Thanks for the support. I'm still making videos. I've just been taking my time while finding a new job and playing Persona 5 Royal, which I just finished and will be the next video on the channel.

yo, I thought I was getting a sequel to my first modern FF game (jumped from FF4 in childhood to hearing news for the first time ever in my teens of a newcoming FF game with Fabula Nova Crystalis), that would help answer some questions I had about the first. As a budding FF fan (and pretty much pre-teen in 2011), I was too dumb/impatient to know how find the story point waymarkers through FFXIII's Oerba/Gran-Pulse mid-game, so I had given up cuz I felt roadblocked. Way later, I went back for a nostalgic playthrough, and finally figured out where I was supposed to go, and that Pulse just had a lot of open-ended side stories. But I totally felt the same with the title of this video, cuz the concept of "things progress in real time" was so noveau to me my FOMO gamer couldn't handle it. I think my first playthrough, I overhunted everything, spammed chronostasis or whatever it was called, never had TP for anything else, rinse & repeat until moving on to the next biome. I don't think I had the patience (again) nor interest to continue the story, cuz with all the mistakes made early on, I also felt roadblocked by that difficulty spike. Oh wait, I am thinking about Lightning returns, lmao For FFXIII-2, I just chose one path and kept on it, and only went back when I realized I was at a dead-end (or forced "bad" endings). But I was less confused, because you can just keep going until you hit those dead-ends, and then branch off to a different path, all of which advance the plot. I did really love being able to see the same places in different lights. My favorite was Akademia 500. It's such a shame it was essentially scrapped because of plot. There's so much missed out exploration I wish I could've done in the vibrant areas that FFXII-2 expands upon from the predecessor.

13-2 feels like a soft reboot for 13 when it comes to it's world and lore, especially since they basically retcon the ending of the first game. It's definitely my favorite out of the 3 games, the gameplay (especially combat and the monster system) is so much fun and you get a better idea of what this world is like both on a macro and micro level which was one of my major criticisms of the first game. In the fist game, aside from the final big open area in the third half, each environment felt disconnected and it didn't help that there were so few towns to explore at your leisure. It left me with the feeling that I really didn't have any idea of what this world was like geographically, what cultures occupied it's different parts, or what the people living in it were really like. This was all pretty much completely fixed by 13-2, while I'm still not the biggest fan of the lore, I felt like I at least had a better idea of the smaller nuances that make the world feel more lived in.

There shouldn't have been too many real plot threads or concepts left to understand by the end of 13-2, especially if you beat the Lightning chapter and read through the datalog. The Lightning chapter covers what happened to her (and how pointless Serah's journey truly was) while the datalog explains basically everything else (much like in 13 where having these concepts explained within the plot would have been hard) aside from the state of the world after the ending and what the dark Yuel's were. The story for 13-2 also wasn't written with 3 sequels in mind but just one sequel, Lightning Returns. By or before 2010 Versus XII had already been internally changed within SE from being a spin off to a main title, with the removal of the 13 series mythos and the writers reworking it to try and be its own thing. Type-0's story was written to fall in line with 13-2 and 13-3, with Type-0 2 going to be its own thing on how the world changed due to the ending of Type-0 cutting off influence from the gods of the 13 series.

1.) If a story has concepts that too hard to explain within a 30-hour main story. You need to rewrite your story or simplify your concepts. 2.) The decision to transform XIII Versus into FF15 didn’t happen inside Square Enix until 2012 (if you have a source I haven't seen please link it). Meaning that FF 13-2 was still in line with Versus 13. 3.) The data logs in FF13 enhance the story not explain it like in FF 13-2. For example, I understood what a Fal' cie, La'cie, and other concepts were. The reason why the data logs work in FF13 explaining Barthandelus' plan is that he's a god in his own right and is infinitely smarter than humans. We should be confused because he's been planning things down to the smallest detail for 700 years.
