Vice Grip Garage

Күн бұрын

The 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu that was previously for sale sold to a nice guy overseas. I need to put a few finishing touches on this old classic car before we send it off. Plus, we'll attempt a first start in quite some time as it literally has just sat in my garage for years. Hopefully it runs just as good as it used to! Of course, I'll have to blow the cobwebs out of her.

When I was a wee lad in the 50's an old time mechanic showed me how to clean axdirty carb and enjine. He would rev the engine at half throttle and pour a quart of kerosene down the carb. When the can was as most empty he would dump the remainder in quickly and shut it down. After sitting a bit he would start it up and it would run much better.

@@ViceGripGarage We call em Wobbly Pops here in Ontario, buddy actually had a bar called Wobbly Pops in West Hill - Scarborough Ontario. It's like zee and zed, we're all just semi retarded brothers from different semi retarded fathers. As a sidenote, I saw the prettiest star filled sky one night driving through Northern Minnesota, got outta the Jeep Comanche Tank to make room for another "pop", looked up and boom, what a site. Thanks for the laughs, my buddy had this exact same car, memories, ya gotta love this stuff, it's our lives. We northerners are all alike, damn it was cold that starry night, about as sub zero as it is here in Coboconk Ontario right now. Cheers !

Hey Derrick, I love your videos! I’ve gotten a lot of good laughs watching them. I got my first car at 17yrs old in 1985 for $350. It was a 68 Cutlass supreme with a 350 rocket engine and a powerglide transmission. It needed too much work for a young kid with no money or mechanic skills, and I had no place to keep it, so I was forced to sell it. I’d love to see you find one and resurrect it and fix it up a little. I would definitely be interested in purchasing such a vehicle. That would be a dream come true! Keep up the good work, you’re awesome!

We had a 1970 Chevelle station wagon when I was a young child, it had the "Mark of Excellence" thingamajig on it. Same color as yours. Concours trim, 350 2 barrel, marked 250 HP on the air cleaner but I doubt it. Spent a lot of Saturdays watching my dad wrench on it, and even twisting a few wrenches. I'd like to have it back. My parents sold it for $600 in 1981, had about 140,000 miles on it. They looked at trading it in, most of the dealers were only offering $200-$250 for it despite the fact it was a good running and driving station wagon. Gas was just really expensive in the 79-81 days and people with V8s were trading for 4 cyl cars like crazy, at least in Oregon where I grew up.

Hey, Derek! I actually went to Minot back in 1978 to see the total eclipse of the sun. We were camped out at a Holiday Inn next to the "Minot International Airport" and storm door company. I don't remember much about the eclipse, except it got dark and when it did, I heard dogs in the distance howling. But I do remember driving down some highway with snow piled up so high, it looked like a tunnel without a top.

Love your channel! Edelbrock Carbs love insulators. At 180 degrees our fuel starts to boil in the float bowl without an insulator, which is why it is dry when you let it sit. If you run a electric fuel pump and let it fill the carb and then crank on it, it should fire right off.
