Thanks for sharing Blair, I have to say watching this brought tears to my eyes, it was a sad day for Arbroath. Now these brave volunteer crewmen have put to sea in a tiny inflatable, with a significant increase of risk to their personal safety. 😢 Shame!

i was a crew member in 1993 we sailed her up from Poole, my son was one of the crew that sailed her out of Arbroath for good. A very sad day!

Great turn out to see yer last launch. Has she been replaced by a newer lifeboat or is the station being stood down??

Replaced with a Atlantic 85 and retaining the D Class

Is the old one going down to Dover to help with the Contracted work with The Coastguard and Border Force ?

Upgrade the station first not the boat, slip launching is all about speed no time wasted, it's pretty pointless having a slip launch if you have to do a stop as soon as you hit the water then do a starboard turn before you go into the harbor wall 40 meters on the other side

As former crew it makes very little difference to the call out time. There are many stations where the boats have to take a few turns and reverse to get out of their moorings

@@patgeorge1 oh no don't get me wrong I've seen first hand the skill of a well skilled skipper/coxswain, my dad was a skipper for 30 years i can just see it being a challenge in rough seas and bad weather but thats what you train for, but imo it would make sence to upgrade the slip to minimise the risk for the safety of the crew and the ones that need a rescue where speed matters
