I hand walked my 2 year old everywhere! Through neighborhoods, up in the woods and then with saddle on. He was exposed to traffic on roads, then to bicyclists and walkers appearing unexpectedly on the trails. By the time I rode him he was desensitized to many things. It helped us bond too. Very valuable in training.

Dodger is a good horse. Quarter horses are working horses bred for ranch and working cattle. This is a steady, quiet, very intelligent horse, willing to do whatever you ask. I grew up on quarter horses and love the breed. I believe that somewhere in his life someone abused him in a barn setting and he is fearful they will do it again. Dodger is very smart and will do anything you want but his rider needs to be firm and consistent. You are the best person at the right time for him. He will probably always need an experienced rider because he will take over from a beginner. You two were lucky to find each other. And hey to Kyle for the good camera work!

Once he realizes he isn't going into past traumas from his other owners, plus no longer having pain issues in his mouth, not feeling well, he's going to be a great horse. Plus more gentle hands, and NO bit. He's living his true life now. Thank you for saving another horse, who is far away from a throw-away horse, because of past owners. Love what you do, Shae! Makes sense, our rescue once got a quarter horse that was also sort of abandoned in a stall for a very long period, he got basic care maintenance but zero mental relief. And when we got him, he would lose his ever loving shxt if you tried to walk away and leave him in a stall after that. But he was fine getting left in an outdoor enclosure where he could see around him. He just had terror of being alone in a stall, poor guy. Sweet natured horse too, never agressive, but he could run in reverse very quickly if something was too much for him. Still he'd be careful not to injure anyone while making his escape, never ran over anyone or kicked or bit ever, main danger was if you had the lead rope and got your arm yanked by his direction change, he could be there one second and gone the next, especially at first before he learned to trust us more.

I love Dodger. He reminds me of my special Arabian Tamarack who was terribly abused by bullies before I got him. He had PTS and it took him years to stop remembering beatings being tied up. He was my baby and I was his only rider after I bought him. Golden buckskin, if I were young again ...I would love you forever..Now I will just pray for the most loving new family when the time comes. Thank you Shae, you bring back good memories of my Tam, who lived out his life being loved. With open spaces, mountain trails to walk, cattle drives to race across fields and a horse family to share the hills and fields with. Geez, and I thought I had stopped crying. I guess not.

One last thing, I agree with you about how it could be anything about the barn that makes him nervous, but also, spending months in a stall all those years ago definitely wouldn’t help. Thank you, Shae. I love how you explain everything to your viewers about your horses, your mission, and your process. It totally makes sense that once you have helped specific horses develop through love, training consistency, and devoted care, you eventually will find them another home (perhaps a forever home in Dodger's case and age), where they can experience a special bond with a new owner. In this way, you are able to continue helping more horses who will immensely benefit from your attentive care and training approach. We already know that Lightning is a leased horse, and that Jiminy, Lumiere, Bagheera, and Belle (and perhaps Esmeralda) are staying with you forever, so you will need to sell the others eventually in order to have room to help more horses. Of course, it isn't easy to let any of them go, but you are thinking of what's best for each horse. The important thing, too, as you have shown us with Mushu (and others), is that you are patient and very careful in finding the right home for the horses you eventually part with. Kudos to you! ❤

I just find so much healing watching your love and kind interaction with these beautiful gifts from the Angelic Realm. Thank you. I had to sell my Arabians because I moved and money etc. I somehow can stop my tears because I watch your love

I didn't vote in the color choices for tack. So, here it is. I like the neutral colors, white, tan, gold. I like the pad you have on today, it has neutral colors. He so wants a job! He's a cutie!

Dodger is one of your gems in the making! I like horses that test you; shows they are smart and communicating with you. Fast learner! Plus a sweety! ❤❤

He is a very misunderstood boy. He was locked in a stall so I think that may be why he gets nervous about the barn so much. He is so beautiful and kind. Stick with it and he may turn out to be one of the best.

You are amazing Shay. He’s gonna love you just like all your horses you take that time you have that connection and they know that they feel it. Your energy is amazing with your beautiful gorgeous horses that you saved. God bless you and Kyle.❤

I’m in love with this horse and his journey!! Also that saddle pad and saddle looked so gorgeous on him today. 👌✨ Slay Shae. Slay. 💅 Love your approach to training. Very encouraging and inspiring for people like myself who want to get back into the horse world.

He's a handsome boy with unique white markings. I'm glad you got him because I know he will be well taken care of and that you're just what he needs to work through his issues and be his best. Thank you Shae & Kyle for all you do.

I seen someone had already said it but I was gonna say the same about his story about the barn. He will know soon that you do the absolute opposite and will never keep him locked up in a stall! I love your gentle kindness to your horses! ❤ Dodger is such a smart sweet boy!

I love your other horses but Dodger is the one that has stolen my heart. If I could ever ride one of your horses he’d be the one. I’m so glad you’re his soft place to land. He’s doing great with you. You are just the right human to make his place in this world so much better.❤️🐴🤗😊

I love Dodger, his confirmation, his head carriage. He looks amazing! I think he's got a few bad habits that he's gotten away with, so he does require someone like you to make him accountable. Once he understands what is expected of him, he's going to be even more awesome than he is! So glad he has you!

I totally agree. Once he gets his "newbie anxieties" worked out, he will be a kind and intelligent mount. Figure 8s and poles, obstacle courses, lots of stuff to work his brain as well as his body, and he will be a happy boi! He already looks healthier and a bit more settled today. ❤❤❤

I just love how you handle Dodger. I think you are the perfect person to help him. He does seem sweet but a little insecure - so looking forward to his progress!

Hey Shae and Kyle....the only thing I can say about Dodger is he's the most handsome horse, his face is absolutely majestic and his confirmation and color is to die for. What is there more to say??? I love this horse and everything about him. Best of luck with his training, he'll come around. Knowing his background is very shady makes everyday a challenge but good challenges. Trust challenges and territory challenges will be the hardest but the most rewarding. I can't wait to see how his journey progresses. Have a Happy New Year you two 🍾🥂 thank you for everything❤️💚🎄🐎
