Such a good series. Thankyou again for it. The tension when you're fighting the biters and clearing their bases is real. It's a bit weird though, as I'm watching this series with the indestructible biter bases one, so was screaming at the screen "what are you doing! oh wait".

Yeah in retrospect the 2 series are a bit confusing to keep apart (I'm even struggling with it myself lol), one with 100% immune nests but normal biters, and this one with near 100% immune biters but normal nests lol

The way I view challenge speedruns is that I can dilly-dally as much as I want until there's 4h left and then I will start worrying about the time, because no matter how much time I have wasted it is always possible to win within 4h and hopefully I have at least managed to beat or compensated for the "challenge" part by then. Looking at the time left at the end of this episode this is that time.

I was in the process of getting sick during recording this, which probably explains it. (additionally, I do record the voice track seperately so I can split it off from the gameplay audio and re-align it between the later added music tracks and for "normal voice during sped-up footage" thing)

Wait, all achievements? But didn't you fail "There is no spoon"? Or is it an exeption for being too hard to complete it?

I had hope for it, but already early on it quickly became apparant it's not really possible, there's just too much to do before building a base just to survive /dela with enemy expansion, and production is too slow as it's limited by pollution cloud size. I have good hopes for the 15h achievement though

Could you make a series where "no (living) trees were harmed in the process"? Where no pollution will be absorbed by "damaging" the trees? That would require good planning, small buffers and limiting pollution... what would you say about the challenge?

TBH it'd probably be very annoying (and not very entrtaining to watch) instead of challenging, as ultra-slow is the only way to go. I'd probably just turn off trees completely to avoid damaging them hehehe

Great episode! Love the editing. I wonder about defender bots, would they be useful in this scenario? They require a certain number of magazines to craft, yet can shoot indefinitely during their lifetime. Would it be worth it to invest in them? Plus, they can move around. But I guess the main drawback is having to research follower robot count at least 3 times to take on behemoths. BTW, now that I think about it, I haven't really seen anyone use the sophisticated late-game combat robotics. I guess not even myself. I should boot up Factorio, again.

Defenders do the same bullet damage as the machine gun (so less than the behemoths armor value), they could distract some spitters/worms by drawing in fire, but it's up to debate whether the more unpredictable projectiles are a good or a bad thing.

I wonder if poison grenades would serve you better for clearing out the biters (although I don't think they affect nests themselves)?

Poison is great for small/medium and even big biters to a degree. But behemoths just have too many hitpoints to be significantly affected, and posion damage is not upgradable. It indeed does not affect nests, but it does kill worms, so later on, on large nests, I may use it as a first strike on the worms to soften up the field.

A more efficient way to clear nests is to kite the biters in a car and focus down the spawners. Then you can lure them into turrets or just really far away and outrun them. Plan your escape route and watch out for trees and rocks.

It's not required to remove the "expansion circles", but this technique ain't a precision operation, also last episode proves I have a tendency to get sniped if I leave them be lol

One more tactic i found to help in the early game is to lay down ~10 turrets with a smattering of ammo, just to get the biter's attention, then running in yourself with ~4 turrets to take out the bases. the plan is: you're not planning on surviving! you can simply respawn once the dirty deed of destroying the nests is done. I found homeless biters will attack anything in range, then bugger off to a nearby nest. helps for smaller biter bases like expansions.

as a silly aside, you always respawn with a pistol and 10 ammo, meaning they're the only other infinite resource besides oil and water :^)

I think so, my other current series (with indestructible biter nests/worms) is kinda like that, but with standard deathworld biter settings instead of on peaceful mode
