Just a couple tips of my own as I'm playing through this; Type C is the best config for magic burst and charge burst, unless you really like claw gripping square and triangle with Type A. And only crazy people use Type B. Don't be crazy. Knock back enemies with a charged strike then pull them back inwards with Deadly Embrace to continue your combo or chase after them with Phoenix Shift and attack them while they're downed. Feels very satisfying to be unrelenting in this game. One of the most fun combos is charging up your sword, jumping then hitting the enemy which launches them up with Clive, then hit them a few times, stomp to get more air, hit them again, stomp once more and finish the combo with an extreme downthrust. Or you could continue the aerial combo a little more with a Wicked Wheel. Should already know this by now if you're at this point, but partially staggered enemies can be incapacitated for a few more seconds with Deadly Embrace allowing for you to get more easy shots in. Really loving this combat system.

The only reason it's the default is cause the devs likely thought some players might have trouble Eikon switching with triangle or might accidentally switch with triangle while trying to a R2 + triangle attack. Not an issue with type C after just a few minutes of getting acclimated with it. It's the best feeling config for me but I suppose some players might be able to make Type B work for them. @@aninfinitemindofmusicandreams I did have a fair bit of trouble with Type C at first once I got Garuda but you get used to it pretty soon, just like how I got used to 30fps. Just takes a little time. I think Type B works if you really like the God of War config

Struggling with the timing of Magic Burst? There’s a setting in the Arete Stone training room that visually shows you the burst window. Super useful.

Here’s a good combo. Do lunge from further away and it’ll upgrade. Follow up with a magic attack while charging the melee button and release after the magic attack. I’m always charging and holding either magic/melee to finish off a combo then use the dog to extend the combo and repeat or use a special attack

Its why i and many others swear by the type c control scheme. It makes starting and maintaining a charge easier with different fingers needed for attack and magic. My go to basic combo is now attack, magic burst into magic charge, attack, attack, attack, and a charged magic shot replacing the enhanced magic burst. With the upgradedmagic charge you can get 2 magic bursts in and finish charging before your final attack. Does more damage than the 8 hit magic burst combo and is less stressful not having to worry about gettimg the timing of every burst.

@@elSveppi of course! Another good tip i found nestled away in the settings is to turn on the follow enemy setting in the camera options. It auto turns the camera to whoever you are locked onto when lock on changes; such as auto locking onto a new enemy after killing an enemy. Helps keep the flow of battle up without you having to manually turn the camera to find your target. As for my favorite combo ive done in the game so far if you are interested in playing with more of the charge mechanics practice this and you will feel like a guarunteed badass. I start by charging both attacks then doing an arial burning blade on an enemy. That launches them into the air. Then i do a double stomp to gain extra height and hit them with a downward thrust; holding square. That sends them crashing to the ground for heavy damage. Release square to instantly do another burning blade and blow them away. Then release the magic charge youve been holding to launch them skyward again. Chase after them with phoenix's eikonic ability and do an arial combo on them followed by another downward thrust holding square. Perform a 3rd burning blade on landing then chase them again with phoenix's eikonic ability before finishing the combo with a punisher. Its a very seemless and badass looking combo and does great damage, providing you dont already eviscerate the enemy partway through the combo.

My go to combo is normally ravage with torgal, Phoenix shift, air combo with magic bursts, double jump, downward strike for huge ape while holding attack and let go when landing

Yeah when I play final fantasy I don’t expect to have fighting game reflexes and combo strings lol. Action combat really ruined the series. I didn’t equip the combo ring for the demo on my first run and then after I realized I was like oh…. So this is how the combat is supposed to be lol 😂 they really don’t let you experience the true combat unless you’re crazy skilled… this is supposed to be an rpg… not dark souls.

I'm trying really hard to play this game for it's phenomenal story but I really really hate this arcade combat system of button mashing combos. Tried the accessories but feels like the game is playing itself at that point. Miss the FF7-12 gameplay😢 This helps some tho thank you❤

its not button mashing, you are just that bad at them. even in official guide / faq square enix has on their site it says "dont button mash, play strategic".

I'm sure neanderthals loved beating there clubs against the stones in a similar manner then circled the fire pounding their chests with enthusiasm but I personally find that kind of "strategy" super boring but I'm sincerely glad some people are enjoying it. I just miss when Final Fantasy games were RPGs.

Been a fan since Final Fantasy 4 when I was young on the SNES. So far I absolutely adore XVI. The Eikons, the characters, the world, the music, the battle system, and oh my god the graphics are so good! It’s so cool to see how far we’ve come since the SNES. And Torgal is best pup! Plus the game even had its own spoony bard. Can’t ask for more!!!

I'm still tripping up on the doge. I can deal with holding down triangle, but I often get R1 to dodge confused with circle/x o dodge from so many other games. I either jump or do a phoenix dash when I want to evade an attack.

Picked it up yesterday. Had a few hours with it, but sadly I've noticed something that irks me a bit. I can clearly see the influence of FFXIV on this title. In towns it feels like a single player MMO. Interactions feel janky and pulls me out of the experience a bit. The combat and storytelling is still S-tier, but so far the "inbetweens" feel slapped together. Just my two cents.
