The Russo-Ukrainian war has been defining this year in terms of global conflict with no signs of stopping soon. Before the invasion formally started, saying Ukraine was the clear loser of the two was an easy claim, but here we are still with Ukraine still putting up a mighty fight. This war has quickly become an arms race on whichever side has the stronger set of artillery weapons. Recently, the United Kingdom has sent Ukraine several units of the M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS), an armored, self-propelled, multiple rocket launcher. You know how little Ukraine has actually gotten? 8 missile launcher systems. 8. For a frontline that's like 1000km long, if not more. The US committed 40 billion. Most of it is aid to be spent over 10 years. 12.5 is for weapons (for comparison that's about 1.5% of the total yearly defense budget). Out of that 12.5, they've sent 700 million, and just cleared a 1 billion dollars more but that's not gonna arrive for a while They truly are doing a whole lot with very little, when you consider what they're up against

Yea. it's a squeeze. only the US has major reserve stock. the M142 truck missile launchers that seem perfect for this situation - US Military has a TOTAL of less than 400, so Ukraine is probably not going to get more than 50. still significant > I see like 6 or 7 each around Odessa, Dnipro, Kherson when that is retaken, strong base around Kramatersk & Donetsk (just cherry picking names of course ) - enough to form a strong defensive backbone. to me they need a good mobile antiaircraft SAM system, their old USSR systems being rapidly used up, no replacements. I understand England is or has replaced its Rapier 2000 with a totally new system, maybe there are minim 50 + Rapier avail for the same purpose, strong Mid Ukraine defense. Espec as they were designed with some cruise missile defense ability. New manufacture of systems is at least a year from operation, what is in reserve stock NOW ? and crews of course. 3 or 4 guys for each, actually double that for 24 hour duty.... that's 1500 out for a month of training.

US and UK should give Ukraine the 300 km rockets so Snake Island becomes a desert for Russia which does not own it. They will take a relatively long time before they are in place, however, Ukrainian troops must learn to operate them, and if they do not come with an anti-air system, the risk is relatively high that they will be knocked out by the Russian air force. There are also too few. But few are better than none of course.

The training is literally what is slowing the process down. We're getting the shipments of American equipment within days of their being announced on the Polish border. We hold the equipment unti Ukraine has people in place to move them and use them so they don't become combat losses before they can be used in combat.

Ukraine asked for MLRS and HiMARS, so I suspect the rocket systems are 1st, and a close 2nd are 155mm artillery systems including M-777, M-109, Paladin, Caesar. Pretty much any 155mm system that can fire the Excalibur round. The promised German systems would be nice, but no one has seen them yet. They also seem to like the Ma Duce Browsing M2 50 cal.

The Donbas and Eastern Ukraine is a Maze of Rivers and Streams with most of the roads and bridges unable to support a vehicle weighing 55,000 lbs which is the same Argument to Not Send German Leopard Tanks. The M142 HIMARS is more practical at around 36,000 lbs. Even the limited Bridging Gear they have is only good for 50,000 lbs.

At 1:50 Yom Kippur War did not involve US forces (it was an Arab - Israeli war). Submunitions are mentioned in several places. "Cluster munitions" are banned so no longer available for the M270. But Russia still ignores international standards and continues in its own barbaric way to use them against civilian targets. I, as a UK citizen, continue to be embarrassed by the inaction of the West's military in this conflict. We intervened in Iraq, Bosnia, ... but, apparently, somewhere along the way, western leaders lost their balls. Intervening would give Putin the Pathetic an excuse to end the war and withdraw.

