#Nava The best way to mix a can of paint is with a cordless drill and a paint Mixing Paddle that you can attach to a drill, just ask at the paint store, usually about $5.00. And get some premixed cornice adhesive to trowel up some of those larger holes. Because it dry's quick and is easy to sand. And use a thicker nap roller but watch the splatter if u roll with a fast action, it will cover u in dot's. Ps. youtube can show you how to do anything u just have to search ! Love u ;-)

Praying for your brother Nave. I know motorcycles are so much fun and boys love them. I’ve unfortunately lost 3 first cousins on them. Two to no fault of theirs. One hit by an 18 wheeler. That was the truck drivers fault and a hit and run. He had State Troopers chasing him over 200 miles into the Texas Panhandle till caught. The other cousin had a woman run a stop sign. The 3rd one was my cousin and his friends stupidity. He and his best friend were great riders and reckless. They rode Enduro races and were both winners. Of all places they were in the alley beside the house and one at each end of the alley and decided to play chicken running head on full speed to see who would turn first. Neither. Both unconscious and not found for a few minutes. My cousins foot was severed and he bled out before he ambulance got there. His friend recovered from the crash but never from the accident. My hubby bought one at 45 after riding all his life until 10 years before. He wiped out twice, bad. Fractured scapula (hardest bone in the human body). Multiple fractured ribs, punctured lung all while wearing full safety gear. You guys be careful and I pray your brothers surgery goes well.

Tip for the future: when standing on a chair, place the back towards the wall. If you lose your balance, you will have a better chance to be able to just hop down, otherwise you will get caught on the chairs back and tip it over, possibly getting your foot stuck in it. Trust me, I know! :D

@@NavexCole Tell the paint guy that you are painting a rough brick wall and he will get you a really rough nap roller pad. @@NavexCole ON the package of the roller cover they will be 1/4" nap 3/8" nap 1/2" nap and 3/4" nap this is the thickness of the roller cover nap or where you put the paint on. I grew up in an old home, older than Cole's house. It had the original stone masonry walls in the basement. To keep the moisture from coming through the stone/brick walls, you need to use a waterproof primer, like Kilz, as a moisture barrier first before you paint. Otherwise, the moisture will continue to come through the paint, cause it to bubble and crack and allow mold or mildew to seep through. A thicker knap roller brush will help to push the primer/paint into the cracks and fissures in the wall and provide much better coverage.

Prayers for your brother. Yes this is a space that would be better sprayed. A few tips, the roller just pushes on you don’t need to screw it. The plastic trays you are using are liner you should have it sitting in a metal paint tray, also just pour the paint into the tray or small bucket to paint the walls, use a bigger brush you could use a 3-4 inch brush for sure and load it up with paint and pounce it into those cracks and holes. You are doing a great job and the end results will be beautiful. Also always ask the paint store to shake your paint for you and they will give you a paint key (opener) for your can as well as stir sticks.

Praying for your brother. May the surgery go well and he heals quickly. I’ve been reading all the “painting” suggestions given to you. They sound good. Just remember when you are doing concrete block you will always use way more then what you think. New block or bare concrete block will suck up paint just like when you are priming drywall. SO always add more to what you think to be safe.

Once you get in all the cracks and add more coats of paint it looks much better, the first coat always looks patchy. (I am no professional painter, but have painted about half of the house I am living in with my husband and his family, the other half to go! It was bright GREEN to start with - why we are painting!) A good trick I learnt to stir paint is to get a metal paint stirrer that you can attach to a drill - SO much easier! Try not to doubt yourself so much. You did great! You've got this girl! I hope your brother is ok. Some things to consider for your painting: have them shake the paint at the store and then shake it with the lid on before you use. The store should give you a tool to open the can if you ask. As someone else said, see if they sell it in larger containers. Use a rollernwith a fluffy nap, oike one labeled for stucco. Use a ladle to scoop paint out of the container. You can just peel off the paint when it's dry. It's kind of cool. You're doing a great job. Keep up the good work.

