Thank you for the videos and we love them so much and they are very helpful for us to plan our upcoming trip to Japan in June. However, I have couple questions about the Mobal eSIM; I tried to make a purchase but I can't create an account before making the purchase, is that normal that I can create an account after order made? Also, am I also qualify to get the 1000yen credit for my first monthly bill too? Again, thank you so much for your help,

Thank you for this info. Your Japan travel hacks are always useful and clearly presented. My question is regarding some US travel credit cards that require two factor security authentication using text messages to your US phone number only when making purchases online in Japan. They don’t use email. Is there a way to use the temporary Japanese cell number to receive those authentication texts from the credit card company?
@KenshoQuest
@KenshoQuest 9 ай бұрын
Hi, great question! I do not know if this is possible. However, we get around this by also using Google-Fi. We use them exclusively to be able to receive texts, mainly 2FA as you mentioned from the USA. It costs about $20/month if you don't use data and you can cancel anytime. And since your phone is eSIM compatible you can have several eSIMS at once. I hope this helps!

Are there any other differences other than the length of time it can be used?
@KenshoQuest
@KenshoQuest 17 күн бұрын
Hi, they have updated their plans. If you are only visiting short term ( less than 90 days ) then the short term plan will work best for you since it is meant up to 90 days. The plans themselves are the same. Just different rates based on length. All you need to do is choose the short term length that works best for you. No more needing to cancel since they now have term limits.

It shouldn't be an issue. I used to do this on my older phone. Also, you can cancel the monthly plan as soon as your trip is over. There are no cancellation fees. Have Google Fi (Pixel 8) but do have an extra phone that I can bring. Based on the video the only things I think getting I'd get are local number which would be helpful for shipping packages but given that I do not speak Japanese I don't think I could say make reservations at a resteraunt. Does this seem about right to anyone else or would it be a good backup for Google Fi? Any other thoughts?

Hi, great questions. For restaurant reservations a surprising amount of the popular restaurants have some english speaking staff :). And also, we use Google Fi as a backup, always. You can also use it to call emergency numbers in Japan. I should have mentioned that in the video.

@@KenshoQuest You and your wife's videos are deeply insightful. I knew I had a fair amount of planning left but the two of you throw so many things out there I keep re-examining things! Going toward the end of Golden Week (and after) and had decided to go with the Green JR Pass as I wanted to make reservations and get on trains but your wife's video on Hokuriku Arch Pass sure has me thinking I can easily save $200-$300 per person and see more things we would enjoy.

@@jeffboyd9301 thanks! yes, the Hokuriku area is amazing, especially if you want to see a side of Japan that has a fraction of the tourists compared to Kyoto/Osaka and incredibly beautiful. Let us know if you have any specific questions about the Hokuriku Arch Pass or areas. We have more to come on that too!

@@KenshoQuest if you got that kind of power that'd be awesome. I'm planning my trip for March it would totally sign up for them if I get a mobile number with 15 gigs of data. But having to have an ESiM plus a regular SIM that's just adds unnecessary complication in my opinion. Love your videos. They've been very helpful!

@@Kaaru5344 hah, I don't know about power, but i can ask. I forgot to mention that if you purchase in the middle of the month, you could get up to 14GB because it resets on the first of the month, regardless of when your plan started.

So I heard back from Mobal. Instead of purchasing the short-term plan you can choose a long-term plan instead! The reason this will work is because you can cancel your plan at any time without a penalty :)

Okay, I will not actually be visiting Japan (really wish I were though), but I would really like to get a Japanese phone number, if that is possible. Here is the reason why. I have been using this 3rd party Proxy Buying service, to have them order a product in Japan, and then have that 3rd party ship the item to me in the USA. The only problem is that the 3rd party buying services are unwilling to ask the seller questions for me. So, if I could somehow get a Japanese phone number, then I could sign up for websites like Mercari Japan, and ask the seller a question myself, that I need to ask about the item. Seems like this eSim card idea would not work for me, due to the card (actually code) needing to be picked up in person. Bummer. Wish there were some way to get a Japanese phone number, to receive texts. That is all I really need. I would be so grateful for any ideas about this. Thanks a lot.

Hi, we've been thinking about this but cannot think of anyway for you to get around this since Japan has some pretty strict rules about getting a Japanese number.
@justinbryson352

@@KenshoQuest Thanks for your reply. I was hoping there might be a way. I mean, all I wish to do is be able to ask the sellers questions, and I can use a Translator to do that. I was hoping there might be an SMS service like Textnow for example, which gives you a free US Phone number. I would not mind paying for a phone number either. If I could, I would just order a Japanese phone, with a SIM card from Japan, and just use it to text questions on places like Mercari Japan, and Yahoo Japan auctions. I understand that is probably not possible though. Love Japanese products so much. It is such an interesting country, with its history, and everything.