Ukraine is the second largest land mass-country in Europe, after giant Russia itself; and Russia's invading it from the north to the south, making incursions on half of Ukraine's borders... and if you counted the dangerous from that long piece of land bordering western Ukraine, in Moldova, that Russia also has thousands of "peace keeping" soldiers, Ukraine is surrounded on 3/4 by Russians. Having 3 or such from the UK and 4 from the US is literally a drop in a giant bucket... it's not going to make much of a difference by themselves, even if all 7 of them are perfectly intact throughout the war. Ukraine will have to have at least 30 to 50 of them to begin to make some serious impact on Russia's spearheading units. While deadly, these are expensive, complex, and VULNERABLE weapons; they themselves need an extra layer of safeguard themselves; and while the radar and electronics sent along with these weapons are good, again, they don't and can't safeguard themselves; they need dozens to hundreds of Ukrainians and other equipment/assets to safeguard them. There's no free lunch, at the very best! Ukraine will have to invest serious military assets to protect just these 7 units; and they can't even hit more than 50 miles; nor are they allowed to target Russians inside Russia... So, in many ways, even with half a dozen mid range weapons systems like these MRLS/HIMARS, Ukraine is asked to tie one of its hands behind its back. Russia --- the much larger, better equipped, superior country --- has no such one-hand-tied its back conditions.... it can and it does target Ukraine from the Donbas all the way to western Ukraine/Lviv...

I don't think this video mentioned how many mlrs are going to be sent to Ukraine. The US can afford to send them 20% of the 1,300 that it and Europe has. We can also send Ukraine 20% of the 4,400 M1 tanks that it has. Why have these weapons if you can't make full use of them when needed? Would the US and Britain be stingy if Europe was being invaded?

The M270 MLRS are helpful indeed, but Muscovy is still outgunned Ukraine in artillery about ten to one. And this British and American systems barely cover the Ukrainian losses right now, unfortunately.

There are some problems you all seem to miss in why there are not more weapons in place faster. Ukraine has mostly Soviet-era weapons and munitions, and they're transitioning into NATO-standard weapons. They have to train crews on every weapon they receive, but you also don't want to ship weapons across the border until they can be manned correctly because you don't want them to become combat losses. Almost every weapon that is pledged, like the American HiMars, is currently having crew members trained and will soon be ready to be manned, and as the next crew starts training, the shipment for the next weapons will be slotted. It's called creating a weapons pipeline, and it is the way that the weapon will find the most success now and into the future because it will have competent crews manning it right from the beginning. Ukraine needs the weapons, but the weapons need the best possible soldiers manning them, which takes not just the best people, but also the best training. It will start to become more and more noticeable that there will be a shift in which Ukraine's capabilities will turn the front from being a stagnant back and forth, and into something where Russia no longer has firepower advantages. The training is literally what is slowing the process down. We're getting the shipments of American equipment within days of their being announced on the Polish border. We hold the equipment until Ukraine has people in place to move them and use them so they don't become combat losses before they can be used in combat

Q: weapons need the best possible soldiers manning them... A: Ukraine already has them. The Ukrainian SSR had three biggest artillery command schools in the USSR, all inherited by Ukraine. They graduated more educated artillery officers than any other country in Europe if not entire Europe, dozens of thousands. Which fact does explain the number of spectacular videos here on KZbin.

Nice, but in my mind is the M270 not the best choice for Ukraine because the mobility from this heawy tracked vehicle is petty bad, and it's a high value target for russian attacks, better to send in big number lighter wheeled M142 who are low cost, and very mobile: the only difference is that the ML270 can hold twice the ammunitions...

Russia has 20-1 advantage in artillery canons. The front is so vast that a dozen MLRS will not be enough to even the odds. What Ukraine urgently needs is those 30 or so Mig SU 25 that Ukrainian pilots know how to fly. Jets could even the odds by destroying the artillery of Russia, and its cruise missile launchers. Also the Crimea bridge could be wrecked in one Sortie. Russia's navy could be gone allowing grain to reach hungry people starving around the world.

MiG SU-25? I think you are confused, MiG and Sukhoi are not the same. Even if Ukraine could acquire those aircraft they have no airfields left to operate them from, pretty much all of Ukraine’s airbases have been destroyed with precision cruise missile strikes.
