I don’t understand why card grading companies don’t have metrics they can enter into their platforms that explain the grading of a card. Tying those metrics to the serial number that’s designated to the card would be so helpful to collectors and traders. Would also clear up any room for shenanigans.

Yeah, great idea, so we can wait 3 years instead of 1 to get our cards back? That would cause the back log to take 4x longer and would totally expose how stupid grading is

@@nicklabrec6859 lol sorry if I upset you. If there was a standard entry method, it would simply add a few additional clicks in entering the card into the database. When people pay $150-300 to get a card graded, usually it's because they think it's a 9 or a 10 (unless it's extremely old). With no clarification as to why we get below that, it causes consumers to become skeptical. You have to wonder if those grading your cards hold cards in their own collection that are similar to yours. This would decentivize handing out good grades. Zero justification or accountability for a grade makes this easier.

The Elway was harsh with that grade. Honestly I would say a 8. Off centered front and back. SGC will get you on centering to include the back as much as the front.

I have a theory about vintage grades. Since there are so many new graders and freshly trained graders. Makes me curious if the companies are teaching the quality differences of pack fresh cards from say the 80's compared to todays cards. Centering is easy but edges and corners and even surface have improved drastically in newer cards. Think about looking at and grading 250 ultra modern cards then a card like that 1984 Elway rookie comes to you to be graded. Even though the Elway is possibly pack fresh and top notch condition for the era it's not going to look near as good as most any ultra modern card. It also seems for any grade point deduction off of an ultra modern card they double that deduction if it is a vintage card. Just my thoughts!

I don't know about Elway, but those SGC 8.5 & 9 's clearly display centering and surface issues. Surface issues such as dimples and printer lines are almost always overlooked. Great cards never the less. I'm sure you will find those on budgets willing to snag them from you. Nothing beats a slab ! Thanks for sharing.

The Elway must have some type of a slight crease or some type of imperfection like that. SGC also has a machine they use (I don't know if they use it on every card, or only vintage noteworthy cards like the Elway) but it scans for surface creases and imperfections that CAN'T be seen with the naked eye. This may be what got you on this one. It's pretty crazy how it will show serious damage that you just can't see with even a loupe. The Elway looks closer to a 6 to me, but it's too hard to really give anything too accurate without having a card in hand.

I just got 12 back today been getting 3-5 10s per 12 I send in got 1 10, 2-9.5, 4-9 rest 8-8.5. there was 5 pre 2000 card the best most $$ was a 97-98 metal MJ as a 9. Luv videos much respect sir

SGC grader definitely favors soccer. The dark borders on all those Greenwoods and not one had a flaw. LoL. Actually all the soccer cards were 10’s. Seems like all the big basketball cards submitted had strict grading. The Luka, Trae, etc were graded harsh. I learned one thing to send all soccer to SGC.

It isn't easy to get a Gold Label with SGC, it really needs more respect in the hobby. I know they currently sell over PSA 10's, and significantly higher than PSA depending on the card, but Black Labels are still the most valuable.
