They want to work at multiple jobs to make ends meet and where the employer can pretty much fire you for calling in sick. They want to side step over the rampant homelessness and drug abuse. I'm a UK citizen. Lived in the US for 30 years, greencard for 21. Paid all my taxes, no criminal anything (not even a speeding ticket). Married to an American for 15 years. I was married before (in the UK), divorced. Of my 5 children, 3 were born in the USA. 1 has an American mom. Of my 2 UK citizen children, 1 has a greencard (even served in the US military, but still not a citizen), the other child moved permanently back to the UK. Early December was my 50-50 point for living UK vs US. So now I've lived in the US more than I ever lived in the UK. My question is why should I (or your wife) go the next step? I will never be outside the US for more than 6 months. Voting is pretty much pointless (I'm in California - it's very Democrat, so my 1 vote is a drop to the 17 million votes), and having the ability to not be on a jury seems like a win according to every American I speak to. Also if I did become a citizen, the idea that if I then leave (which if I did it'd be that I'd do that forever) that I'd be stuck paying US taxes - seems crazy.

Congratulations Feli! So happy to welcome you to this country as an official citizen. People like you make America what it is today and elevate our country. You join millions of your fellow countrymen in coming to this country and contributing immeasurably to our success. You become a US citizen under better circumstances than many, which is probably why it wasn't as emotional as you might have anticipated. One of my ancestors came to America from Germany when his farm became a battleground in the 1800s! My grandmother always told the story of how she and others on her ship burst into tears when they saw the Stature of Liberty on their way to Ellis Island after being trapped in Europe during WWI. There are millions of Americans with similar stories and it made becoming a US citizen something for which they were eternally grateful. You took every part of the process seriously and as a result will probably value your citizenship more than many people who did nothing to earn it. Your knowledge of our history was impressive, and your English skills are incredible. I grew up in northern Ohio and am really amazed you don't have any hint of an accent, unlike many in southern Ohio. Just remember that soccer isn't football and you'll be fine!

Congratulations Feli. I became a citizen long ago. Don’t loose your Certificate of Citizenship you will need it if your passport expires. If you need to make a copy it has to be an authorized copy.
@gregorymauldin59883 күн бұрын
It would probably be a good idea to get an official copy and store the original in a bank's safe deposit box in case anything were to happen to the copy.

I suppose that's the equivalent of a birth certificate or social security card for naturalized citizens.

Happy you are one of us! I'm also an ethic German (technically Prussian). I found a record of one of my ancestor's naturalization (in 1865) The family went to the local courthouse, the German-speaking judge swore the head of the house hold. The language was fairly similar, though it mentioned "The King of Prussia" (In German.) It was less than a year after they arrived. I guess sailing over on a three masted sailing ship was something they didn't wish to repeat. This Eastern Wisconsin area was rather totally German at the time.

German speaking judges/communities in the US are disappearing fast as is German history and even German people (through intermarriages and race mixing). The long war didn't end with the short few years of military conflict, the long war is psychological. When Theodore Kaufman penned "Germany must Perish!" he wasn't alone in the sentiment, nor in the praise it received at the time, nor in the longer aim to destroy not only Germany the country, but Germans - the people - their long long history that predates even the English and the English language. It had to be for a world - wide nationless world order to eventuate. That is how a 3000+ year conflict is dealt with.

I too have Prussian ancestors. My 2nd great grandfather is the one who immigrated, although we have not been able to find any evidence of when or where in Prussia he came from. Even his sons knew nothing of it as on his death certificate everything is unknown. I did find his naturalization paper along with my great grandfather and his 3 brothers which is interesting as they all were born here in Wisconsin.

@@deannawesenberg4211 I'm also from Wisconsin (originally) from Manitowoc. My Prussian immigrants (I think they were all Prussian except for the 1/16th of me that is Czech from a paternal grandmother.) I live in Maryland now as I came here for work after college. I was somewhat lucky as between family letters and LDS record which an unrelated fellow with my surname found. He got it down to a small village in North Poznan Province in present day Poland. As WW II ended, former Posen [Poznan], Pomerania [Pomorza] and parts of Silesia provinces were ceded to Poland as war reparations. The Poles then expelled all the ethnic Germans. This other John (I'm Jon) Teske hired a Polish genealogist to go to our respective villages and photograph them as they are now. So I have an actual place I can point to. In the Czech case we can go to a street address. My Teske ancestors settle in and around Antigo, WI. My grandparents came to Manitowoc when my grandfather was transferred there by J. C. Penneys. His wife's family were from Manitowoc but ended up in Antigo, probably for work.

@callmebigpapa and how, exactly, does an immigrant who knowingly and willingly violates the oath of allegiance, add the the fabric of this country and make it a better place? Especially when she intends to move back to her country of origin.
@callmebigpapa22 сағат бұрын
@@CallSignWeasel-zk2nr She is going to move back here.....havent you see her videos she has been Americanized. I have friends from all over the world (because of my job)who lived here for a while and moved back to their native country only to return to the USA. Despite some faults and having a lot of self hating cry babies I think the US is the best country in the world at this time.
@CallSignWeasel-zk2nr22 сағат бұрын
@callmebigpapa it absolutely is the best country in the world. But with things like the state department refusing to enforce the renunciation clause and permit dual citizenship under color of law, we're quickly diluting that greatness.

I cried during the ceremony 😢 My Mom was born and raised in Germany. My Dad was stationed in Germany in the late 1940's they met, fell in love, and she immigrated to the U.S. I remember when she became a citizen of the U.S. She was very proud and we were too. Congratulations! 🎉
