Romania is a decade into its conversion from Soviet to NATO jets they had westernized MIG21s and moved to F16s, they also had full access to NATO training and they're still having problems thinking Ukraine can obtain the same results in a fraction of the time is completely insane.
@irongron

exactly. Same goes for Poland, ten years to get off Soviet garbage to F-16's etc, that's the entire big picture, flying complex 4-ship missions etc. Not just converting to the plane and "flying" it, which you can do in a few months. When I tell this in other podcasts I get trolls saying it's BS to take ten years or a decade, "I converted in a few months", it makes me wonder if they were even real fast jet pilots!

What you dig out from mines is "tailings", so that's a "tailings heap" (or in some cases a hill, they are so large in Donetsk region). Tailings are the waste heaps left over from the small fraction of ore you dig up. My home town is Pokrovsk, my wife and I are IDP in West Ukraine. Since the loss of Avdiivka, thanks to Moscow Mike Johnson and MTG etc in the GOP, I have been saying to my wife and online that the russians will be looting our flat by the end of the year. Sadly it seems I will be correct (I hope to God I am wrong). Finally loose lips do sink ships Torsten, it really bothers me when the mass media or ignorant KZbinrs trumpet loudly form the rooftops about what's going on here for certain activities. We all do our best here in Ukraine to adhere to OPSEC, but that does not apply to careless media providers. I thank you for your honest sitreps, and OPSEC. Not aggressively preventing random US citizens from going to Ukraine is a lot different than actively sending current and retired F-16 pilots and maintainers who hold security clearances from doing the same. can’t… look… away…😯 once upon a time, when i was working the first job i ever had, i was manning the counter, staring out the window with nothing else to do. it was cold. somewhere in the -10 -15 fahrenheit neighborhood so no one was buying gas. traffic was very light, but there were cars stopped at the traffic light in both lanes, so when a third car came rolling up to the light, at about 5 miles an hour, it was very dramatic. the street was glare ice. smooth as if a zamboni had just prepped it for a hockey match. the third cars wheels spun slowly, then stopped, then spun again and stopped again 20, maybe 30 times. didn’t make a bit of difference. that car hit the stopped car in front of it at the same 5 miles per hour. watching russia try to take ukraine reminds me of that crash. anyone with half-a-brain could have seen it coming, that fool had no business taking his car, or army, out of the garage without preparing for the real world. the difference is that the only “ice” keeping putin from stopping is his own ego. might have been 20 below zero, it was 49 years ago. back when polar vortexes were a new phenomenon. they’re common now, a sign that we’ve left the holocene behind and have embarked upon the anthropocene. the new age created when industrial emissions changed our atmosphere, creating global warming. since war causes more global warming than anything else, we must become tolerant of each other and live together peacefully, or suffer from more extreme global warming. it’s already bad, it’s going to get much worse. the sooner turn our economies into environmentally healthy agents of restoration, from their current dependency upon destruction, the easier and better for everyone… even putin, as if he deserves the slightest consideration. ☮️❤️🌎🌏🌍 p.s. still working on the peace and love part of being human.

Although the US may not officially back retired pilots and crews to support the F16s, they can't stop them going voluntarily. I'm sure there are more than a handful of pilots who would love getting back into the seat and helping out. But O can see why the government would be hesitant to of focally provide such assistance. Frankly, we should do this, but with elections coming up soon, they don't want to risk blowback that could hurt the elections. Unfortunately, beating Trump is a high priority for both the Democrats and ultimately Ukraine. But discussion of the issue may reveal high support for such efforts, in which case, this position might easily change. Loke it or not, beating Trump is very high priority now, with good reason.

I agree with your statements about location identification. I am also amazed that the west reports exactly what equipment and arms are being sent. So the Russians can look for these arms and destroy them. My opinion is that nothing should be broadcast except location and results of battles.

It's about time that the rest of NATO says somthing to the US. Are they in or are they out, cause if they don't want to support 100% they are out and europe has to do it all by our selves, it will be hard but that's maybe the best

"Loose lips, sink ships" is a shortened variation of the phrase in US Homeland Security propaganda during the Atlantic War. The original phrase on the poster was: "The slip of a lip, may sink a ship" as I read years ago in the book "The US Navy in WWII", published by the Historical Service of the same.

"Western Official" who was briefed. It is none of his business releasing that information. No wonder Ukraine didn't feel it was a good idea to brief the US on the Kursk invasion. Why send an empty drone. Why one include at least a small war head. If it is missed by defence, then it could do some "good" for the side who sent it.
@allydea
@allydea Ай бұрын
Why send an empty drone? Because if you're not going to equip it with a serious guidance system, then it would count as indiscriminate bombing, which the Russians don't do (at least not at the strategic level), despite the established consensus in the west.

@@malcolmchalmers9231 Politicians dragged their feet too long, yes. But for the Iris-T, PzH2000 and RCD155 promised and ordered they're actually doing the best they can now. Production volume was very low to begin with and despite frantic ramp up efforts doubling Iris-T production its still only 8 a year. And maybe the most crippling thing are the long lead times in this situation.

Americans are good allies? A few points to ponder WW 1, late WW2, late Suez war, US stopped Britain & France, imperilled Israel, thereby aided Muslim extremists. Korean war, late, indecisive result, country split. Vietnam war, late, lost. Iraq 1 & 2 wars, hesitant, 2nd attempt has ended disastrously. Afghanistan, late, lost and 'donated' billions of $ worth of military hardware to the enemy. Ukraine Russia war, hesitant, refuses full assistance, places numerous restriction on the Ukrainian Defence Forces. Israel Gaza war, refuses full assistance, places numerous restriction on the Israel Defence Forces, attempts to aid the enemy with 'humanitarian' supplies & encourages a ceasefire which the enemy has repeatedly said it will use to re-arm and break. Conclusion: The U S is plagued with political indecision and lacks Churchillian qualities of clear sight, decisive commitment & politicians lack ability to take the public with them. Americans are good allies?
