That gold one at 15:23, might just be the same tetra, but infected with a harmless parasite that causes the fish to produce more guanine. Same parasite responsible for the brilliance on gold tetras. It's not contagious, but it does add a cool uniqueness to a fish. I've seen Slender Tetras infected with it too. They get a gold luster they don't usually have.

I believe one of the stow-aways in your Moenkhausia colletti, Colletti tetra aquarium with the black spot on the tail may be a Moenkhausia ceros, Ceros tetra. Great video!! Amazing selection! Thanks!!

The other “contaminate” you pointed out with the glowing eyes and bright head and striping could be an Aphyocharax erythrurus, flame-tailed tetra. Great video! Thanks!!

Yeah, I understand about mislabeled juveniles. I bought a tiny “red shoulder green severum” at my lfs. A year and a half later, there’s no red anywhere on him. I’m keeping him, but I’m pretty disappointed.

..The Q11 Apisto is the Apistogramma atahualpa(the last of the Inka-Kings) aka The Sunset-Apisto.. and yes, you have a large female (black pelvic fins)+ a young male.. Soon to be a perfect breeding pair from what I can see in their behaviours.. :)

Great tour! A bit bare tanks for my taste but I suppose that's the way to go for breeding and easier observation. A bit interested in which type of wood you are using in, for example, the L397s tank. Can't find it anymore(long video) but I think the apistogramma that is towards the end with silvery fin might be "Atahualpa"(atleast they do look like ones my friend keep). Good luck with the move :)

Bravo, what a nice selection of fish. Say, I have a question regarding antibiotic treatment and sponge filters. I assume any antibiotic that one is treating fish will also upset the microbial ecosystem - both gram positive and gram negative bacteria. What are your thoughts? I invite others to comment as well. Greetings from just down the road in Rapid City.

Hey Dan, you seem to know heaps. Do you know much about Krobia, specifically what I was told are "Krobia Oyapok". I can't find any info about them and they're really shy, so I'm wondering if there's any massive changes to be made for them specifically that I should know about. Cant find any info on their care and neither footage that matches up to how mine look.

I tried buying 3 amazon puffers from another source a while back. They glass surf non stop. They don't seem happy in aquariums. It seems like a common problem. I hope people stop buying these fish for the home aquarium or figure out how to reliably get them happy. Perhaps I should have gotten larger numbers but others with 6-7 seem to be reporting the same problem with glass surfing. It's a real bummer.
@DansFish2 жыл бұрын
Yes, glass surfing is a puzzle. I've found that once they settle in, a lot of hardscape for them to explore helps prevent glass surfing. Tankmates seem to help as well...peaceful community species. I also find that having floating plants over a section of the water surface seems to help. I don't know exactly what the secret is, but I've seen tanks that do achieve a state where the puffers really do seem to enjoy their lives in the aquarium. I think the thing to do is play with variables until the tank is tuned to them...they will tell you when that happens.
