Coyotes are very smart and wiley. I had a trapper that worked my property for coyotes years back. He took every precaution to keep his scent away from his traps. When he pulled up on his traps to check them, he would roll out a tarp on the ground before even stepping out of his truck. He used rubber gloves while handling the traps and bait.

suggestion for the metal trap. make a wire box for the area where the bait box goes. this way you have no accidental escapes in the future. do not use chicken wire though. use a much heavier gauge wire. i have seen the wild critters chew thru the chicken wire

Everyone was saying, "Uh no that's not a fox" It's a wonder they didn't get attacked. Crazy!

Founder ( laminitis) is an inflammation of the inner layers of the hoofs, ( the laminae) in extreme cases, it can cause the coffin bone, ( a crescent shaped bone, that is one of the main bones of the foot) to rotate downward, and penetrate the sole of the foot, crippling the animal, while the causes of founder are many, eating too much green grass is one of them.

Our DNR says that you must relocate raccoons at least 30 miles away, or the same one will be back within 3 days. I caught two 30lb plus coons in one night in the same live trap, only took them 5 miles for release, they were both back the next day, you ask how I know they were the same two, I put spray paint on their tails. If me I would have permanently removed the raccoon. And yes mini's are prone to founder on the new sweet spring grass. We even started our big horses on spring grass the same way, a hour or two each day for 4-5 days then added a hour or two every 4-5 days we also mowed the spring grass down once it was 8-12" tall to help get rid of the higher sugar content in that grass to help prevent the founder and possible colic issues (gas buildup). They will for sure the extra room to run around. Be sure they know what the hot wire is (we would wet their faces and make them touch the fence so they know what it was (wire electric fence with strips of cloth tied around it so they could see where it was).

Awe... The one that got away. It probably won't fall for the trap again, unfortunately. All night in a metal cage with a pooping chicken is an experience & smell it won't soon forget. And unless you see it or its tracks around your hen house, I wouldn't worry about the animal too much. But if you start finding broken eaten eggs, which racoons love, then do what you think is best. Right now it might be better to focus on catching the critter that's been so stealthily carrying your chickens away. Before they're all gone. (My mom once lost 11 chickens in 6 weeks to a very sneaky feral house cat. Picked off, one by one. So, you can imagine what a big bobcat can do.🍴😼 )

Dutch always has his "pew- pew" on him. You just can't see it in his holster under his T-shirt.

To catch a coyote you can use fox urine around the trap to catch it.

Hopefully the cat doesn’t go back and eats the rotten meat. I would not allow the raccoon to walk. They go after chicken peacocks and any small animals. Good luck on catching Cody andBob the large cat. 😊🙏🏼

not if u keep touching all the branches around the trap so set it up so u dont have to touch anything but the top to change out the chickens n actually if u had no branches around it the predictors will see the chicken n go after it.

I caught your video and heard the electric fence for. Minis. I’ve owned horses for years. A small pen is nice. Grass digests in their digestive track differently. Laminitis comes in many forms. Founder is severe. You can also invest in grazing muzzles. My horse wears one on a small grass area even if for a few minutes as he is insulin resistant. If I remember correctly there is also 52 plants that are toxic to horses. Horses will eat grass by the roots. So rotation is great. I’ve read storeys guide to feeding horses very good read. You are doing great on your channel. God bless.

You'll have to dispatch him, they will return to reek havoc until. I've driven them 2-3 miles and released them, and they find their way back. There's more than just him as a predator though, keep the traps out, there will be more. Love ya'll ❤️

Made a mistake and didn't close the door on the coop so Lost our flock of chickens one night to a raccoon. And they have lots of babies. We've trapped 12 of them in the last 2 years. At first we relocated them, then started dispatching them. Not so easy as we live in town.

The strange beetle near the trap is called a Carrion Beetle. (Source: Google Lens) That would explain why they were all over the raw chicken.
