The extra damplifier pro mat was delivered so I finish out the rest of the hatch on my 1990 Nissan S13 and fit the luxury liner pro mat to complete most of the sound dampening process. But more on that later...

When you reassemble the interior, remember to put on cloth tape on the screw/bolt holes, it helps delete rattles from inside the car!

Legitimate tesa tape works great. Knock off brands leave much to be desired.
@float6969

@@ryleythompson2314 I was about the post the same thing. Brand name Tesa tape is the only way to go. I had a rattle in a metal clip in my headliner that I couldn't get to stop. I tried a bunch of different things. Even a different brand of cloth tape. Someone on a car audio forum told me the same thing, that the Tesa brand tape was the best stuff. Took the headliner out for the zillionth time, put Tesa tape under the clip, on the clip, and around the opening, and that was it. It's never rattled again. I use it on every clip I remove and reinstall now, even if they don't rattle, just to make sure they don't.

You should look into using flame proof expandable foam in all the frame rails and open spaces like lower section of qp specifically around rear wheels it will quiet down the car 1000 times compared to the sound deadening material .

And also run the risk of retaining moisture and rotting your car out from the inside out. Don’t recommend this.
@jstylegarage
@jstylegarage Жыл бұрын
@@James-po2sv they use this for insulation on homes . As long as you don’t leave open spaces and holes for water to splash up into it the chances of that happening aren’t very high . I live in a very rainy state and have had it in my qp completely filled since 2009 and never a single issue and definitely no water in there . To each their own just offering something that maybe someone didn’t know about . My first time at a drift even riding in a car that was silent on the inside and this was his trick and I’ve always shared ever since because not many people talk about it .

I'm sure the foam would help, I worry about going too far with permanent stuff like the spray foam but to @core4365 point, I am planning on putting the Second Skin Overkill Mat that I'm using in the doors in the quarter panels as well to quite things down

Stuff rock wool in those empty cavities. Batdog garage does an awesome job showing the results if this off. I wouldn't ever put expanding foam as it's messy and gross. There's other items that do the same job if not better. As far as testing goes.

Not to add more work but... Is your headliner already in place? Any plans to soundproof the roof?
@avengednick
@avengednick Жыл бұрын
The headliner is still out and I went back and forth on whether or not I should do the roof with the damplifier pro mat but but decided not to because it makes it so paintless dent repair can’t be done so I try to avoid putting it on any exterior panels.
@nathanyoung8284
@nathanyoung8284 Жыл бұрын
@@avengednick depending on the angle of the metal being PDR'd it can be repaired with tools attached solely on the outside. Generally not advisable for hugely creased areas but you should be able to PDR a roof with foam in as long as the roof is a simple design and dents aren't very deep.

Sorry man, life happened. Long story short I wasn’t seeing the growth I needed to sustain posting as frequently as I was and build the car to the level I want so I’m investing my time and money elsewhere to set myself up for future. I still have the car and plan to work on it and film when I can but my free time is pretty scarce between my career and part time MBA program.

Look into a product made by 3M called EDM 1029. I'm in the middle of doing it right now, but if you remove the factory asphalt based sound deadening and install this stuff instead, it's a better sound deadener than the factory stuff and weighs about half as much. I should be able to do my whole interior, including the roof, and actually end up with the car weighing less than stock.
@float6969
@float6969 Жыл бұрын
@@avengednick Same. I've had half a dozen s-chassis's over the last 25 years or so. I've built cars that were as basic as really well cleaned up stock cars, all the way to full race with no interior. I'm 41 now and I'm over the "race car on the street" thing. I'm in the middle of doing the same thing you are to my current S14. I went with 3M EDM1029. It weighs about half as much as the typical butyl rubber stuff but is supposed to work as well. The downside is that it's it's way more expensive than the normal butyl rubber products. So far, I've only done the roof. I have a sunroof car, so it's noisy up there regardless, but it for sure made a big difference. And since it's lightweight, it's unlikely to come off when it gets hot. I have no idea if it would effect PDR though. 3M also makes a lightweight acoustic barrier material that I tried on the roof as well. The effect of sound treatments on a car never stop surprising me. It's SOOOO refreshing to see someone not gutting an S-chassis. Keep up the great work!
