I'm in training for 10M Air Pistol. Formally I shot .22 cal. smallbore Olympic rifle, which I still enjoy shooting.

Thank you for valuable advise! I am sorry to hear about the accident. Yes, I am planing to get Baikal 46M soon, already researched a lot, including Russian sources (I can read Russian). I made a mistake, I got Crossman 2300S. It had good review. The pistol is ok, but I can see/feel quite strong recoil. Also some parts look cheaply made. Now I am selling it and will get Baikal once it is sold. Thanks again for your advices.

I wish you good luck. I am sure you will enjoy your new hobby. also suggest you purchase some pistol target shooting books and read them completly and then re-read them often. This will really help you.

I was and came in first place in 1992-1993 small bore championship in NYS for unranked shooters. This made me a "Marksman". Presently I am a member of the Nashville Match Masters Pistol Club, an NRA competitive club. However I am not participating due to a hearing loss last summer as a result of someone firing a 308 while I had no ear protection at a another range. So now I am also training at home with air rifles and pistols and even a Daisy 499B B-B gun that is used in NRA 5 Meter competions.

I suggest you get either a Daisy 777 .17 cal match pistol or a Russian made Baikal 46M .17 match pistol for starters. Both can get you into the state championships and are under $500 new. They are single stroke pneumatic pistols with match grade sights and accuracy also they come with match wooden grips. The 46M grips are adjustable. Velocity around 560fps. Use H&N Match pellets and 10M Tarrgets and a backstop.
