Gyalse/Prince Tenzing Jigme Namgyal was born on 9th January, 1962 to Gyalse Jigdal Tsewang Namgyal and Princess Sonam Yangchen (Lacham Kushoe). He received his elementary education at Saint Joseph's Convent, Kalimpong. He was an alumnus of North Point School, Darjeeling and the
Rishi Valley School, Andhra Pradesh.
Popularly addressed as Pompola (Prince), Prince Jigme, owing to the illness of his father, took over the reins of family responsibility at a young age and ensured the well-being of all his family members.
He married, at 26 years, Princess Sangay Deki Namgyal of the Tsechutharpa family of West Sikkim. Together, they had three children:
Tenzing Thutob Namgyal (son)
Rigzum Yangchen Namgyal (daughter)
Tenzing Jigdal Namgyal (son)
He approached people with great courtesy and effortlessly built connections with everyone he met, forging friendships and acquaintances wherever he went. All who knew him, were touched by his genuine humility and his numerous little acts of kindness and generosity.
He lived life to the fullest and on his own terms, and will forever be remembered with gratitude and fondness.
