Welcome to Day 8 of our potato harvest, and it's been quite the journey so far! In today's video, we're kicking things off with a bit of flagpole drama - this is the third time we've had to replace it! After some quick repairs, we raise the flag once again and dive back into the field. It's a dry and dusty one out there, making for some challenging conditions, but we're pressing on to keep the harvest moving.
But the field isn't the only place where things are happening. Today, we've got a big task ahead of us as we prepare to move from one potato cellar to another. You'll get an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at how we set up these massive cellars to handle the millions of pounds of potatoes we're stacking. From shifting equipment to making sure everything is running smoothly, we've got a lot on our plate today, but it's all part of keeping the operation running like clockwork.
Join us for a packed day of work, from flag repairs to cellar setups, and see what it takes to keep this harvest going strong!

Your channel has quickly become one of my favorite AG destinations on YT. You guys are down to earth and very articulate with the how it works and why content. I'm totally fascinated by this. I was a futures trader on the Chicago Board of Trade for 25 plus years. I traded Beans, Corn, and Wheat. My dad was a bean trader. My whole life I always wanted to by my own farm, but I waited too long and they became too expensive. I now live that dream through a few select channels.Thanks for all the great content guys, I sincerely appreciate it. All the best for a continued safe and bountiful harvest. Cheers from 70 miles west of Chicago. Great to Ole Glory back up on the harvester.

Awesome I’m glad I’m making content that you enjoy. I always wonder if it’s good enough to put on KZbin it’s comments like yours that make me want to keep doing it. I have also been a day trader since 2011 I do it on the side almost made a career out of it but decided to keep farming.

@@RockyMountainFarmer Ahhh, that's interesting. FWIW, I think you made a great choice. The ups and downs in day trading, especially with the insane moves we see these days are kinda crazy. You can go from hero to zero and back again in one trading session now. LOL Take care.

Suggestions for additional views: 1) Set your GoPro up on a tripod with the two unloading collectors in view. Then let it run all day in time-lapse mode. 2) Use a magnet mount and set up the GoPro so the piler and telescoping conveyer are in view. Record all day in time-lapse mode. (You will want to use a safety strap on the GoPro in case the magnet mount comes loose.)

We did a piler one but that other one would be cool. It’s too bad we are done with harvest but maybe next year.

Hi Tehren, I'm proud to say I've been growing spuds for McCains here in Australia for the last 30-odd yrs & we have a very similar set up as you guys, but much smaller. In Aust. we don't have the luxury of so much good land as you have been blessed with. We are mainly poor soils conditions that will grow spuds if
@RockyMountainFarmer
@RockyMountainFarmer Ай бұрын
That’s awesome that you are able to grow potatoes. I know here in Idaho our soil is really good because of all the volcanic ash in the soil and the potatoes.

Oh Hell, I miss-typed & didn't finish my Post.....You keep up the fert. However, there are still lots of smaller good soils but not large areas. Anyway, what I would like from you, if you could manage it, is to start with the Day, EG: Monday of day 7 of harvest. for all the other guys watching overseas in different time zones. Love ur Channel

Use a flag pole like they use on small vehicles in surface mines. They have a spring on the bottom so you can fold them down

c if u can find an antana with the coil on the bottom so it will absorb the shock of the machine so it will just whip around with the vibration of the equipment

You need to develop a self leveling arm like a self leveling bucket on a tractor. Then it will fold down with the boom of a ram of it's own.

There's already a company that builds heavy duty flag poles that go in a receiver hitch on a pickup you could get one of those and bolt a receiver up there they make small ones for flush mount

@RockyMountainFarmer
@RockyMountainFarmer Ай бұрын
We don’t lose too many maybe one percent. my guess is less than one percent. maybe one sack per acre gets lost. We’ve had a guy walk through the field from one of the field to the other with a 5 gallon bucket and was not able to fill his bucket. We don’t leave very many.

It just helps to not carry the potatoes over the back of the machines because the leaves will hold the potatoes from dropping through

Get one of the poles used in slalom ski racing. They have a flexible hinge point near the base, which is designed to bend over when the skier hits the pole and then bounce back.
