Ive had this bike for a few days. So far im impressed. Has enough power and its comfortable on trails or just riding around the neighborhood.

This is probably the most fun mtb I’ve ever owned. I’ve had a Giant stance and Trance then a Trek Fuel but never an EMTB I rolled the dice not going for a big brand but so far this thing has been awesome. Warranty is good as well!

Great video. I like the fact that the new SW update enables switching modes thru the app (either cadence or torque sense) as there is a case for both. Your video helped cement the fact that it makes a pretty good eMTB on some fun trails so an overall good hybrid.

If you wanted different wheels or tubeless ready tires, how would you do that with the hub motor embedded in the rear wheel?
@RunBikeMike7 ай бұрын
If the wheelset on it can’t go tubeless (haven’t tried it yet) you would need to buy a front wheel and a rear hoop with spokes. And have it built.

@robmaxwell36784 ай бұрын
Yeah, at 67 my days of trails with roots and big hills are behind me. I'd still like to ride some easier dirt trails but something like the Velotric Nomad 1+ might fit the bill for less money.

Will this bike go well with concrete bike paths? I was looking at their other orange bike but the tires were skinny 40c x 700. Too skinny for me to feel stable riding it. I feel this bike would be more stable riding it.
@RunBikeMike7 ай бұрын
Yes it will work perfectly on concrete but loves the dirt trails too.

Interesting bike and competitive pricing. Their website is easily navigable although it is missing some critical specs. For instance, it says the drive train is Shimano 8 speed but doesn't say if has a freewheel or freehub ?(Hub drive motors typically have freewheel) No specs on headset sizing and type, tapered fork or straight, BB sizing(73 mm likely since it has boost spacing) , etc... Granted these specs are not critical to 90% of the riders that this bike is marketed towards, but it would still be beneficial to know them before purchasing for someone like me who has several used components of higher quality from previous upgrades to other bikes I own that I could use to upgrade the bike with in particular the brakes, fork(130 mm Bomber Z2) and possibly the drivetrain(if it has a free hub) with a 10 speed Shimano Cues .
@RunBikeMike7 ай бұрын
I agree it is missing some specs us bike riders look for. But it is upgradable to an 11 speed. It does have a HG hub. I might break it down showing more details on specs since that isn’t available on their site.

@@RunBikeMike I certainly would appreciate that. I've been on the search for a decent and affordable e-bike to buy for my brother so he'll start riding along with me. He typically doesn't like to go because he isn't in shape enough to keep up. An e-bike like this would help him out.

I'm curious about changing the rear tire if you should happen to get a flat. How difficult is that process?
@RunBikeMike7 ай бұрын
You will need a small wrench to get the back wheel off. I would recommend getting tannus armor for at least the back wheel. amzn.to/3xXLDpO
@ellaochomogo51547 ай бұрын
Same as any bike with a derailleur but you will also need to cut 2 zip ties and disconnect the wire under the left chain stay tube before removing the wheel. I don't recommend any flat sealant as they add weight and affect the wheel's balance. The correct fix is a new tube!

Thank you for the video. Does anyone know if the GPS tracker is self-powered in the event the bike is stolen and the thief removes the main battery? Does it have cruise control like my Velotric Discover 2?
@RunBikeMike7 ай бұрын
These are great questions. I will test the tracking tomorrow and let you know. This one doesn't seem to have cruse control from what I can see. I will get with Velotric to see if that is something they are going to add via software.

@@RunBikeMike You asked, here it is: Mine Arrived Broken! I received my Summit 1 this past Friday. I ordered the bike along with a tilting stem and a half twist throttle. While I was unpacking, it I noticed damage to the front wheel (rim) in the form of deep scratches/dent about the size of a quarter. I assembled anyways, without the aforementioned extras, anticipating that Velotric would stand behind their products, since the Discover 2 that I had purchased just 2 weeks earlier arrived intact and their customer service seemed good. I charged it and took it for a spin. I stopped for a break and when I went to use the throttle, I no longer had power from the motor although the battery was at 81%. I am pretty comfortable around bikes having worked at 3 different bike stores as a teenager and early 20’s, as well as with electronics as an adult. After checking and rechecking all wires and connections I noticed that the brake light stayed on. I knew that the bike was not giving me power because the brakes override the motor. I adjusted the silver set screw located inside the rear brake lever and bingo, I had power back. My battery is also not reaching 100% capacity and the charger light stays red and won’t turn green no matter how long I leave the battery charging. I am talking overnight here and have put it through several charge cycles. So here are the problems I had so far: 1) Damaged rim. Solution: I contacted Velotric and they offered me a $40 refund. An insult! I contacted the again and they agreed to send a new replacement wheel. They should have done that from the start! confirmation that it has been shipped. 2) Motor suddenly lost motor power. Solution: I fixed it myself because Velotric cannot be contacted on weekends. 3) The stem that I purchased was missing the top screw and the head of the bike’s original top screw was too large in diameter and would not fit the stem’s hole. The stem’s vertical hole was drilled too small. Solution: Luckily, I had spare Allen bolts around or the stem would have been useless, so I kept it. I had to mechanically reduce the size of the bolt's head to get it to fit in the hole. Most people would have given up. 4) The half twist throttle’s wire plug does not fit into the bike’s existing wire (different diameter)- solution: Waiting for Velotric to respond after they requested pictures of the box, Fedex label and UPC code. Luckily, I kept them. Currently waiting for Velotric to respond again. 5) Battery not charging to 100%. Solution: I contacted Velotric and they asked for pictures of the battery, charger light showing red and the display screen showing the battery’s charge percentage. Still waiting for a response. Summary: I had a great experience with the first bike (Discover 2) that I ordered from Velotric, so I decided to buy as second. The second experience has not been anywhere near the first. Quality control seems to be an issue, as well as less than desirable customer service. I just can’t get over the $40 offer for the damaged rim. I am a repeat customer, I bought a brand-new bike and expect nothing less than a “fully functional and undamaged product” and don’t believe that it is reasonable, at least not for me, to receive such an offer and have to look/live with the damage for the life of the bike. I like Velotric and understand that “things happen”, but this involved "one too many" problems that would have been a real challenge for the average buyer without a mechanical and electronic background and a lot of patience, and they would likely be stuck with a non-functional bike at the moment. I really hope that Velotric improves their quality control and customer service. So far, I feel as if rectification of the problems has become an act of congress and have taken up a lot of my time, which I would prefer to spend having fun instead. I will update when all the issues are all hopefully resolved with more favorable comments and thank you for reading my “venting”. In the meantime, proceed with caution if you are considering a Summit 1.
