist jetzt eine Truhe da. All das was ich bis jetzt geschrieben hab kann man machen muss man nicht egal wie du die Unsichtbar Truhe Spawn lassen tust ob mit immer wieder rein und raus oder eben was man im Video sieht oder das was ich geschrieben habe. Es ist alles egal wichtig ist für schritt 1 die Truhe muss erstmal da sein. Der 2 Schritt ist sehr sehr wichtig du genau das machst mit den Jungen dann ist die Seitengard immer zu 100% drin. Also oben angekommen Truhe steht da der Junge läuft wie folgt ab. Wenn man nach oben kommt steht der Junge meist in der Mitte,geht in die Ecke,dann zu seinem Vater, in die Mitte,dann die Ecke wieder, dann wieder zu seinem Vater,dann in die Mitte,dann in die Ecke, wieder zum Vater, dann die Mitte,dann in die Ecke das ist das 4 mal wichtig merken wenn er jetzt zu seinem Vater geht und sobald er ruhig stehen bleibt X drücken. Wenn du alles richtig gemacht hast ist eine Seitengard drin. Der 2 Schritt ist mega wichtig den muss!!!!!! man machen ansonsten kommt die Waffe nie. Egal wie du die Truhe Spawn lässt auch selbst mit einem Turbo modus wenn du ständig rein raus gehst ist das egal. Man kann den Jungen auch im Turbo Modus 4 mal schneller in die Ecke laufen lassen wichtig ist nur dann wenn er 4 mal dann in der Ecke war und dann zu seinem Vater läuft und stehen bleibt nicht Vergessen dann X drücken. Sollte irgentwas nicht klappen in diesen Prozess immer den Auto Save Laden. Ich hoffe könnte hilfen bei Trophies.de habe ich das nochmal gepostet und da gibt auch nochmal Tipps von anderen. Da kann ich es gerne auch nochmal am Headset erklären.

God I have been trying almost every method in the comments for 4 hours trying to change it up and I haven't even gotten the chest once. I wish there was a detailed list like what PS4 it was and if digital or physical are important, there are so many things to factor that I'm having an impossible time

No need to do the 32 steps. Waiting is 20 or 30 seconds is fine. Make sure Vaan has a diamond armlet. After loading the autosave on the ship, start the timer and wait. You can move towards the door if you want to. I waited 30 seconds since thats what spawned the most amount of chests for me. once your timer hits 30, press x to go inside the ship. Go back out of the ship and check to see if the chest is there. Repeat about 7 times. If the chest is not there, restart the game. Once the chest is there, use the kid method mentioned in this video. You must open the chest at the precise time or else you wont get the bow. Check out nozomu10 "Seitengrat 100% Guaranteed Method With Better Clarification" video 20 minutes in. Good Luck

I've tried this for 5 hours, nothing makes the chest spawn, and the waiting for the kid doesn't guarantee the weapon when I can get it to spawn (and yes I'm wearing a diamond armlet)

Confirmed it working with the first time flyer cutscene and got the bow the first time i was able to get the chest using the footstep counting rather than a stopwatch

I used a slightly different method. I got on the ship from Rabanastre to Nalbina like normally and closed the game after it auto saved on the deck, but instead of walking around and counting the steps, I started my stop watch as soon as the screen lit up from black and I turned around so I was facing the door and could go in at any second. I let the timer get to about 20 seconds and then hit X to go inside the ship. After that, I just had to zone in and out a couple times and the chest appeared no problem. Once the chest appeared, I opened the chest after the 4th time of the boy going to the corner when he talked to his mom and I got the Seitengrat no problem. Good luck to everyone who tries this. It takes patience but it's legit.

It's just not spawning for me. I've tried the 32 steps method and the 20 second wait method and neither have spawned a chest for me and I've been at it for about 3 hours now. What am I doing wrong?

Just keep at it, none of the methods worked for me either. If it doesn't appear within 10 zones/before the disk inside the PS4 stops spinning, close the app and reload the quick save. I've gotten several chests to spawn in an hour and have gone 2 hours without spawning 1. I've gotten it to spawn anywhere between my 2nd and 8th zone. Makes me think my game doesn't start on the same frame after every reset. It's just luck.

Try somewhere between 19.2 and 19.7 seconds. I had a lot of luck (4 bows after about an hour of trying) with opening the door at 19.2 seconds after his left foot lands.

here is what I did, opened up door, stood still for 30 seconds, went back into the room, and out again and run up the stairs, then I waited for the boy to do 4 stops, then I got the bow. another guide told me steps isnt necessary, and it wasnt.
