Really enjoy your content Brad. I’m new to your channel so have the benefit of working though your video history. I’m quite amazed at how willing you all are at sharing your knowledge with the KZbin community. I’m in the UK and run a Softail Deluxe and Dyna Switchback, your content helps me look after them……………thank you very much.

We don't need no stinking instructions, we have Brad the Wizard! Hey Brad, one little nifty tool you might want to look into is a DinoLite. It is a handheld microscope with lights. You can hook it up to a computer to get a live digital view of things. It can take pictures and video as well...super crisp video with the onboard focus dial. I use it quite a bit when I examine medical equipment during design troubleshooting and testing in the lab.

Instead of using a marker, I use a couple pieces of masking tape and after I put it back in the same spot as the customer had it, I just peel it off and throw it away. Enjoy your videos you’re one of the best I’ve seen!

One thing I really love in your video is that it's real life! You are getting the same nightmare as newbie with f...... head screws. In other videos you won't see such thing and yet it's a part of mechanic.

Jims USA makes 767 (2006 to preset 6-speed) and 768 (1980-2006 5-speed) Transmission Case Shifter Shaft Seal Installer Tool insure seal is inserted to the proper position.
@stuart12703 жыл бұрын
The screw above the shifter shaft it to align the shifter pawl . It is done in third gear and you are supposed to center the shifter pawl
@HarleyDavidsonWizard3 жыл бұрын
That's only on early 5 speeds because the pin ls offset. On 6 speeds the centering pin is in the center so theres no adjustment.
@mattfazenbaker5209 Жыл бұрын
Brad, I just got done doing this on a 2011 rg 103 and the two springs are not centered at all. The rear spring arm ( towards the rear wheel ) is almost half way in the center hole for the centering bolt. I can down shift fine, its the up shifting im having issues with. I can shift up but then when the pawl returns to shift to the next gear it dont return all the way not letting the upper arm drop down on the shift drum unless i help it ( moving the shift linkage a little forward ). Is there a chance I got sent the wrong shifter pawl?

Excellent. Going to order one of the Jim's tool just in case. Also going to look at the temp sensor on my 14 Ltd. I cleaned and replaced the coolant when I did the M8 water pump upgrade. Did the air bleed the old fashioned way. Maybe some day will get a proper bleeder.

The coolant bleeder tools makes the job go a little faster. Its really saves a ton of time using it on your car!! Thanks for the view and comment!!

FYI. On 2004 FLHRSI Twin Cam88 5-Speed the Shifter Pawl Assembly cannot be removed as easily. The transmission has to be removed out the Side Door to make clearance from the drive gears. However the shift drum assembly can be removed easily without further disassembly. For the Bike in the Video, it appears further disassembly is required to gain access to the shift drum, however access to the Shifter Pawl is easier.

My Derbey cover bolts where stuck also. Thought I a as gonna break them off. Tried with my hand impact like your but no matter how long I tried they wjere stuck. Someone put red locktite on them. Got my little 1/4 impact with the 3/8 adapter and thought it would round my torx bit out or break something but it zipped them all right out.

Brad lets put this in context; typically less than 5000 miles and you need to go through this. No wonder the moco is going under.

Just rewatched this whole series again Brad, very good. Do you disconnect the battery when you work on the primary and what holds the bike on that column lift?
@HarleyDavidsonWizard Жыл бұрын
Personally I normally don't disconnect the battery during a primary service as I've done so many that I'm conformable and know how to angle my tools just right ect. But for the normal at home person, I'd recomed disconnecting battery. Your better of safe than sorry. I secure the front wheel to the wheel chock of the hoist with a ratchet strap. When I'm away the the hoist I put a flat jack under the back portion of the frame, incase the tires go flat or something but with the front tire straped and flat jack under the bike, it's solid.

I have no preference on redline. But the bikes that I see with 100k miles have always used HD so that's the one I recommend. Thanks for the comment!

I recently had to replace the main bearing (and all the others) on my 2010 Dyna Trans and am glad I didn't have to alter/change the shifter mechanism as it looks to be rather tricky - I have not watched the video of it's removal yet. The Covid lockdown here in England has me watching all your videos as they are much better than TV ! When I did the Trans rebuild, I noted that the new main bearing was a single row whereas the original was twin row. It only failed after 60k miles so it was OK I suppose - what finally killed it off was my engine upgrade (over 127bhp and 122 torque). I hope this new bearing holds up, have you had any failures come to you attention yet ? I see they are using the single row bearing in M8's but I have bought a Baker twin taper roller conversion kit just in case it fails again - I didn't do my research before I ordered parts and saw the Baker part which is not cheap ..... I really don't want to have to do it all again but ....
@HarleyDavidsonWizard4 жыл бұрын
I've used the baker twin tapered bearing in a Baker Grudge box and its a beefy setup for sure. The original double role main drive gear bearing you speak up is prone to material buildup on the outer portion of the bearing and then the race becomes pitted and then the ball bearings become pitted and then the bearing setup looses the original designed preload and the bearing fails. Its a fairly common occurrence. In my opinion I think metal material that floats around in the trans fluid settles on the race of the outside main drive gear bearing and the bearing spins and spins in it creating the damage in the first place. Whenever I take a trans apart and that main drive gear bearing is in its first stages of pitting damage, the damage always seams to be at the bottom of the race. I like the single row revision. I haven't as of yet seen any problems with them and the single row bearing was the same design that was used in the 5 speed models and it has a great reputation there as well. Thanks for the comment! make sure you thumbs up the videos as well!! Lol,
@thakery57204 жыл бұрын
@@HarleyDavidsonWizard Thanks for the reply and info - it was the outer portion of the bearing that failed and now I know why ! After my one failed and I was waiting for parts and tools I did a lot of research and heard that the twin row OE bearing could fail in as little as 3000 miles so I guess I got my money's worth. The actual striping and rebuilding of the trans was straight forward and easy except of course for the inner race bearing. Hopefully it won't go again but if it does I'll use the Baker one I have.

Brad what do you think I value your opinion to the harley 80w140 primary and transmission oil I bought some for the transmission and then realized I could use it in the primary what do you think I would have thought it would quieten the primary side regards Alan. Ps I usually run amsoil primary oil but I would like to try the harley 80w140.
