Gunpowder has been big business in Europe since it's introduction to the battlefield and the mining and quarrying industries. Very dangerous process with frequent explosions and fatalities amongst the workforce. The Hounslow Gunpowder Mills (actually located on the banks of the River Crane in Twickenham) recorded numerous explosions. One of them, in 1772, blew out all the decorative glass from the mansion of Horace Walpole in Strawberry Hill (about 1.5 miles away!). The manufacturing process is nicely depicted in the Tom Hardy TV series Taboo.

@@mslattery8710 I visit crane park often and the shot tower is listed and remains but little remains of the gun powder workings just evidence of some footings , spill heaps and water control sluices and the area much more overgrown than I remember back when I walked my dog back in the 1970 and 80s. Rewilded as they call it now.

What a great place to show us. You probably picked the best time of year to visit because in the summer the foliage would have obscured most of the buildings. I’m so glad you eventually put your gloves on near the beginning of the vlog. When I first rode a bike an old biker told me to always wear gloves. I didn’t listen until I came off and took off a lot of skin from my hands.

Freddie, a little tip for slow speed manoeuvres. Yes you are right to always look at where you want to go, but try riding the back brake, hold it like you're on a slope and then you'll feel the bike dip down at the back and almost glue itself to the road. It's magic.

OK, this is Andy your resident Cornish correspondent here handing out the corrections as usual, LOL😉First off, It's Kennall Vale and it's a Nature Reserve operated by Cornwall Wildlife Trust. It is a favourite place of mine. There is a Kingfisher there! You didn't see the quarry pool off to the left, very atmospheric... Also, you will get Brownie points from Cornish Nationalists for calling it Kernow. Next, never, ever refer to it as a mere county, Region at least lol. Also, try out a few Cornish phrases such as Kernow Bys Vyken, or Onen Hag Oll. I'll leave you to look them up. Another couple of places in a similar vein are at Luxulyan where there are extensive remains including a giant water wheel and a Proper Viaduct. That is a Unesco World Heritage Site and finally there is another Gunpowder factory site at Upton towns near Hayle and the astounding Godrevy Lighthouse.

Interesting vlog Freddie, we have very similar forgotten gun powder and ammunitions factories in South Wales, the buildings are built strategically distanced to avoid a chain reaction in case of an explosion, also the buildings that were at risk of an explosion were built with a type of 'relief valve' in their structure so to lesson the force of any explosion.

Most 125cc Hondas are fuel economy miracles. 1.5 liters +/- per 100 km for almost all types with the horizontal cylinder (incl. Innova and Wave), and also my scooter Honda Forza 125 with the full 15 hp of this category consumes an average of only 2.1 liters per 100 km (after a total of 20,000 kilometers).

Enjoyed that. Loving in Cornwall, when we go out of county, we light heartedly refer to it as going to England. And those gunpowder mills and factories often had very flimsy roofs designed to blow off in an explosion. This was to hopefully leave the walls standing to enable an easier rebuild.

Another entertaining and scenic visit to the old gunppowder factory. I couldn't work out why they would need waterwheel power - bit of swotting required as I though gunpowder consisted of carbon, sulphur and saltpetre (potassium nitrate). But there is no doubt some power needed rather than just mix these up. Back in the good old days at secondary school my pals and I would make bombs created fom sodium nitrate (weedkiller) and sugar but I don't recommend it! Did Monika manage to ride pillion - the Dax looks v small.

Well, what can i say. Another outstanding video that gives an informative window into your travels. I'm struggling with the bike though. You extol its virtues very well but i just can't be inspired by it at all. Each to their own of course and the fact you love it is all that matters really. I keep getting images in my mind of paratroopers in WWII unpacking this from a crate and using it to get to the battle. After that its done and served its purpose. I'm not a lover of the Grom either but they are very popular so i am sure it will do well. Great stuff though and long may it continue. Great informative video Freddie.Had 3 ST70s back in the 70s & 80s, 2 red/silver and one blue/ silver as ' run-arounds ' , then the cheapest ' small ' bike you could buy.The value of those original bikes sky-rocketed , and the earlier all silver , ' flowery Paisley seat ' ones are worth a small fortune !.I can imagine a 125 version must be great from your enthusiasm as the ST70s were a little underpowered .Tempted between the 125 DAX or the Monkey which is especially cute !.

A crucial difference between the Dax and the Monkey. The Monkey doesn't allow for a pillion as it has a solo seat and the subframe can't handle the extra weight. Cornwall is a special place, very fond memories there as a child. Have you ever been to North wales, around Gwynedd? I'm going to head back there this summer to ride and wild camp, highly recommend it. ✌

I’ve done bits of Wales, but Northern Wales is a trip I must try and do this summer, and wild camping sounds like a perfect option🏕️

@@FreddieDobbs nice well I highly reccomend it, the roads and scenery is absolutely stunning. Getting some camping, hiking and photography in too makes it a fantastic trip to ground oneself with nature.

Yes. I've seen one where they put up extra high sand walls a few feet around each building, to shield them against each other.

Freddie, I blame you. I already have four bikes in the garage. I don’t need another one. Especially a 125 DAX! So far, Honda has no plans to import the DAX into the US. But😮not long after Honda ceased production on the DAX, a couple of companies in China started making clones. Nearly identical to the one I rode in 1969 but with a 125, semi automatic four speed. I ordered one this morning. Wish me luck reliving my youth😂

If the Grom is sold over there, that's the best in the Honda Mini Moto lineup - It has a manual 5 speed, and can be had (in Canada) without ABS . Try one out...

Grom and monkey both 5 speed on the latest models, quite a few prefer the 4 speed if fitting a big bore kit though as the 5 speed can only be upto 150cc whereas the 125 can be over 200cc but the 5 speed is a bit better in other ways, has a proper oil filter instead of the screen like on the 4 speed.

Do you have the anti vibration adapter plate on your quad lock mount? Worth using one as certain bikes have been known to damage smart phones accelerometers effectively destroying the phone. I love the Dax and Monkey but the easiness they can be put into a van and taken deters me, I think I’d have the RE Hunter.

What beautiful scenery and a great place to utilise the Dax, though I was worried you were going to take out that bloke getting off the bus 😂 must admit I'd have gone for the gap too. Looking forward to see if you do let go of the keys for the Defender when you drop it off, Monika better hold on to your wallet. Great video.

One should always be cognisant of the clothes one wears because that attire will be what you are wearing as a ghost. My choice is an old-fashioned fireman's helmet, a clown's comedy red nose, a string vest, a pink tutu, flippers and a sign on a stick that says "BOO!". I'm not dead yet but it works in my local Tesco.
