The verdict is in, here are my results from a spring application of Recognition herbicide and Fusilade2 with a spike of Halosulfuron for kyllinga sedges.

Did my first application last fall out by the street and it worked well. Did my second about three weeks ago along the driveway where I have had issues for years.. Waiting for results. Just the video I wanted to see. My St Augustine is mighty. Was hoping it would get rid of the Bermuda on its own last year. I just did my first application of this formula to kill my wild bermuda that has been invading my zoysia for the last 2yrs. The Fusilade rate is almost 5X (!) the rate I used last year with Triclopyr instead of Recognition. So far, the results have been amazing and the Bermuda looks dead while it didn't even touch the Zoysia. Very happy with Recognition/Fusilade combo! Not sure if it will ever kill the Bermuda completely but I think I'll hit it one more time in about 6wks and once a year after that to keep it out of my Zoysia. I hate wild Bermuda!

I applied in early spring and it worked pretty well for me, but I've had to reapply as Bermuda is pretty tenacious. Hopefully my St. Aug will start taking over more as we head into summer.

this mix alone is supposed to kill torpedo but I did not see results in my first test. This second time I have no torpedograss in my lawn so I again wasn't able to really test it. Maybe on the next one I will be able to try again. One thing I do know is that quinclorac kills St Aug so I'd be careful using it in this way.

Can you try this mix out on some St Aug with intruding centipede grass? Neither herbicide lists it as safe for centipede but neither claim to control centipede either so I’m wondering if it’ll knock out the centipede that’s also in my lawn. I’ll do it myself eventually if I can ever find a place with re-cognition in stock…

I would've cut the grass a half inch or so lower than typical. Then sprayed, knowing I'd added the extra nitrogen to the mix for quicker recovery of St Aug after the spray process. I also would not water lawn for initial 24 hrs min after spray . I have St Aug mostly, but Centipede too and yes Bermuda mixes in perhaps 2/3 of my acr lot (of which perhaps 1/2 acre is grass). I 100% need to do this and considering the quantity you mixed (for 3k sq ft) I'd probably mix/spray my whole yard though cause in areas where the St Aug is thickest, it's harder to see the Bermuda mixed within it.

It’s in the 90’s in Houston now is it to hot to use this? I’m also getting ready to apply some Celsius can I mix the three together with some green charge? The St Augustine is growing like crazy with the rain we’ve been getting. I’d like to take care of it so it will fill in with the aggressive growth we are seeing.

Recognition product label Section 5.2 “Use Precautions” states that Provista and Captiva St.Aug are more sensitive to injury from Recognition and should not be applied unless turf injury can be tolerated. FYI to those with Provista St.Aug. Recognition is shown to be safe on Floratam, Raleigh, Palmetto, and SunClipse.

An important point not sure was mentioned is that the purpose of Recognition is a "safener" to protect the St Aug from the Fusilade II. The Fusilade II is what is killing the bermuda.

yes that's a good call out. One of the other bonuses of using Recognition is it does kill clover, nutsedge, dollar weed and kyllinga - all of which infest lawns on the west coast of FL. It's really a good combination weed control all around.

Can Provista St Augustine grass be safely treated with the Fusilade II and Recognition mixture? I have Nutsedge taking over my new Provista lawn. Glyphosate did not kill it. I wanted to make sure that the safener was applicable to all St Augustine.

Noticed you applied in the middle of the day, the label of Fusilade talks about applying in the evening, night, or cloudy conditions. Do you have any opinions on if that is really effective? I'm in Tampa so similar weather to you and have had less success with this combo in the past. I could be walking too fast to get enough down but after re-reading the label i thought maybe the time of day might be working against me too.

time of day really isn't too big of a factor. More likely like you mentioned the walking speed was off and the chems didn't get good contact with the bermuda. I do stand behind the mix - it's worked very well for me in St Augustine and zoysia

Do you ever worry about the sheer amount of chemicals you spray on your lawn/lawns? I always second guess myself and end up just doing what I can by hand in worry of the potential long term effects. The recognition label says nothing about killing bermuda grass and Fusilade2 is verbally stated to not be compatible with St. Augustine grass. The lable states Only compatible with Zoysia grass! What variety of St Augstine grass are you applying the Fusilade to?
