Today we are creating the final cement scenery for the Garden Railroad's north end. We have been working in this area for three years, and this area is FINISHED!
The area is finished from the tunnel portal into Garagemahal to the bottom of the grade at Phantom Curve. There is a section at the west end for FUTURE EXPANSION! We are dreaming of possibilities! A mill? A bluff? A bluff with a mill? A tunnel??? Next year perhaps..
We are now heading back to Grapevine Village to add scenery, street lights, wood sidewalks, and platforms. And other fun ideas as inspiration hits??
The BIG PROJECT is finishing the outside part of the railroad!! The south end. As of now, there is no benchwork, noting. the tracks end at the south end. There will be a wye for turning at least a large locomotive, perhaps even a short train? But the track plan is made, and other than adjustments to the plan, we will be building the final benchwork and laying the final 100 feet of track on the wye!

To me, that really does look natural, and I really like the effects of what you're doing with the water down house paint. Thanks for sharing.

The natural erosion from the rain storm looks more real than anything you could do with a brush or trowel. Looks great! +1

Amazing looking Railroad! I wanted to build an outdoor RR but my health said nah baby nah. So I sold the Outdoor trains. So I am really enjoying watching your videos! I’ll stick with the S Scale, O Scale and N scale layouts. Thanks for sharing! Thank goodness we both have wives who love our hobby as much as us! God Bless you both! Cbtrainnut on KZbin! Chris

Us too! I'm debating the size... IF we cut a hole in the Tough Shed (with a dog door) I can pull a train that's about 6 feet long into the shed. And then I need a tail track that's that long to use it that way, and with 5 feet of curve, and 12" of benchwork at the base of the wye, That puts the tail track 12 feet south into the yard. Do we really want to do that? The shed comes out about 8 feet. So the tail track (two at this point cause IF I do this I wanna be able to park two trains there for photos and stuff) ANYWAY so about 4 to 5 feet out into the yard. Hum.... Or just 3 feet of tail track so I can turn a locomotive or bus only... HUM. What do you think?

I just tried your kitty litter ballast so far I like it my RR is on the ground so I used tar paper under the track and the litter will see how it holds up in our Iowa weather, keep the great videos coming.

Fantastic instructional video, Dale! After it's all done, will you open up your display and shop to the modeling clubs of other Rail fans in the near future?

I’m curious as to why you don’t appear to have an installed any drainage on the layout. The clip of the rainy maelstrom shows lots of standing water. Not necessarily a problem when the temp is above freezing, but by winter, wouldn’t freezing water potentially damage the track? Some strategically drilled holes, perhaps hidden by boulders or bushes, might work. Just an idea. Always enjoy watch your and Karen’s videos. 👍🏻

Yup. I have Thompson's. But I hate the shiny finish. But I still use it, but when it fails I scale it erosion and embrace it.
