I spend almost 100% of my filmmaking time making motorcycle videos. You did a really nice job explaining this for new people that don’t do this as often as we do. I thought you laid out everything very clearly and the cinematography was close to perfect. I also liked your philosophical musings at the end about cameras and motorcycles, and the reason that we like both of them so much. Only thing I would’ve added is that there is also a definite safety factor when you are working with drones and solo filming on a motorcycle. Even if it is just static shots, you also need to reserve a percentage of your brain for riding safely. That’s why I shoot everything in auto as well. Hats off to you!

You fooled me on the 2 static shots in this video where you cropped in. I really thought you had the quad moving ever so slightly. So thanks for clearing that up. I like the idea of the tape on the ground too in order to know precisely where you are setup for that shot. Another masterclass from you. If we ever meetup, I'll take you out for lunch. Thanks Ted, you know I have been riding for over 50 years and have gone back to simple bikes, recently I have become involved in videoing and have gotten dragged into more and more gear, you have just made me realise that I’ve got everything I need, a drone ( mini 3) an action camera ( DJI Osmo 3) and a camera (Fuji XT3) I just need to practice and refine the art, thanks Ted, you are one of the few people on KZbin who encourages practice rather than telling you what gear you need. @@TedNemeth hi Ted I’ve a Triumph Bonneville 900 speed twin and a Royal Enfield Meteor 350, I’ve always had a passion for photography but recently have gotten into video and it’s something that I can combine with my passion for motorcycles, I know what I want to create but I’m struggling to get it on film , I’m sure you know what I mean, I’ll get there eventually, I’ve no excuse, I’ve the gear, the bikes and the locations ( I live in the highland’s of Scotland) you have been such a great help with your insight, enthusiasm and experience, keep up the good work buddy, it’s much appreciated 👍

Good effort lad filming bike rides is very tricky especially in a rolling group on the fly trying to get ahead with sufficient time to execute drone activity and get useful shots practice makes perfect great tips bro hope your well ride safe cheers

hey Josh. Thanks my friend. Yup i live next to the beach so I’m filming at the water constantly. I tested a PL filter many times and definitely found it was not worth having to mess with it. For me, it didn’t add to the cinematography & composition & storytelling of the scene. It was just another piece of gear getting in the way of thinking about the important stuff.

Yes most videos that are “ 0:01 motorcycle adventures “ are pretty weak. They will go to Sturgis and it’s “ woo hoo Sturgis ! “ the most interesting thing about it are the characters. I noticed that most of your videos are shot in 16:9 and when you do tighter shots, it looks like you just crop in a bit It seems to give it much more of a dynamic feel One of the challenges I am finding is if I use drone footage, GoPro footage and still photos very often they are all different sizes such as 4:3 or 3:2 if I add some still add images. The next challenge, then is if I try to color grade, it adds an additional challenge. I can use D log but that can be a lot of work. I am considering shooting in HLG video looks pretty good right out of the camera. One of the impressive things about your videos is your audio quality is always excellent. That is the first thing I noticed.

@3:20 Smashing Shot!! The cut @3:25 ... wonder what that might look like if you didn't just drop the camera height, but also introduced a far greater degree in camera angle to the subject from the angle to the subject of the drone shot, if you look at the change in angle @3:31 when you change both the camera height (back up to the drone) and the camera angle to the subject, you get back that exciting visual pace. Just a thought! Such a great edit!! So glad i found your channel. I do a lot of motorbike filming and your channel is the first i've seen express the thought process so well. Thrilled i found this channel!

Very informative. Thanks. Unfortunately here in the UK, the CAA rules state that you must maintain a constant Visual Line Of Sight - VLOS - at all times with your drone. This means I wouldn't be able to capture those scenes with me mobile on my motorcycle. Only static shots for us :(

What a great video!!! I have the bike(s) and the drone, and an old D3100 Nikon (with 18-55mm F3.5-5.6 lens?) that doesn't shoot video in 4k. Any suggestions on a camera that doesn't cost over $2k like the one you use? I just can't justify that kind of money while I try to get better at this stuff.....especially for my extremely small channel. I guess I could always try using it in 1080, but I'm curious what recommendations you might have for something in the $1k range?
