Even as a Protestant, I can appreciate the beauty, joy, and symbolism in this ceremony. It's two years since their professions, but I pray God's continued blessings upon them. I'm in my 50's and didn't realize until recently that the religious clothing nuns/mothers/sisters wear is symbolic of the armor of God.

I’m a Catholic convert and I value greatly the religious life but I do not understand how anyone could consider themself a bride of Christ? Are priests husbands of the church?
@ellaella5537 Жыл бұрын
Unfortunately, the Catholic Church is very patriarchal. Priests represent Jesus Christ… and nuns are just the wives. It’s odd
@denicesanders4586 Жыл бұрын
I think they get Bride of Christ from when scripture talks about the body of Christ, the church, being his bride. I don't know if they take the title literally.

I’m super uncomfortable hearing nuns refer to themselves as brides of Christ. Why can’t it suffice to say they are devotees or apostles?
@mariasoniamoreno3433 Жыл бұрын
@@denicesanders4586 Stop Responding Nuns are called “brides of Christ” because they devote their lives to serving and loving God exclusively 1. This is a reminder that God should be number one in our lives. The term “bride of Christ” is also used for religious sisters who center their lives on God and want to remind others of our final home, heaven, where all of us will be united with God in perfect love and happiness 1. The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches that all nuns are mystically betrothed to Jesus Christ. In this actual marriage ceremony, a young woman dressed in white makes a public vow to the Church. After this public profession, the young woman is told that she has become the bride of Christ and must consecrate herself to God “until death” 2. According to Catechist Magazine.

Religious Sisters and Nuns are consecrated to God in such a way by the vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience that they enter into a spousal relationship with Christ. Their vocation is to be His bride, setting aside their own wills to better conform their lives to His will.

It is not a wedding day. They may take religious vows but they do not make sacramental marriage vows. I wish they would quit using the term bride of Christ, and that he is their spouse.

By their vows, they are essentially wedding themselves to Christ through their total self-gift of themselves to Him.

I am a protestant Christian and I can't understand why someone should close themselves in a monastery in order to show love for Christ. Jesus did not do it. His disciples did not do it. Christ send them in the world, not out of the world to cultivate selfish holiness. They lived among other people and families and preached with their lives of sound principles and service. Young women, your families need you. You should take care of your mothers and fathers and keep the 5th commandment of God. Honour your fathers and mothers especially when they get older.

so if the vows taken by these sisters to make them the brides of christ, the logical then is the monks and brothers when they take vows means they are then the bridegroom's of christ
@childofMotherMary18 күн бұрын
no, because being a bride is essentially feminine in nature. when priests and monks make vows they are vowing to the Church (since the Church is feminine), when nuns make their vows they are vowing to the person of Christ (since he is essentially masculine) and this is similar to consecrated virgins who are also women and considered brides of Christ. the nuptial aspect of the Church is very important and the Church does not want to stray away from this. hope this helps
