During probably the lowest points of my life to date, at a time when I ended up living completely alone with a shitty low pay job, an empty fridge and nothing but a dusty PS2 to keep me company.. I unearthed my old copy of FFXII that I hadn't given much time up til then. With depression at an all time high and expectations at an all time low, I slipped that DVD into the console left this pains of this world and returned to magical realm of Evalice. Little did I know how amazing the adventure ahead of me would be, and how much they would change me. I sunk hundreds of hours into this game. It was my comfort, my escape, my friend, while I got back on my feet. I know that sounds pathetic and retarded, but this game really did help me through a hard time and for that reason it will always be amazing to me. It is a shame it doesn't get the credit it deserves!

the speed up feature is a godsend. feel like it should be an option in many JRPG's. the game, I believe, is a bit of an acquired taste at first - mostly because of the gambit and combat system - but if you can find yourself patient enough to experiment and learn, it definitely can become pretty damn fun. honorable mentions to the Job tree to choose your characters' class combinations and skills/abilities as you progress.

@Goremize7 жыл бұрын
No - People hated it for good reasons (I'm someone who loved it and have finished the game multiple times myself) But there were many reasons that turned people off the game, the main guy, Vaan, being boring and bland, the Gambit system existence, the general ease of the game (only made worse by the remastered version, the remastered version has made the game... so easy.. its like... so easy, there is not word for it but.. so stupidly easy now) I myself will probably only play the game at its hardest - the original version, because the job system just made the game too easy. However, for FF13 and up, this will not happen. People LOVED FFX and such, and below, and were vocal about it before remastered, very, FFXII has gotten the same people who loved the original out of the woodwork, but still has the same amount of hate as before - FFXIII doesn't have the fanbase as any game before, and FFXV even less
@spawncap90096 жыл бұрын
All these remasters always seem like they are at the level of graphics "I remember" from playing the game. Will get the game and play it and think this game doesn't look any different. Final Fantasy 12 is in my opinion the last true FF game. The MMOs were great but 13, the sequels and 15 were all, CLEARLY incomplete projects which focused to much on 1 aspect while ignoring another. You never got everything you expected from an FF game. 12 had the visuals, the cutscenes, the story, a TON of optional exploration, and an open endgame. every game since has sacrificed one of these foundation aspects due to over-budgeting and poor time management. The discovered an entire section of game missing when they explored 15's code. Left out because of poor planning. I think 12 will do well for rerelease but also invite stronger harsher critisism to Square's current works. Square, the company that said on record it would not want to remake 7 because that act would be an admission that the company was out of fresh ideas and desperate. Their words

Limited data plan. Can't download 50 GB for this title, or 100 GB for FFXV. People always complain how a developer is "losing money" because they don't make their game multi-platform. I think they are losing a LOT more sales with digital only games this size and all the people that cannot download file sizes like this due to slow and/or limited data internet connections. I work for a company that has 60 locations across 3 states. There are about 20 of those locations that no internet is available in those areas that would allow for this kind of gaming, and thus, all the people in those areas also would not be able to. Poor high speed internet availability is way more prevalent than most of you realize, in the U.S. of all places anyways.

Tidus was actually a great character for X. He was our point of contact for the world of Spira, as he was as clueless as we are in our first playthrough. 8 and 12 are my favorites in the series. I like underdogs I guess. They are the standout entries mechanically - and in 8's case thematically as well. 9 is probably my favorite "standard" entry, followed very closely by 10 whose story is phenomenal. For real, if you guys have been sleeping on those two darkhorses of the mainline series - they are absolute must plays all the way through. 8's story does some crazy things in the final acts especially - so play it even if the junction system is odd and easily gimmicked.

FFXII was my first FF game that I played as a conscious individual (ie not a vague memory of someone's brother playing). I loved the characters and understood their motives. What really give me that spark of wonder were how fleshed out the world seemed. I always sat back in awe when the game threw in the "welcome mat" cinematic of a new area/region. I was always more into world building so this game was a special treat. Overall I was over the moon when they announced the remastered version, and im not one bit disappointed 👌👌👌

Definitely one of my favorites in the series, and arguably my favorite, although 9 and 10 will always hold special places in my heart. I believe of all the Final Fantasies this one has the most Marketable story next to 7 and 9. I would love to write and direct a Trilogy of films based on this story. And yes I found Vaan to be a good character because he was so normal. I mean other than his fashion sense, he was just a dreamer who got caught up in larger world politics and I liked the perspective of seeing the story through his eyes as a viewer would if they had been transported into the story. This allowed for every other character in the party to have worth and each of them have value in their own way simply because Vaan is the POV character and the story is not being driven by him. Each character around Vaan is special. Basch the broken knight seeking to redeem himself, Fran the exile, Balthier the pirate captain and rogue, Penelo is his orphan best friend and love interest, and Ashe the Princess in exile that drives the plot. It all works so well because Vaan is the POV who happens to stumble into the conflict.

I enjoyed FF12 in 2006 but struggled by the midway point (Silakwood) With the Zodiac Age though, ive put 60hours into it and am now at the final act hunting the hidden espers and finishing the elite marks off before i complete the final mission. I feel like they made it easier in the remastered by giving us access to ALL the gambits in the shop straight away, instead of unlocking as the game goes on. I was able to set up Penelo as a white mage healer, with Basch as my tank, Vaan as a mace user, Fran as a archer, ashe as a second healer and Baltheir as a spear user. With gambits set , the game really played itself. I grinded on in Lhusu Mines for ages on the bridge against skeletons and unlocked their boards with ease. Then just stayed on top of items and rarely died. Where as the original, i was dying all the damn time. Maybe because im older and wiser to Gambits, or maybe they made it easier.

