hehehe surprise Monday upload! I had to cover this as soon as I saw it, hope you enjoy the summary of the game announcement

to be honest, the sims started to gradually become a cash grab after the Sims 2, we all agree that the real magic happened in sims 1 !!!!! I loved the sims 2 and 3 but lets be real, the one that gave us butterflies in our stomachs was sims 1....... when it was new and they were excited to design a game that they didnt know if people would like it or not, thats where the magic happened, the sims 1 even with all its limitations from the year 1999 where it was designed, it had such a feeling of excitement so similar to what im seeing with Life By You, they dont know how will people like it, but its almost 25 years later!!!!! its obviously different graphics and era, and to realize how sims 4 looks compared to other video games from 2023, its just ridiculous, its just so cartoonish !!!! and little things like no cars??? having pizza delivered magically? and I love the sims 4, 3 and 2, but lets be honest, the magic only happened in sims 1, again even with all the old graphics...... I loved the sims 2 but they were starting to do cash grab things, and Will Wright was kinda dismissed when EA took over a little before the sims 2 was made, however, lets hope this new game isnt a fail !!!!!! or a dissapointment, it is promising really, but we shouldn't really have high hopes....... tbh

Yeah, the realism seems strange. What I loved about the sims (mostly 1 and 2) was that despite being a life simulator, it didn't take itself too seriously. I loved the unhinged NPCs and townies, the silliness of those games like the goofy dancing and crying, it just had so much character outside of the life simulating stuff which made it more interesting. The Sims' competitors can't recreate this unique feat and come across as kinda bland in comparison, imo.

i'm very interested in this ! i'm not the biggest fan of the graphics, but i'll get over it ( just like i did with ts3 ) as long as it's fun ! but ngl, it kinda sounds like every kickstarter / Early Access game where they make a ton of promises only for them to rug pull. yet knowing who's behind this, i'm a bit more optimistic. idk if this will be a sims replacer for me --- but i'll def be keeping an eye on it to see how it progresses !

Paradox have stated very clearly that there will be absolutely NO rabbit holes, so assuming there are schools (there seems to be no confirmation on that yet, but I would imagine there is), schools will not be rabbit holes and nothing else will be either.

While I am happy to see a new life sim, I don’t want it to be entirely moddable or customizable to the point it feels like it is empty. Something like The Sims 2 will be perfect.

From what I learned just from their announcement, the mere option to customize and completely mod oneself, you could download others work into your game (meaning, countless gameplay varieties, without ever needing to mod or customize yourself, if you never want to), or just keep all the presets. That is quite the opposite of an empty game, imo. Even EA does not open up the game core mechanic tools to modders, ergo we are stuck with bugs that are rooted within the core, that modders can only help temporarily fix issues, that have to continually be updated as dlc breaks those bug fixes, due to EA's failure to address said bug fixes. Have you played Sim City games before? Then, did you see how much more City Skylines had to offer? I played the originals (as well as future versions and a bit of the dlc) of both, and how Paradox keeps up with their player base, bugs are fixed, without being later broken to dlc. While, I presume there will be quite a lot of future dlc (judging by City Skylines), the cost is far lower than EA's price gauging system, which popular packs rarely go on sale, let alone go beyond a 50% markdown, while Paradox sales are quantifiably more often, they are often universal (all dlc is marked down equally, while just the latest goes on sale for a lower percentage), as well as percentage-wise, even as I type this, all of City Skylines appears to be on sale for 75% off on Steam, as well as you can get the base for as little as 1$ on Humble Bundle, or the Complete Set for as little as 40$. Of course, no matter how often sales are offered, it still won't entice players to buy a game that is relatively bad (I am looking at you Sims 4). I have yet to buy any of the dlc for Sims 4, because I just cannot keep my interest for more than 20 minute increments in the base, and what the dlc seems to offer is less new ways to play, but just more that should have been included in the base. What I also take away from the announcement, it does seem like a complete overhaul of Sims 3 (adding in features to the base that were only tied to paywalls of future dlc), along with an advanced version of the Sims 2 charm. Which seems completely plausible because Rod Humble worked on both, as well as there being a former Sims 3 Guru on board. Like you, something like Sims 2 would be perfect (Sims 2 is my favorite of the franchise), but to advance what we got in both Sims 2 and Sims 3, just seems to be the ultimate chef's kiss❣

I don’t think you’ll find it empty but some Sims fans might think it’s a lot of work or a high learning curve. I recommend you look for a paradox game on sale and play the basegame to get a feel for what they prioritize. To me there is nothing more enjoyable than CK3 but friends have actually groaned in frustration just looking at my laptop while it’s open

From what I see so far, it's looking a bit too complicated. I hope it won't end up being a requirement that I have to mod the game to make it fun. I hope there's plenty to do in the game without the need to customize it to that extent. I'm not loving the lighting too. It looks a bit dark and reminiscent of The Sims 3. I love TS3 but the lighting there was so dark without a mod. I have reservations but I'm looking forward to this game! Competition for The Sims is good and it's about time we get another life sim game as immersive as The Sims.

