Thanks again for the video Travis! I noticed the same thing as yourself with higher level athletes under performing and athletes who, generally, were middle of the road or below performing above their record in 2021 at the grand slams and grand prixs this year. In fact, I wondered whether or not upsets would occur with the top Japanese athletes at the Olympics for the exact reasons you lay out in this video. Although it appears that the Japanese light and middle weight athletes avoided this outcome, I think we are definitely seeing this trend with other talented athletes from other countries.

I miss the times when we had many scores in one match, many kokas, yukos, there was a short period of time when we had wazaaris not adding up to ippon. Waiting 6-7 minutes for one single score makes judo pretty hard to watch.

Feel like the second shido could have come a bit earlier for Bekauri in the semi and the final. Not blaming him for wanting to win safe but he was clearly stalling after his first wazari in both matches. Giving a second shido with 30s left rarely changes anything

Off the top of my head, Bekauri and Kochman did both score on each other, something wrong with judobase stats.

Hey Travis! Great video as usual :) You said Toth's score was a questionable score. I watched the match with Mukai Sochiro vs Krisztian Toth and I think it was an O uchi gari. Watch the right leg of Toth attacking Sochiro's left leg. Am I right? or am I missing something?

I'm sad Colton Brown is going to retire. Who else is going to rep the US now? Adonis? Is Nick Delpopolo even in the picture anymore? On the female side, Angelica is old too now in terms of judo age. Man... I hope there's a hero like Mike Swain or Jimmy Pedro that'll pop up again in the near future, but honestly, it's looking grim for USA judo.

I think nick might retire. he's be on a decline this last cycle.

@@MoneyOverFame It's pretty crazy to think that the most successful judo player in the history of America was a woman: Kayla Harrison. The men's division has never won a gold at the Olympics. Ever.

It should be 5 min matches with 2min golden score. Those super long fights are boring to watch and ugly. And 4 min matches seem like too short for getting equalizers.

What if they were all golden score matches?

@@TravisStevensgrappling The combats would be more static, less aggressive. Players would be more conservative.
@roppa1273 жыл бұрын
@@TravisStevensgrappling It would be exciting. But I think it could decrease the amount of ippons. And I think it is more fair if there is a chance to comeback.
