It's insane how we have come so far in aeronautics. Just a 100 years ago, nobody could have imagined something like this. I wonder what we will achieve in the next 100 years.

Now just think, this is just what we know about. Like a friend of mine said "of course this is all we know about. Why would anyone want their enemies to know what's in our hand?" Very true too. It's always best to have an ace up our sleeve
@scottswan7830
@scottswan7830 Жыл бұрын
@@Jake-if3zn oh yeah. The US became a Master at hiding it's technology in the cold war. Once Russia lost it's ability to steal technology the USSR was on borrowed time. Chinas more of the problem now. Stealth technology has been around for years when the US finally used it. They have been using hypersonic missiles since the 1950s but to hear the media talking about it America still can't make them. The US spends more on black projects than Russia spends on it's entire military and area 51 doesn't hide alein technology it hides advanced US technology and I hope they keep it that way.
@Jake-if3zn
@Jake-if3zn Жыл бұрын
@@scottswan7830 absolutely. People think that Japan and China have the most advanced technology and are years, if not decades ahead of us. But in reality, we're just putting our tech on full display for the world. And I also agree that I hope we keep it that way. Because ya never know when you need to use if the aces up our sleeve.

1) The competition between the YF-22 and YF-23 (ATF) was announced while both aircraft were still in development stages. The YF-22 was announced as the winner in a VERY public decision in 1991 many years before the F-22 made IOC. While the details of both aircraft were kept mostly under wraps, the public was well aware of it from day 1. Regarding someone else’s statement about the F-117 - it made IOC in 1983 and was an open secret in every major aviation periodical of the time. We knew it existed, but had no idea what it looked like until late 1988 when a degraded photo was released on the cover of Aviation week. It was first used in combat during operations in Panama the next year. So it was absolutely known to exist for years before we saw it. The best examples of operational aircraft actually being kept “secret” would be the Lockheed A-12 and MAYBE the RQ-170. The A-12 was operational from 1963 to 1968 but wasn’t revealed to the public until around 1994. The SR-71 was announced while it was still under development and served as the perfect “cover” for the A-12 (as the -71 was an updated and larger USAF version of the A-12 Oxcart program). Even the RQ-180 was known to be in existence and operational for years before the first armature photos were published in the last two years (over the Philippines and in closed airspace over Groom Lake). As far as this alleged “6th Generation” fighter is concerned, there have been a lot of artist renderings circulating for at least ten years now, but the program (primarily NGAD) is still in the development phase. They have likely narrowed it down to two primary contractors who are teamed up with other aerospace companies (like every other major fighter project in the last 35 years). There ARE working prototypes flying now. NGAD and the Navy programs are not the same airplane. The Navy has very specific issues maintaining all aspect “stealth” and other requirements that necessitate features that are pointless on Air Force planes. The F-35 will likely be the last time we see an attempt made to intentionally develop one airplane for multiple services. Folks, the days of projects like these being kept “secret” are LONG gone. With the exception of one-off or VERY low rate builds (say 10 or less), it is neigh on impossible to keep the lid on these things. Allowing little snippets and broad details to make it to the public is actually a good thing. It keeps out adversaries guessing and causes them to use their limited time and resources to try to figure out what we are up to. There is strategic value in talking openly about these projects. Just because it isn’t typically front page news doesn’t mean it’s not widely known. Learn to read Congressional line item budgets and pay attention to quarterly defense contractors earnings reports and you will quickly be able to figure out who is getting the contracts and will also allow you to have a fairly good idea of WHAT is being built.

Helped invent. Very American. Let me educate you, the wright brothers passed the test for first flight e.g two way recorded flight ( out and return , although we are talking less than a mile). The first actual flight of a modern style plane was either Alberto Santos-Dumont or Gustave Whitehead and the father of flight if not is Sir George Cayley and Englishman who created the principles of flight about 100 years before the wright brothers, and a glider 60 years before the wright brothers

The main control panel is a sophisticated digital monitor that displays only what one requires within the current circumstances. For example, if one is flying over Mach 2 at 20,000 metres in altitude, the screen simply will not display the landing gear actuators, or those to open the cockpit canopy. If one is taxiing on the runway, the means to launch missiles will not appear. All one would see would be what one would need.

Personally I feel Laser tech will be the killer of missiles in the long run mainly because lazer moves at the "speed of light" which obviously much faster then both missiles and bullets. I'm no scientist but on a much larger scale the same type of lazer tech might be capable of taking out ICBM missiles that could house nukes, bioweapons or some explosive substance which is what the next gen developers should be aiming for!

Until they make the rockets reflective? Lol. Laser is interesting but the energy required isn’t there yet.

Laser tech is already here for the taking, but just keep in mind these government contracts rely on big Fed budgets and the current contractors are in no hurry to relinquish their grasp. It cost less than a dollar to fire off the deadly lasers our navy is currently using...

The limiting factor is now the slab of meat that sits in the cockpit. This generation of new fighters will probably be the last that pilots get to fly.