The graphics don't grab me either, but they may change a lot before release. Secondly, there'll be a shitload of modders scrambling to mod for this game because of the massive modding features it has. So I wouldn't worry too much about having to mod too much. Before you know it there'll be more mods available than you could possibly sift through. And THIS game will have actual depth to it, a lot more immersive than The Sims has been since The Sims 2.

Paralives looks very promising, but they're a very small indie studio building a their first complex life-sim game from scratch. It'll take them years until release. So until then, Life by You can fill the role of the Sims alternative.

@@dracomet2097 There'll be a lot of expansions of course, but the expansions will actually contain expansion to gameplay, unlike The Sims so-called expansions, and they'll have twice the content at literally half the price of The Sims 4. DLC isn't generally a bad thing. It let's people expand their gameplay. What IS bad is the exploitative behaviour of certain companies like EA, who simply add a bit of very minimal linear scenario graphics, copy and paste some old features into it and call that an expansion. THAT is bad DLC. Paradox generally do GOOD DLC. Not all DLC is bad.

I'm always happy to see potential competitors coming out. That said, I'm also going to be skeptical until the game is actually out and playable. We heard about Paralives years ago, and that project has yet to show us anything particularly impressive.

Probably because paralives is Made by indie Dev who don't have access to tons of immediate resources, but Life by you is made by paradox, a huge well known company (and notoriously known for having DLC policy as horrible as EA)

The game is being built by a team of 11 people and when it was first "announced" (in 2020 mind you, 3 years is not nearly enough for a game of this scope.) the team consisted of literally just Alex. And have you been keeping up with the development at all? The different height interactions is particularly impressive. The whole procedural animations thing is.

The early access will be out September 12 of this year. And unlike EA, Paradox does cater to its User base. Although we have not heard about Life by You until their teaser, they have been working on the game for a decade. As for Paralives, they are an indie company that does not have the resources that triple A publishing companies have. Because of that, their staff is smaller and they have to rely on crowd startup funding to implement all ideas into functionality. That does not mean it will be lacking, just that it will take more time. Just remember, many popular games are indie games: Minecraft, Binding of Isaac, Hollow Knight, just to name a few.

One of the thing that has me wondering is if there will be seasons in the game because it seems that they implemented a full 12 month calendar to the game, and all the footage was captured on the summer months so it was sunny in all their footage. Can it be that for example as time advances and the months change seasons will also change? Will we have holidays according to which day of the month you're in? So many questions and possibilities I really can't wait to see what more the development team has in store for us. For now this game really seems too good to be true

There's no roadmap that I know of, so that we can find out what their intentions are before full release. They might add it, but at this stage it looks like it might be DLC and that's okay. This is so important! Bringing out my inner liberalist (which I normally don't), isn't market competition usually what drives companies to compete with each other, to offer the best possible product they can? EA & Sims have had the monopoly on life simulators for soooo long and because of that, there's no need for them to really *try*. No reason to make a good product. Consumers will buy it anyways, even these unfinished, broken, and quite frankly shitty packs they've been releasing for Sims 4. Hopefully Life by You will add some competition, causing Sims 5/Project Rene to be even BETTER, while simultaneously causing Life by You to also improve everything they can during early access. I truly see this as being the best thing that could happen for both games to improve as much as possible. The timing really couldn't be more perfect, with both Life by You *and* Project Rene being in development at essentially the same time.

I love cities skylines so I'll 100% give this game a try when it comes out. Personally I've never enjoyed ts3 visuals or gameplay and this looks like it a lot :| color wheel, dynamic world and pudgy semi realistic people are just not my thing. But if it can be customized to look more unique and cartoony and gives you the options to have more direct control over the world it would be great. The fact that it's very mod friendly gives me hope.

Completely disagree. Cities: Skylines is playable and enjoyable without any DLC. Just because there are a lot of options doesn't mean they are mandatory. I certainly haven't spent 1K on Cities Skylines and I've been able to pick and choose what I want to add to my game.

Paradox does have a lot of DLC that should/could be in the base game but their base games are usually complete and totally playable without DLC. Their DLC does also get put on sale often so it’s easy to pick up a lot of extra content without spending too much.

Paradox DLC content is always a fun surprise, rather than feeling like it should have been a patch to an unfinished game. I don’t know how any simulation game would not have tons of dlc unless it’s subscription based live service or something else expensive

The game sounds promising but this is just my personal preference but I am not a huge fan of how the character's visuals look, yk how in Sims 2(and sims 3 too I think??) we can change the default skin, hair, genetics and clothes? I hope we can do the same in this game as well since its just that customisable. This is why I enjoyed playing sims 2 more, because all the sims including NPCs looked pretty for me unlike in Sims 4 where my sims would be in pretty MM cc like skin overlays and hairs and the NPC would be wearing random and ugly stuff

The game has a very unique proposal. It stands out and gives something unique of its own, beyond The Sims; which is a great way of creating its own image. But at the same time, it feels really foreign and even scary to me. It just feels too ambitious, too broad. It makes me worried that it will end up being full of bugs like Sims 3 or non-user friendly like Second Life... It`s just hard to predict what is going to happen in the future with this game.

