I can't believe out of all the FF game's that's been remade and remastered so far, Crisis Core hasn't been touched ONCE! ONCE! And it's a prequel to arguably one of the best RPGs of all time! In a way, I'm happy they've waited this long. Technology has only gotten better, so if they ever do remake it, it's going to look amazing and will have more time before it begins to look dated. However, they're doing a compilation game for Before Crisis, Crisis Core and Final Fantasy 7 for mobile and they may write it off as that being the "remake". I hope not, but also as as they've retconned the ending of Crisis Core for FF7R, it might not make sense to remake CC when its plot has been so heavily changed.

Zack's characterization was done really well given that we already knew what was going to happen. But honestly, the weakest part was Genesis and pushing Loveless as a core subplot. Though there is a theory that Loveless will be as involved in the Remake so I hope they do a better job this time around.

I remember noticing the changes to the Minerva statue back when I first played the game as I’d gotten a Japanese copy for my birthday and later an English one when it was released. Also the Emerald Weapon gave me a borderline jump scare when I first saw it as I’d just fought it recently at the time when I was a kid.

A random fact about me and this game. Since its release, I went through a total of 5 copies of this game. 1st: Suffered scratches 2nd: I played to failure 3rd: I left on a plane and only realized after I was already out of the airport(it was in my PSP too...) 4th: Was a Russian copy a friend sent me. I left it with my sister. 5th: My current JPN copy I got while staying at Roppongi in Tokyo a few summers back. I can't stress enough how much I love this game and wasn't the biggest fan of how they went back to it in the Remake. I wish this game had a remaster but iirc, due to Gackt's involvement, that's probably not going to be possible...

Crisis Core is the reason I wanted a PSP. I remember seeing the game bundled with the PSP around June or so. I convinced my mum to buy it for my birthday, and she did... but my birthday wasn't until September, so she stored it away in her wardrobe until my birthday. Crisis core got me into Final Fantasy, I remember picking it up in the pre-owned section at my local game store for $30, thought why not fell in love with the series, after playing 7 proper as an adult with actual understanding of genetics, you realise how important Hojo is. He states Jenovas cell's are used to help create the soldier first class fighters, so few of them actually survive it, I think it was taken from the trial of grasses from the Witcher Books which came out way before the games, I think they liked the concept and went with it. In the final act of crisis core it emphasizes Cloud having open wounds, Jenova, Sephiroth and Zacks blood all entered him. This fractured his mind, then there is an entire sub plot of restoring Cloud's mind in 7 proper. Cloud was never a clone like the largely accepted theory say's. Cloud went through the most brutal soldier creation they could think of. However because the theory is widely accepted with little proof thanks to something Sephiroth says, I think the remakes are making the Clone theory canon. He only has a connection because he has Sephiroths blood running through his viens, he even has Zacks who constantly gives him advice. Jenovas just increase his physical strength. What I think happened they never intended for people to think Cloud was a clone, Dolly the sheep just made international news when 7 was released. So people in the schoolyard had cloning on their minds, Sephiroth states him and Cloud are the same, people just ran with it. Hojo even states Cloud shouldn't exist, he tells you how it works, people ignored it, crisis core even shows it, people still stuck with the clone theory. Schoolyard discussion that everyone ran with, like Mew under the truck.

I think it’s more copyright issues with the end theme tbh. Genesis has been seen in other games occasionally such as FFRK (including his CG art on banners and other places), so I don’t think it’s Gackt or his likeness preventing it from being remade. Also, the end theme version of Why is not available on the albums as they are on Spotify and other places, so that might be what’s actually complicating things imo.

I loved the atmosphere of Dirge, but damn it needs a full overhaul beacase that gameplay is terrible... Having a cool looking double jump is great, but if you can't jump over ankle high objects it's a bit of a design flaw. Though at least they improved it slightly from the Japanese version, that's just beyond horrible to play.

One complaint I have about Crisis Core. The One Winged Angel moniker was supposed to be for Sephiroth, which made him unique. When Angeal got one, I was still like "alright, I guess that's fine", then it was Genesis, and the final freakin' straw was when Hollander got that stupid batwing on his shoulder. I wish Square Enix would put out a HD remaster of this on the Switch. This and Dissidia 012. Honestly the Switch just feels like the perfect place for HD remasters of PSP games. They'd have to do some work to them, but not the same amount of work that would be expected for a PS5/Xbox Series release.