I'm playing this through for the first time right now on Switch, and I can understand why some people really do not like this one. This video critique is very fair I'd say. I'm enjoying it a great deal myself, and the story and characters are fantastic (Fran in particular) and it's well worth it despite the flaws. I do, however, think that the two biggest issues with the game are pretty valid: 1) It does sort of feel like the lead up to FF 13's hallway simulator design. There is an insane amount of running down endless hallways and open spaces. There's just far too much of it. The Switch version at least allows you to toggle on 2x or 4x speed, which makes traversing these wide open, empty spaces much less tedious. 2) The combat system is designed around programming your party members to automatically activate certain abilities at various thresholds. On paper this is nice, but in practice it sort of ends up with you setting up your perfect gambits to make your party members do exactly what you need, and then the combat can almost be put on auto pilot, taking a lot of the strategy out of it. Granted, the 2x and 4x speed boost can make the auto pilot combat much faster, but the issue is that then the whole game can essentially be played on super speed with your AI largely doing everything they need to do at just the right moments with very little input for you. This all makes for a game that feels like it largely doesn't need you to even be there. To some this might be fine, it gives it more of an RTS feel perhaps, designing your team perfectly so that it synergizes well and can mostly control itself. If that sounds good to you then you may take no issue with it. TLDR: I am greatly enjoying the game. The story and characters are fantastic. It does have a few very glaring flaws that hold it back from being truly perfect.

Thanks for this. I was debating getting it since it's on sale on the eshop
@KayderimGameplays5 жыл бұрын
Well yeah, it would be kinda hard to control 3 party members everytime you run into a monster with this system.. And the gambits will not be prepared for anything, as you only have 10 commands available, and some bosses throw all sort of shit and desease on your way, so unless you have all remedy upgrades, you will need to put some input there or you'll die. This game only removes that need to repeat itself like previous rpgs, instead of asking you to put commands every single fight, you'll just have to tell them what to do before the fight even begin. But you can always disable gambit and play the game without it just fine, at least with the character you're controlling.

I actually liked the old skill tree they had in the 2006 version, mainly because I could activate whatever skills I wanted without class restrictions. Which to me was a way to give each character an ability I wanted to give them which made every character unique to the play style I gave them. I am willing to try this updated version out, but to me that's why I enjoyed this ff more than the rest.

Its the gameplay that is so good. It reminds me of the best parts of mmo’s, minus dealing with annoying people online. They clearly were inspired by the early mmo’s with the exploration of large areas and fun, quick combat with a bunch of different systems that all work great together. Totally different than the painfully slow battles of previous ff games. I could just keep playing through this damn game over and over.

Final Fantasy 12 was my first FF game I played. I actually enjoyed the story and everything about it except for the grinding. I thought the grinding in particular was a bit too much. I'd see myself having to level up almost 10 levels or more just so I could get past one boss and find myself having to grind again just to be able to kill enemies in a certain area. I very much liked being able to customize the characters "finishing moves" I guess you could call it and chaining them together was awesome. Other than that I really enjoyed it and I'll be picking up this copy for some nostalgia. I also never finished the game so it's another reason why I'll be picking it up.

I love the "star-wars" feel of the game, with different civilizations, advanced technologies set in a way older looking scenario and the desert/tropical landscapes. The cities and dungeons are pretty unique and very detailed (I guess it had a lot of influence on FF XIII?) and I think the graphics aged really well. It has a more realistic plot that somehow makes it unique in the series. It may become my favorite Final Fantasy game.

Out of all the final fantasy's, I honestly think that 12 is one of the best. Yes, the main character is an annoying little shit that isn't even the MAIN character, the plot, the cinematography, and even the battle system are things that are so unique to this specific game. The closest one for cinematography that I've played is 15. For story, the few that tie or beat 12 would be 6,7, and 8. For gameplay I personally think 10 takes the cake. But, the battle system is something I think should have been used more. Especially with the way 15's and 13's battle system is. Anyways, I literally just got the new 12 and am downloading the update as we speak. Let me know what you think.

The boss battle music in FF12 is like no other. Completely epic. The orchestrated version of battle on the big bridge is just SO good. The world is just so rich, and what makes FF12 soooooo much better than FF15, is you can initiate multiple hunts at the same time. OMG I HATE how FF15 makes me go back to the poster after every hunt, so fucking ridiculous and time consuming. FF15 hunts are really boring, have no story behind them, are more or less the same. FF12's hunts have unique backstories, like the "carrot" that turned out to be a malboro, and how Montblanc posted a fake bounty to use you as bait. When I first played FF15 when it came out, I thought it was okay, but then FF12 remastered came out, and replaying FF12 made me realize just how good FF12 was and still is.
@jamesstone52496 жыл бұрын
I agree FF15 was absolute garbage story/music vice, the gameplay managed to make the game somewhat worth the $115 I paid to pre-order it. FF12 was just epic no other way to describe it I probably have invested close to 200 hours on playing and replaying the game. From the bounty hunter side stories to the politically corrupt and warmongering main story line which was full of adventure and some comedic relief I just couldn't get enough of it, there were also the countless weapons such as the zodiac spear, excalibur, and tursenol which made the game challenging due to how hard they were to acquire. Also acquiring all of the espers, reading about all the boss/monster lore and the endless amount of end game bosses separate from the main store line made the game worth cumming back to replay.

It's not obvious what job's are best for your characters as you don't typically want to follow normal rpg conventions where one would chose a mage class for Ashe because of her base Magic. I highly recommend doing some research as there's lots of info around since 2007's international release. White Mage Balthier, Samurai Ashe etc. Only thing this game really has going for it (imo) besides the cleaned up UI and per-rendered cutscenes is now you'll be able to chose a second job post-Belias. This is awesome, you'll finally have more reason to use Fran. And Tidus was way worse than Vaan, holy shit...