I definitely felt a little alarmed watching this video. It has so many new and unique aspects that distinguish it from all the previous Sims games so far. I mean, direct player control, real generated conversations between characters, entirely interactable, open world with no rabbit holes, easy and built-in tools to modify the game itself…these things are quite literally game-changing for the life-sim genre. I don’t like the graphics at all, but perhaps it is too early to judge the final look of the game, considering that we are at least another year out from final release. I do hope they make each element of the game work, all the while making sure to optimize its performance. There are many potential pitfalls, but I do hope this project succeeds. Better to be optimistic than pessimistic, I think

Idk if the specific dialogues like that are gonna be good for the game. One of the things on the sims is that the dialogues are kinda generic you can have your reading of what the characters are saying to each other. Regardless, i'll be sure to follow this game, it will be giving EA some much needed competition!

I'm a casual sims player but I have played a bunch of other paradox games. Just hope everyone knows the rabbit holes they might go down. First off probably get ready for lots of dlc. It's all great dlc but uhhh yeah. Second this is the company that brought us Crusader Kings and Stellaris. I think this will be definitely toned down in terms of the usual paradox flavor but I would still brace myself for some disturbing concepts or people being allowed to put that stuff in their game. Not gonna lie if they make it so you can have sims murder other Sims I'll be extremely happy. Just hope they have good ghost, werewolf and vampire mechanics so I can finally make a being human household.

No game is for everyone. Some people like the better graphical Sims 4 and would rather have a graphical experience over proper mechanics and customization. Some people like dollhouses. Me, I’m not one of them, but if it makes them happy then good for them. This game is what I thought should have come after Sims3. A not dumbed down game because someone maybe playing it on a game boy color so everyone must suffer. The customization is enormous for those who like to create the world they want their Cims to live in rather than accept that they have no life outside the home. Life by You from what I’ve seen is great for creative people or those who think life simulation actually means simulating life. They give every tool to modders up front to create and share and make new worlds and stories to their hearts content. That’s not unusual for Paradox as Cities:Skylines has over 360,000 custom content in Steam workshop created by modders and Paradox loves that and brags about it. In the end, if players can make their game come alive then their dev team can focus on adding dlc relevent to different game play rather than milking us for stuff that’s not relevent to gameplay or breaks everything else. Also, you can expect modded content not to break with every update because the systems they are built on isn’t what changes in the future. Now, that all being said, we still don’t know as much as we could. It’s early alpha but from what I understand they have spent a few years working on this. So if they say something is in the game, I fully suspect that that system is fleshed out at least and not lying ak No Man’s Sky (though Hello Games redeemed that game). There are immediate questions like will Cims die? Are they fully autonomous? Then the future questions like will occults be available at some point as dlc. You just can’t compare both games. One might be pretty but shallow and lacking gameplay mechanics. The other could be not dazzling graphically but be a gameplay dream. Both are fine. I can’t believe how many people think have choices is overwhelming so the should stay with the Sims. Games aren’t going to entice everyone. I look forward to lby because it already looks like I thought a life sim could be. I’ll still play Sims 3 and I just can’t get into Sims 4. Graphics isn’t everything (otherwise Minecraft wouldn’t be the most popular game ever) but to me customizing how I want my Cims to play and interact with the world I want them to live in whether good or not is what appeals to me. So bring on the Sims competitors because we all win in the end.

I do like how its Going to be a Game we all can Have a say in but it Really needs Work Visually (the Humans in this Look Worse than the Sims 3 ones currently hope they Make them less like Clay before the early Access Starts) and i am Hoping to god the Hair Base Colours the natural Selection is not Just Black Blond and Brown Only we need Verity with our Base options even with a CAS option

It looks a little empty like npc wise like all over the town weather it’s your neighborhood your out shopping the beach etc there should be active npcs everywhere like in real life I’m still excited to try this out sims 4 at this point doesn’t care they know they have a huge following so they just dish out what ever . I’ll be done with them soon I had enough of I completed or buggy packs of patches

Sweet, now I don't have to dread how much farther the EA beancounters will drive the Sims franchise down the crapper with Sims 5. This is what Sims 4 should've been. I'm gonna actually buy this one when Early Access drops, and I normally don't do that with new games. Paradox took the city-builder crown from EA after that atrocity that succeeded SimCity 4, (I refuse to name it as a SimCity game because... it's just not) and now they're gonna do it again with this. Love me some Skylines and the modding scene for Skylines is amazing.

Not at all! There seem to be lots to do in game already without any modding requirements from players, but the option to heavily mod it is there for you if you don’t like something they’ve made!

I have get my gaming computer as it seems the specs will be quite high. I hope they’ll include seasons, pets and occults at some point too. I’ve pre ordered it ($60 Australian). I don’t usually do that this early, but as I’m likely to not have TS5 (put off by cloud and sub), I’ll be exploring all my options including Paralives.
