I can't get this to work on RetroPie. Can anyone point me in the right direction. Would love to put it on my arcade cab

All I know is this requires a modified version of MAME, so if you're using the regular version, it won't work. That said, I know nothing about RetroPie specifically, so I'll leave this comment pinned for now and hopefully someone else can help you out.

The new energy bars placement is top notch! well done. It really feels like a complete game now. I'd probably just ditch the timer altogether though, becasue I've never once paid attention to them when playing these sort of games, and they were only there as ways to make sure that more coins were put in the machines and to ensure the game was reset if a player walked away mid play.

I had a really crazy dream last night featuring this 3 Player Final Fight only hours after I heard about it. Hard to get into specifics, but I was seeing it as if I was playing the game itself and it was balls-to-the-wall. Lots of additional enemies, stages rearranged and really fleshed out, and lots of new brutal shit like having to fist fight a TANK CARRIER and having heroes and enemies getting instant-killed by getting hit by subway trains that made you feel sorry for everyone in that mess in general. And it's not the first holy-shit! dream of Final Fight I've had within 4 months. It's becoming a recurring dream thing and I don't know why.

I can't state this as fact, but this is a possible answer I found on another website. Q] Why does Guy beat up Cody in the ending? A] Contrary to popular belief, Guy did not beat down his friend because he was jealous that he got the girl. The actual reason is, however, is that Guy was so shocked that Cody didn't stop when Jessica called his name -the entire point of them going on this quest was to save her, so Cody could at least talk to her afterwards. So Guy knocked down Cody to make him stop, letting Jessica catch up with him. Also, Guy wouldn't be jealous as it's revealed in Final Fight 2 that he has a girl of his own anyway.

Street Fighter '89, not necessarily a sequel but an offshoot. And they realised before release they wanted to make a real sequel so using the same name seemed like a mistake.

@@arronmunroe I played that one recently and it seems to be OK; they just need to fix up the enemy AI on 2-player mode... But otherwise, it's still a HUGE improvement over the original 1991 SNES release tho. They restored ALOT of missing shit and the new colors look VERY nice. I think they doubled the cart size from 8 to 16 megs as a direct result of all the hacks and modifications to this game. No fucking way we could've had all this extra shit back in 1991 unless we payed 200 bucks per cartridge like on the Neo Geo!

Controversial opinion: Final Fight One on GBA plays better. Been playing both back to back on my phone (using a controller) and One is faster and more responsive. I LOVE the arcade version, I remember seeing it for the first time in Heathrow airport when I was 7 or 8 and having my mind blown. But I prefer playing Final Fight One these days, despite the half-assed use of SNES assets. The gameplay is great. And the sound effects don't keep cutting out like in the original. They even restored the use of sound effects that were present in the sound test but not heard in game.

Final Fight One is what the SNES version really should've been back in 1991... Seeing how home console releases usually include additional modes and content; it would've made perfect sense to release THAT version instead, but they failed to do so due to hardware limitations + cartridge manufacturing costs back then and just pure lazy-ass corner-cutting. If those weren't really the deciding factors back then, I really do believe that they could've at least included all 3 selectable characters + 2-player support on the original SNES version.

The rom hack that makes the game 3p is used with a modified version of MAME that acts as if there are 3 joysticks. That said, I think this actually can be played on real hardware if you have the right type of cabinet with 3 joysticks.

I can imagine that Andore was renamed to Hugo because Capcom didn't have the rights to the likeness of Andre the Giant. Kinda connected the dots after seeing Hugo in the Street Fighter series. A lot of the Final Fight characters migrated over to Street Fighter, it seems... Guy, Cody, Hugo, Poison, Rolento, Abigail... but why not Haggar? Too busy kickin' ass in Marvel vs Capcom?
