I have three cats who came into my sanctuary and they are very addicted to dry food. I have bought Dr. Elsy and they love it. It is expensive but I really want them to have a good start to life. They are very young. I have learned so much from your videos. Thank you.

Some great ideas here. Just adopted a Siamese mix from a cat rescue. The foster has tried to get him to eat canned (this rescue does not want cats eating dry!!) and at least gotten on a better quality dry. But can't do anything else. I like your ideas here. Going to try. One other thing--to get the cat off free feeding. Cats in rescue/shelters are often free fed and it's easy to see why.

And also, for treats, at least for the time being, they have been getting Orijen chicken freeze-dried cat treats, and the New Zealand natural lamb green tripe with green lipped muscles, that you reccomended, and it was quite the transition to get them to eat those because they only seem to like turkey and chicken and duck they don't usually eat anything with fish.

That's good they don't like fish! Cats often develop an addiction to fish.

What if you can’t get them to eat freeze dried raw she will eat it dry but not wet isn’t that bad cause it has bone in it and cause dehydration?

Thanks for this video! I have dry kibble addicts and have been trying to figure out how to get them off the dry food. The Feline Natural freeze-dried raw is not crunchy, so they won't eat it. I haven't tried the Raw Paws. Is it crunchy?

Such great ideas! Once again Jess, you rock! I have 3 cats with CKD, one of which is hooked on kibble and eats Hills K/D. She used to eat Orijen. I love your transitioning ideas of freeze dried and air dried. Do you know if any are lower phosphorus for cats with CKD?

Try Weruva! Their wet food are very high in moisture and low on phosphorus.

Hi Jess, Thank you so so much for the link. I like seeing it all together! Lots of good info, some of which I’m currently doing. I will look through it further because I have 3 with CKD, but I was wanting to switch my kibble addict (early stage CKD) using the freeze dried raw or dehydrated like you mentioned. I just was wondering if you knew already which brand might be CKD friendly if any were. Thank you Jess for all you do! You are making a difference in many lives.

Yes first of all thank you so much for all your information I am learning so much from you and from the rescue I have been fostering for. I do have a cat 15 y.o. who absolutely never wanted wet food in his mouth…He is supposed to be on KD and dislikes it… OMG! the CKD cats I have had and lost I feel pretty sure it is not the diet of choice. Presently he is eating Hills ZD… dry only, Loves it. And of course he is prone to urinary blockages constantly.He has sampled frozen raw and freeze dried raw and likes them both. Do You foresee any problems with transitioning this old guy to Raw? Is there a low phosphorus raw?We are going to try this method as I think he will never truly like wet food , baby steps! One piece of kibble out of time it is!

Hills causes a lot of issues involving the kidneys. My cat got a UTI on hills and then we switched him to Iams which gave him another UTI and then organ failure which ultimately killed him. I hope your journey with raw is a success! I would try to transition your cat off of hills and onto a better quality kibble as quickly as possible even before starting with freeze-dried raw because, well… Hills is just terrible and any other cat food is better, even Purina😅 I hope all goes well! This is just my own advice and you don’t have to take it!😅 Good Luck!!

Is it ok to feed a diet of 85 % raw snd 15 % kibble? My cat adores hills T/D kibble and I hate to take something away 100 % that makes him so happy.

I have 2 cats (6 yrs old) that I’ve tried raw a few years ago and they wouldn’t touch it. I did probably give up too soon. Fast forward and I have two other kitties that are both fairly young and they are loving raw. My older girls eat wet and I put some freeze dried pieces on top. One of them I noticed would eat as many freeze dried pieces as I will give her (the other will only eat 2 or 3). So last night and again this morning I gave her three options separated. 1- her wet food 2- her freeze dried pieces 3 - a few pieces of raw chicken. She ate all of the raw both meals!!! I was shocked. But looks like I’m transitioning her to straight raw over the next bit. Unfortunately I’m not too hopeful on my final baby girl. I seriously think she’d go on a hunger strike first because she isn’t food motivated. If I put 4 or 5 freeze dried pieces, 2-3 will go to waste. Not sure if I’ll ever get my picky girl to switch.

I am curious how significantly better freeze dried raw is over wet raw? My cat will eat freeze dried, but I'm a fireman and gone for 24 hours at a time three days a week, so can't leave wet raw out. Thougths?

I like Stella and Chewy's canned food and freeze dried meat, but their freeze dried organ treats (like beef liver or beef heart) are not very good.

I bought Acana dry food the other day, but I am returning it bc like you said before "Any wet cat food is better than the best dry food". I really want to try RAW food on my 2 cats that I suspect have IBD. I am tempted to try Just Food for cats, but not for my 2 young cats with suspected IBD.

I have a video review on Just Food. I think it's a good transition food for cats that are addicted to fish but not so much as a standalone diet. Because then your cats could become addicted to fish. Hi Debbie! YES! Thank you, Jess! That "Any wet cat food is better than the best dry food" REALLY struck me, too! It has become a working mantra around here and has focused me. That and my horrid pet food and poor pet health past.My poor pets! Dry food kitty junkies with organ failure. We are on a food advemnture.
