There is a bit about the retainers that he forgot to mention; The Retainers can be literally any class/job that you can be, but it will require them to be the same level as you needed to be to be that job. For example, your retainer needs to be at lvl 70 with *any* combat job before it can become a Reaper, or lvl 50 to be a Samurai. At least that’s what I’ve been gathering from looking it up. I recently reset my lvl 90 Dragoon Retainer since I don’t really like that job (it’s far too busy to use for my liking), and I needed to look all this up again with how long it’s been.

@KHMDarkness A retainers job level can only match your current level in that job. And yes, each job requiring a job stone, can be unlocked at the same level it's unlockable by your own character. Your character has to have the job first though. And you can only go from a base class to a job. If you don't like the job choice, you need to fully reset again.

Thanks for the video! Just finished post Stormblood and started my member. Couldn't figure out why I had no option to send my retainer out on a venture. The quest was right there in front of me lol. Great guide though, thanks for clearly explaining everything.

Wait so if you chose a class you can never change it for your retainer for example roque ninja is what my character is so my retainer is locked to that?

You're not locked, you can reset it to level 1 and choose a new class. But you are locked to it being a combat job. You can switch to gatherer

The same way you get your own. Either craft it, or buy it and just equip to them

When you unlock glamour for yourself, but it can be fiddly, you need to do it at an Inn, or have the gear on the retainer

It's great for two reasons imo. Once you put them to work at max lvl, you begin to see how passive crafts can become so you can spend more time grinding other moneymakers like bicolors and treasure maps. Second, the required interaction with retainers to sell on the market board directly reduces competition (because some players cba), and having more means you can sell to multiple markets e.g., furnishings, dyes, airship/sub parts and materia. Idk what I would do without my retainers tbh

@@coryp6868 I could go with a proper bank that doesn't force me to go through multiple time wasting dialogue every single time I want to do something. Retainers are just horrendous and the exact opposite of quality of life. As well as being yet another subscription in a paid game that has a base subscription, for some awful reason.

You don't assign them a gathering job. When you hire your retainer, you asked if you want a battle retainer or gather retainer. You choose when you are first hiring them

You can reroll your retainer's class. You lose all progress on the class your retainer currently is.

A lot of people would highly disagree. More retainers increases the amount of items you can sell on the market board at any given time as well as the amount of storage space you have. Would I pay extra? Probably not though.
