You would have enjoyed knowing one of my customers from back in the 80s, who at one time had a Lincoln coupe and roadster for every year from 1932 - 46. I personally worked on his 1939 Lincoln Zephyr 2 door sedan when he brought it out of storage to use. I put a dual carb intake manifold on it for him and I even got to "test drive" it with him. The old V12s were extremely smooth, though not very powerful. Some of his cars had be converted to later V8s, Chrysler hemi, Corvette 327, early Ford Yblock 312, etc. He also collected Nash Metropolitans and left me one in his will. There were several parts cars and a garage bay full of parts that I couldn't take as I was moving out of state. The second floor of his barn was loaded with piles of Lincoln parts of all kinds. His name was Doc Barrows. He was a member of the Lincoln club of America. Great old gentleman with a truly unique collection of cars. Oh, I didn't mention that his daily driver was a 64 Studebaker Lark...

1977 everyday after school my friend and I went to his dads business. There we helped his dad and in the process learned how to restore a 39 FORD De Lux. The Lincoln Zephyr was our dream car. The 39 is still winning concours de’Elegance at car show’s. My friend has restored 4 Classic Mustangs and many more Fords and Chevy’s etc. Revamped and modernised 1 Mustang. It’s his hobby.

Great find, and so close to home as well... That must have been a long time love for the previous owner, to have collected all that history with the car. LOL I love the ole flat head v 12's their beautiful looking Engines. You scored with Norm being the guy who took care of this car over the years. His meticulous discipline in being organized and keeping as you said even the rusted old parts. All of that is such a score most folks don't keep that kind of diligence in storing all those parts, even to have the parts alone is saving you a bundle. As I said, you scored man. Congrats...you deserve it, you've done all the hard work to get to where your at, I excited to come along on the journey with you.

To my knowledge I have never seen one of these, but around a third of the way through the video, I was beguiled! The image of the front end as it was on the (really nice) trailer was the bit that finally hooked me, yup! I was captivated by that gorgeous style - And what style it has! The seller clearly loved his car, and had accepted the reality that he was never going to be able to do it justice, and so he passed it on to the man whom would! Having seen your artistry with metal, there isn't anything that you can't do with this to make it just how you want, the seller recognised that too! I think it's in very good condition and is well worth your investment. How fortunate that we'll get to see you bring this car to life, I'm really happy for you that you got the car of your dreams, it's lucky to find itself in your hands. If car's could speak, this one would be pretty stoked at what lies ahead...

Thank you man I am so grateful to have the opportunity to get this car of my dreams. I even had a friend asked me “is this really the car of your dreams you never speak of it! “ That is how out of reach I imagined this car would be. So for these circumstances to come about I am speechless. It’s always been one of my favourite cars but for the rarity and the price tag I figured it would be many years until I could afford one

Congratulations on a great find! My dad used to tell me stories about the Lincoln Zephyr he owned back in the late 40's-1950's...in Japan! Imagine trying to make it around the tiny streets of Yokohama in one of those! One of his favourite stories was about the tendency of those alloy heads to suddenly "lose" a spark plug, which would go flying up into the hood, making an egg-shaped bump...

Hello I found your channel a few days ago and looking back on your channel I found this one about the 1939 Zephyr. Our shop weeks ago received a 1939 Zephyr coupe from another shop. This is a full restoration back to original. It is all dismantled it was painted but we are going back to zero. While we have no extra parts what we do have and can share with you is "MATH" ! Our car is apart and I can take pictures and measure the whole car. You mentioned in your video about extending the doors and making the quarters to make it a coupe. We have a complete car and if you tell me what you need I can take pictures and take measurements for you. Adrian Killer Hot Rods Arlington, TX

Nice car and I can relate since I helped my friend who is a purist and has a 39 Pontiac 4 door. The lines are cool too but, your car is cooler and looks very clean just like my friends rust free 39. It's a shame you want to cut it up but you have your dreams and it's your dream. What would be cooler and a bigger challenge since you have the perfect form is to model off your car, you make your own body and copy everything then make what you want. Good luck with your project you are very talented and lucky because you can tell by your smile. You look really happy on this find!

Yea I should have bid higher even though it only came with a bill of sale. The farmer that had it had passed away,and had no family. He had purchased the car in the sixtes in Southern California. It was an old street rod with the V12 and original running gear. Hi had about a 10 inch white lightening bolt, hand painted on the front fenders just behind the front wheels. It was killer!!! My brother owned a 39 Ford back in the 60s he went to college and I was only 13 but I would drive it around a little bit before mom and dad got home from work. He sold it to a friend of his who’s brother I was best friends with. My friend sold it to someone and not telling me. I had asked him to keep it in the family and all he got was three $400 in 1970! Now that was a classic look.

Edsel Ford designed the front end , grille/headlight area , of the Zephyr . Edsel also designed the 1939 Ford and Mercury front end , that’s why they are so similar .

43 years ago my dad, brother and I were looking for a Ford project. The first sniff was a ‘29 Plymouth. Not quite right. Next up we went to check out a Lincoln Zepyhr coupe. As a 15 year old I knew that this was it. I was shocked at how tiny the pistons were, they looked like tomato paste cans. It was a project for sure. Dad walked away from it. I pouted for weeks. I was not happy that dad dragged home a ‘39 Ford sedan months later. I’ll never forget that Zephyr sitting in that bank barn. Never. I hope it found a good home.

@@MakeItKustom It was a ‘39 or a ‘40. Literally just facing the barn doors when they were opened. The car was green. The block had no heads and you could see the cylinders. It was magical. For me. My dad didn’t get it. I think about that car a lot. Sadly we would have been the wrong buyers. It deserved someone who could restore it to it’s proper glory!

A man here in Stillwater Minnesota used to have a body shop. He has a late 1930’s Lincoln Zephyr and it looks really good. His needed a new trunk floor and they are extremely hard piece to find. Lookup auction prices for 1930’s Lincoln Zephyr but sit down first as they can sell for much more than 1960’s muscle cars.
@MakeItKustom

Yea I’m well aware of the prices and even more aware of how lucky I am to get this one in the shape it’s in. Some I’ve seen (convertibles) hit near 400k usd just crazy!

Just found this channel, and it’s so awesome! I’ve got a 1939 Chevy pickup my grandfather left me, his dad bought it used in 41 at the local Chevrolet dealer. I plan to build it pretty soon but have no idea witch direction to go. I don’t wanna cut up a virgin 39 pickup. But I also don’t want to throw a v8 in a 39 pickup and call it done lol. I never liked hydraulics or low riders but that’s definitely growing on me. At this point I realize I just need to watch and learn some more ha. Awesome content though man! Watching from Georgia, USA

Right on Cody! You own my favourite track of all time. I’ve been dreaming of a 39 Chevrolet since I first saw one. The lines on that pick up our amazing the grill is perfect. I like them done more like a bomb. Low and all the extra chrome goodies

I believe they produced some fibreglass Zephyr 3 Window Coupe bodies, so you might be able to source a fibreglass deck lid. If not, a 39,40 Coupe deck lid is another option. I remember I guy over here built a 39 Willys Gasser coupe out of a sedan and used a glass deck lid for the base.
@MakeItKustom
@MakeItKustom 3 жыл бұрын
Yes they definitely did! And they still do produce those bodies. There won’t be any fibreglass in this car but I appreciate the idea. I’m going to push myself to make everything from steel hand formed