Looks like you've gotten a lot of advice. If you are painting a large area where you will use several gallons of paint (but less than 5 gallons - if using 5 gallons get the 5 gallon buckets) get one of those 5 gallon buckets with the lid on it. Put a garbage bag in the can (hang the edges of the bag over the outside edge like you'd put the bag in a garbage can), pour in all the gallons of paint and mix them together. That will prevent any variation in the color between gallons and ensure an even coat. Get a roller screen that hangs onto the edge of the bucket into the bucket and you won't need a paint tray. Just dip your roller in the bucket, roll it on the roller screen and you're ready to go. If you need to stop, put the lid on the 5 gallon bucket to keep the paint from drying out. When you're done you can store left over paint on one of the gallon buckets - the garbage bag lets you pour it into the can, or store it in the bag, and as a bonus it makes clean up easy since the bucket will still be clean. Hope your brother is ok.

Get a solid paint tray and with a shopping bag turned inside out so there is not colour transfer, slide the tray inside it and tie the handles to the feet of the tray. Then when you are done painting you can pull bag off and through into garbage or use it to cover roller so it doesn't dry out.

Always get it shaken at the store when you buy it. If it sits before using it, it will begin to separate. As long as the top is completely closed, you can store the cans upside down. It makes stirring much easier. There are attachments that work on electric drills that mix paint. They will stir more quickly and thoroughly than you can do by hand. Reusable, just warsh and store. Worth every penny. A thick nap roller brush would help.

For concrete and stucco, use the fattest, fluffiest rollers you can find. Those cinderblock walls are going to suck up pain like crazy, and the fluffy rollers will hold more paint and fill nooks and crannies better. Holes and cracks need to be prefilled before final painting. Buy a 5-gallon can, have them mix it up, and slop it on. Paint sits forever in storage and on the shelves and separates. If they mix it, it will be good for a day or so, and easier to mix afterwards.

Hi Nave, First of all, when you bought the paint they should have given you one of the little opener tools. They're usually free and if not they're only about a dollar. They've got what looks like a bent screwdriver tip on it to easily open any paint can. Second, you can also buy a paint mixer Rod that has a little blade on the end that you attach to any cordless drill to mix up your paint. Just remember to start out slowly and don't squeeze the trigger all the way or it will spray paint all over. Sort of like making a smoothie in a blender with the lid off.

You might consider using an 18 inch roller with a roller frame that attaches to both sides of the roller nap. It will paint faster and spread the paint more evenly. Also, don’t be afraid to load the roller up with paint.

Fun stuff! Next time look into something called Block Filler paint. It is made to paint cinder block and fill all the holes and gaps. Also a paint stirring bit for the drill would have saved your arm and some time. Live and learn. You did great Nave!

First off please know that I am sending prayers for you brother. I hope the surgery goes well and that he has a speedy recovery. Now I think you should have rented a sprayer and spray painted the wall. It would have gotten in all the cracks and covered better. You are such a hard worker but sometimes the easier way can be the best way LOl. You have done a great job on it and I cant wait to see it all done!!!!

Very sorry to hear of your brother's accident. There is never a good time for such things. I can only join with others in wishing him well. The basement is starting to show the benefit of all the work you have put in to making it cleaner, brighter and much less scary than it was, that is the good news. I am not surprised that it has taken several coats to achieve improvement, the bad news is that old rough walls take considerable effort and paint to restore them. More good news, you are young, strong and have the energy to get it done, well done.

Preyers for your brother. Quick tip. Use a 3/4 roller knap will get more paint on the walls without taking it off. That would look really clean if you used the same product but tent it like a grey for the floor.

Hope ur brother is ok. Prayers for the family headed ur way. I believe if u got a roller with a thicker nap ur paint would spread easier and u would have a lot less brush work to do. A 1 1/2” would work really well. It’s perfect for brick and cement surfaces.

May your brother have a strong speedy recovery. God Be With him. The basement walls are looking clean and refreshed. It's tedious time consuming paint job but well worth the end results. I know when I did my basement the first time it took 3 times the paint that I estimated. Repainted them after 15 year's still looking great

Hi Nave, I just watched this video and I hope your brother is doing well and healing fast. Also I would like to suggest that one your standing on a chair to reach things like when you are painting to place the back of the chair closest to the wall. I once was doing exactly the same thing as your doing and I stepped back and actually tripped over backwards on the back of the chair and landed on the floor withy legs pointing straight up in the air splitting the my head wide open. The back of the chair prevented me from being able to step down to catch my fall. Had the back of the chair been next to the wall would have prevented me from tripping and landing on my noggin. I wouldn't recommend doing that... it hurt and it sent me to the ER for 9 stitches and spilling paint all over the place...😉
