I prefer the concept from 2006 over 2016. It looked more interesting, Noctis especially. I don't like the gameplay of either game, but the first version's plot was more intriguing.

They took out a lot of connections to XIII (seems they're abandoning Fabula Nova Crystallis in everything but name), but maintained the same story. I feel that the Versus XIII footage was essentially mid or late game plot. The road trip is basically over and the war with Niflheim is more open. Noctis and the others are already in Lucis and the shit's clearly hit the fan. Noctis is also more solemn, quiet, and focused, I'd even say angry. He's not the kid we're seeing in the new trailers (which would logically show early game stuff to prevent spoilers), and this would actually fit the overall father and son theme. We already know that Regis started off being arrogant and cocky, only to become the stoic king as he grew older, and if the VsXIII footage is late-game story, then Noctis would be mirroring this character arc. A lighter tone early on in the game would also make for a great contrast if, for example, Regis ends up dying and shit gets real, and VsXIII's atmosphere is definitely giving off a "shit gets real" vibe.

+Xavier El Memes This is because Square did what they did with Final Fantasy XIV. That MMO was an awful mess for about a year, then Square decided to listen to feedback and work on fixing problems that were listed by the user base. This resulted in A Realm Reborn, which is considered very good as far as MMOs go. The Duscae demo that came with Type-0 also had its bad points when it came to combat (though, ironically, it was extremely similar to what I'm seeing in VsXIII) and the director made sure to listen to the complaints and come up with something smoother. The Platinum demo showed that change, and disappointing as it was not to see Noctis fight alongside the other guys, it was still a vast improvement over Duscae's wobbly and unfocused system. Smooth, simple, concise, varied thanks to spells and weapon switching, while still challenging and timing-based. It's just better. And based on more modern trailers, it's looking like the story's gonna come to the points shown in VsXIII no matter what. Everything's pointing to Lucis falling, at least for a time, Regis getting overthrown or even dying, Noctis having to reclaim that throne and likely getting more mature and solemn on the way. The gameplay won't be identical to the VsXIII trailers, but the story itself still looks like it's very intact, even identical to what we were going to get ten years ago.

Tabata said a lot of the core story has remained very close to what was originally planned. I imagine the similarities will become more noticeable as the story progresses and becomes more focused. There's a point in the game where it shifts. In the beginning the story and focus is more about the the crew. It's open with a focus on side quests and activities but becomes more focused on the main story later. The tone is said to shift as well. Of course this is going by what they have said, they really haven't shown much of anything aside from the earliest hours.

I dunno, I kinda prefer 2016, I like stand alone games, no matter how God versus was gonna be, in my mind it would have always been dragged down due to being based off of 13 I just wish 15 was fully finished, that all the dlc wasn't dlc and was added from the get-go, and that the second half was explained better But to me, versus looked cool, but I prefer and I'm happy with 15

Caleb Meyerrr I think so. FFXV is a solid game, and there would be a few similarities on how you play it (the active combat is one I think of). This game IMO is a lot more detailed and in depth than KH games have been, but that to me doesn't take away from either game/series. I'm a fan of both series and I say go for it, I doubt you will be disappointed. plus who knows, maybe a ffxv character will make a cameo in kh3.

So the original trailer is way better than the current one, with the original director leaving to work on Kingdom Hearts 3 so that is probably why the current version doesn't seem to retain the dark gritty feeling . Honestly if they got rid of the dark gritty feel they were going for I am going to so disappointed. The director of the game said that ff 15 is suppose to be their "darkest ff ever" so I don't know, we can always hope the devs don't screw over the fans :/

Tetsuya Nomura actually wanted to make the game into a musical since 2012. Of course it's going to take a dark turn somewhere down the line. Every Final Fantasy, best to worst, has taken a dark turn to give the final boss more impact. Aerith's death in VII, the near death (or actual death if you believe the theories) of Squall in VIII, the price of being a Summoner in X, Kefka's takeover in VI. There were even dark moments as far back as FFII, when one of your guest members had to die in order to save the party. The confirmed story so far is about a widespread military coup by a massive dictatorship. You are absolutely going to see a kingdom fall before its king's very eyes, while all he can do is just stand there and watch. That's pretty tragic from where I'm sitting.

I love this series. I remember when I first heard about Versus 13 and when they first released these trailers, the graphics were amazing compared to others of its time. Then the delay announcements kept coming out. I started to lose hope for this. But now that it is coming out this year, and seeing both versions being compared back-to-back, with the obvious boost in graphics and content, I'm happy they decided to wait so long to release this game. Kingsglaive was an awesome movie also. Can't wait for the FFVII remake too. Thanks for sharing.

Am I the only one who misses Stella? So bummed I wasn't able to pre-order XV. I'll be able to get it next week when I'm paid though. I just find all the pre-order exclusives very annoying. Well it's defiantly apparent this game has gone under major changes throughout it's never ending development cycle. I just hope it pays off in the end, I'm going to be optimistic about it and say that it will. I'm going to assume there's going to be a pretty big surprise in the story and the game could go for a much darker tone, but who knows.

I was so excited about FF versus XIII! It could be PS3's masterpiece which could make PS3 the best console ever cuz of this game. You know Open World games are very promising and they are super rare and it takes more than 5 years to make one. I can say FFvsXIII is better than anything but FFXV was the biggest failure I wasn't expecting. I am very disappointed that PS3 doesn't have such a game! And I am very disappointed that this could be my first truly favourite game but they failed.
