This is a masterpiece of a series. It's got the frame of Rick and Morty but the deep and passionate story telling an award winning novel. And then there's the American Dad humor here and there. But what I love most about this series is that everyone that Gary befriends. Adopts his personality in a way. Even HUE is talking like him and avacato is turning into a cooler version of Gary. The subtle aspect of this series is that Gary changes people in the best way.

You have all these larger than life characters: HUE: A superintelligent Spaceship AI, KVN: a space robot, Mooncake: an alien made from another dimension, Avocato: An ex-war-criminal, doing his best to right his wrongs and safe his son, Quinn: A Genius-Level scientist trying to safe the earth Nightfall: A future version of another character with even more on her plate Dad: A Hero who saved the universe Mom: A notorious criminal known throughout the galaxy Lord Commander: Evil Incarnate etc etc etc... ... and then there's gary. pretty much a normal shmup like you and me. Just trying to do the right thing and failing over and over again. Yet he seems to elevate everyone he meets. I feel like this is kind of the entire point of the show. just try and give your best with all you got.

The 10 min to live is the best "dealing with death" I've seen. The 5 stages are not linier or final. You can go from accepting to bargaining. And the glorification is spot on, id make it another step, its not the same as accepce.

The change in emotion between 6:05 and 6:10 is so powerful, just seeing Gary let all his emotions out right then and there, love that he is voiced by the creator of the series, he really knew how he wanted this scene to play out, excellent voice acting on all sides

This show hit home a lot of times and really has depth to it, going from just another sci-fi space comedy turning into something beautiful. The way the characters develop and the writing, where we go with Gary from the start to where he/everyone ends up by the end of season 3 is quite an emotional roller-coaster. The fricken symbolism the cookies have represented since season 1! I'm very disappointed we won't get to see O'lan Rogers vision come to fruition (as of right now). I know he had another 3 seasons planned. Where we last saw Gary is at the (all is lost moment) that you would get in the middle of a motion picture. At the series pivotal point transitioning to the end. Maybe one day we all will be re-united with Gary Goodspeed, Avocado, Lil Cato, Quinn, Ash, Hue, MOONCAKE, and of course K.E.V.I.N🥲🙁

Actually three kind of Avocato his best bud (something he could not control) Quinn the love of his life (bound by duty, was forced to let Quinn make the sacrifice play) And finally his dad all over again (Someone he never saw of much, had the chance to maybe save his dad. Stopped by his dad knowing one's life cannot be bigger than the rest of the world... nah Universe sounds cooler)

they don't really put in jokes during emotional scenes though. They sometimes switch quickly between scenes, but to me it felt (mostly) natural and I feel like the humor adds to the characters.

Avocato's death was the saddest in my opinion. He had just gotten his son back, happy to spend a day with him and relax for once. But then he hears the bomb, and shit hits the fan. Gary's reaction is really good too; seeing his best friend hold a bomb and start running he starts sad but then instantly goes and grabs lil 'cato like Avocato wanted. Seen just tugs on your heart strings so fucking hard

We as the audience have watched him on that journey. Then the minute he achieves his goal, he finds out his son is going to be taken from him for good. So he makes one last sacrifice. For his son. Quinn’s is sad for the reasons you described. We’ve watched her grow closer to Gary over the season, and came to know her better. And right before the fight, it looked like they were going to get together. Only for her to die, to save Gary. And the rest of her friends.
