Finalized conversion of Kurzweil K2500 factory patches to the K2700

I have now made the K2500 factory patches sounding identical on the K2700 (except just a couple and the effects). In this video I made a short improvised tune played on the K2700 using 16 patches of the almost 200 K2500 factory patches.

That's a superb job you did there. I just dusted of my K2500r to do the same for some of my favorite sounds/setups. The K2500 made much more use of the ribbon, like some subtle marktree sounds and more. I would certainly pay for these sounds if you're willing to put them up for sale. I guess there are way more people that would like to do the same.

Thanks! I have to confess that I have not used the ribbon much. Probably in these converted K2500 patches I have omitted the ribbon, if it was used somehow in the original patches.

Great Performance with the K2700. Maybe you can make a Video to Show in Detail how you work with the Sequenzen or arpeggiator to Produce such Sound Cluster . That would be interessting

Omg I recently just was shopping around for a new workstation. I was looking at the K2700. Are you overall satisfied with this keyboard. I have wanted a Kurzweil since 1991.

Overall I'm satisfied and would still not choose differently. There are some disappointments in usability and compatibility, but the sound quality is amazing.

I take it the K2700 cannot load samples from the early boards? Bit daft that, from what i read the K2500 and k2600 can load the sounds from the K2000.

Oh yes it can! Samples have no problems as they are very simple. My own samples from the K2500 were loaded into the K2700 just fine. I don't have a K2000 so I can not say for sure for that one, but I suspect it will work. Importing programs are more problematic because there are changes in the way panning, volume and other parameters work in the K2700, and Kurzweil did not put enough effort to make the import function free of bugs. But after importing, the programs can be corrected manually to work as they should. A lot of extra work, but on the positive side, less work than if you would have to do everything from scratch.

I’m just wondering is this just to show you can there is a channel (inside_joke) where he ports NI pianos , Rhodes to Kurzweil.the channel has a Patreon , why not do the same and sell your conversions otherwise this is just pointless video. most of us just don’t have the time nor old versions to port the original K2500to K2700, shame because you could be rewarded for all this effort by selling it. Anyway good luck if ever you do plan a Patreon page to sell your patches let me know.

I'm not sure I can sell patches originally made by Kurzweil. Best option would be if Kurzweil could distribute them. My need for old K2500 patches is that I have many unfinished projects and no room for the K2500 and hoped I could continue my projects seamlessly. People making new projects should be happy with the thousands of patches of the K2700 and not need old K2500 patches. But I'll look into options, including Patreon but I'm extremely busy as I have two jobs and a GF that don't want me to do any music related stuff.

@@GrimVoxTech Off course you can, these aren't patches in the K2700 you have spent time creating them and its actually a custom mod of patches from K2500. You of course cant sell anything you personally didnt modify to any degree. Id create a patreon and you can lets users subscribe because you provide vids that benefit from your wisdom. Id do it but im sooooo busy on other music projects. I used to create patches and samples on K2500/k2600

Humble advice: the first K2700 patch seems to have a more percussive attack, and more detuning than yhe original

Yes the attack is obviously one difference. I actually have about 5 different versions now of this patch. All slightly different, none are exact. Replacing the LPGATE exactly with filter envelope is impossible. The reason is that Kurweil envelopes can not be programmed with enough precision. Ideally it should be possible to adjust the attack envelope at 1 millisecond or finer resolution. The attack is very important of a sound, and a tiny change makes the sound very different. But my ultimate goal is not to make a 100% replica, but to make a good sound that I can use in my songs.

I was really disappointed with my K2700 as you can’t edit or sample in it like the K2000 and k2500

True, that is a drawback. But I prefer editing samples with a PC these days because you have much more advanced features and a large display. The real disappointment is that you can not have the K2700 connected to a computer as a memory drive to quickly transfer samples and patches, you need to use a USB memory stick. And not all USB memory sticks work with the K2700, and you need to inconveniently plug the stick in the back - not easy in a crowded studio. Even supporting SDS (sample dump standard) over MIDI would help even if it is slow.

@@GrimVoxTech I agree, but it’s still a lot of messing about editing on a computer and then transferring to the keyboard, I still prefer sampling directly to the keyboard or rack-mount version and editing within. I will try and find an old K2000RS I still love it, I tried loading the original patches of the K2000 in to the 2700 and it sounded noting like the originals, to be honest I prefer my Kurzweil PC3k 6 I’m someways to my K2700.