Did you know? Zacks death was retconned just to subvert your expectations and all you had to do is kill some ghosts, killing all stakes in the process now that people can just randomly come back to life.

One part I always find interesting in Crisis Core, is how much Kunsel seems to know even though he’s just a SOLDIER 2nd class. He knows more than most other characters other than the Turks, and even pieced Zack being the escaped sample before Cissnei. I hope we get to find out how he knows so much since he was name dropped in the Remake. Also glad he was a good friend of Zack instead of someone going after him. If Kunsel was an enemy, he would be dangerous with how much he knows.

It's a great series they have going, especially their proficiency in Japanese that adds more to why a lot of the dialogue is the way it is. On the subject of Dark Sector, it's been very confusing to ke why they don't cover Xenosaga and/or Xenoblade Chronicles 2.

As much as I love Crisis Core, the levelling system and the DMW in general always frustrated me. It was literally a slot machine and the only way to level was to beat enemies to get XP, and then get 777 in the DMW to use the XP to gain a level. I ended up playing through the entire game three times and while I had a buttload of XP, I had only gotten to level 56 because it was just so rare to actually get 777 for the level up. Hopefully, if they ever decide to revisit Crisis Core in either a remake or a remaster, they fix this issue.

I can remember that I read somewhere it before. The game has a hidden XP, and when you hit the needed XP to level up, the DMW will roll to 777.

Always felt that the reason why Zack wears Blue instead of the Purple 2nd Class was an internal ranking in the 2nd Class Soldiers. With Purple being Soldiers who were not due for a promotion and the Blue being those that were being considered. As to bring them forward and make it known to the Soldier that they are going to be important figures in the future if they were to be truely promoted. Thus why they were to wear a different colour and allowed to go about without their helms and such. 1st Class Soldiers were the Faces of Soldier, thus the 2nd Class Potentials were to get used to the fact that the populous were to know who they are at a glance and see them as more than just a Soldier...

Can you do Lore video's about the locations in Final Fantasy, Esthar is my favourite final fantasy city and i think Esthar could have a standalone open world style game like Cyberpunk but actually good and with FF battles and Hitman espionage.. Glad to have soft modded my Vita so I could play a number of PSP exclusives again on it (using Adrenaline). The graphics are slightly worse off because the Vita has a bigger screen/different resolution, but not enough that it ruins the experience.

The vita resolution is literally double that of the psp so it should be an easy resize. Are there any sort of settings to adjust graphical fidelity in adrenaline ?

The blur effect from bilinear filtering seems to round things out (not as pixelated). I can choose from different resolutions or use a custom resolution (which I do, since the other options won't fill out the entire screen; I drag it to fill the whole screen). Other games look better depending on the style of graphics. I can choose no adjustment or original resolution on PS1 games, but not on PSP games. Only issue there is you're playing on a square in the center of your screen that's comparatively small. Overall, no real complaint. Vita graphics are in no way a deal breaker on the games I've played on it.

I use an emulator on my phone and a rom to play it. I need to dig out my old psp, see if it works, and order crisis core if I can.

could have added the voice actor for genesis is a big reason they wont be able to remake the game due to his prior contract. also i think minerva was misspelled

Nope. Not the reason. The character model was Gackt. Nomura fell in love with Gackt and started stalking him. Gackt got a restraining order that included no remake of the game. While Ever Crisis is going to have a remake of Crisis Core, the character model will be changed. It had nothing to do with the voice actor.

hm... I was half-expecting with the topic about names to bring up that Zack's Japanese name being originally "Zax"... I was hoping for an explanation unless that was covered in another video, but I'm just gonna assume localizers presumed the Japanese team intended it to be "Zack" but misspelled it somehow, or perhaps it was done on purpose being afraid it'd sound too identical to the enemy robot names in Gundam called the "Zaku"

It's a CRIME that this game hasn't been remastered. I can't even play my copy anymore because my PSP is shot :( Would love to be able to just play all my PSP games for that matter, on my PS5 - but especially this. Not happy at all that Ever Crisis is going to be a Gacha.

You could try running it on a PC with PPSSPP. Doesn't require very high end hardware, personally looking forward to running PSP games on the Steam Deck when it's out.
