Megadrive is the most interesting retro platform now. I always felt a bit cheated that it didn't get the best licenses back in the day. No TMNT but it went to NES. No Robocop, no Shadow Warriors, no Splatterhouse port. It was all because Nintendo had those companies signed-up. Well, I may get them belatedly. If I knew how to code, I'd be making them myself.

I realize there's a million ways to play Final Fight, but just having it run on stock Genesis hardware is thrilling. Vindicating for an old veteran of the console wars. This is the riposte to a crappy, undercooked Genesis version of an arcade hit like Sunset Riders or Smash TV or Mortal Kombat. THIS is what the Genesis can do, mofos.

If you play in software emulation can you disable the sprite limit per line to fix the sprite flicker? There's a great rom hack called Final Fight 2 Readjusted on the SNES that increases the enemies on screen. You can do the sprite limit emulation hack and the game plays like I am sure the devs intended but were hampered by the hardware. The original game is far too easy with so few enemies. With the hack you have to use tactics like the throw for crowd control, which is a core mechanic of the original game.

@kenallen821310 ай бұрын

You probably won't believe me but they do this often intentionally. Companies mangle their games as rituals that make certain Gematria codes. Art Of Fighting has bad controls for a ritual. Street Fighter (1987) plays horrible intentionally, the Dreamcast controller was always meant to be bad. Why would they do that? Anybody in big business is following a script and must do dark rituals and play the game.

There's no similarities between the two in play here. Normally, it would have been the 68k if you took the original source and hacked it to run on the MD (with all the hardware interface routines changed to match MD). But the code is written entirely from scratch, in C, and the sprite systems between the MD and the arcade are nothing alike (as well as everything else about the graphic systems between the two). This was made from ground up, with care... which is what means it most impressive. The color usage.. wow - it just kills the original SegaCD port. Love it!

The SNES and MD will always trade blows re conversions like this. The SNES with SA-1 co processor would be able to push a higher frame rate than stock, and with MSU-1 have CD quality audio, but the Sprite-tile-display limits wouldn't get to CPS fidelity.

@@VideoGameEsoterica Well I listed the available support hardware the SNES has as the console out of the two that could be closer to the CPS in everything but sprite-tile resolution, the MD being able to utilize only the SEGA VDP cart chip for better fps.

@@laytaylor Resolution is the thing with SNES. It has to stretch the graphics to get to a 4:3 ratio. It's natural play area is square shaped. You could make the graphics skinny so that when you stretch them they look right but hardly anybody ever did that. Chrono Trigger is an example.

Sega fanboy programmers are a bit embarassing. Its like they’re jumping up and down saying “see our consoles could do this” like the console wars are still in the balance. Sega is dead. accept it! There is no point in a port of Final Fight to the MD when the arcade version is available on any number of platforms now and porting playstation games to Saturn is again utterly pointless. Some fans have even done tech demos of stuff like F Zero and Starfox to MD and i really dont get it. they look terrible and prove nothing.
