My wife got a large bonus as a nurse during COVID and called to ask how much she should withhold for taxes because all her coworkers said she should take it all and pay not taxes...my response was that is fine if you are responsible enough to have a few thousand in April when you pay your taxes. She then said everyone was asking for overtime shifts in April cause they all got their tax bills and had no money to pay them. It's insane the mindset people have with money.

Did the same with a government payment through Covid when they offered set amounts of financial aid depending on your financial situation. But you had to pay back a certain amount as well obviously. So I just kept the amount I knew I had to pay back to them from the money they gave me…. Sure i had less than taking all the money but I got free money basically by paying them with the money they gave me.

Similar here, i also work in nursing and we got a covid bonus and everyone was complaining about how much they would get taxed. How could you ever complain about making more money, i don’t understand

I worked in a hospital in Minnesota that did a bonus for covid as well. I saw the same thing. I added the bonus money to my savings for a down payment. I bought a solid house. I moved into the basement and rented out the upper floors to a nice couple. The rent pays for everything except the water and garbage bills. I was able to live for a couple of years without any housing costs. The savings more than covered my tax obligations in April.

My husband and I live well below our means. We live simply and always will. We do have 3 kids, the most complicated part of our life, and they’re always coming home to tell us about their friends fancy homes, possessions, cars, and vacations.( We go on some decent family vacations, but we stay in the country. ). Anyway. It is so HARD to not get so frustrated and throw the friends under the bus that based on what I know about most people-those possessions represent debt!! Gah!! We don’t look rich, but we are set up well and our kids will likely not have to have college debt early in their lives. One day they will realize.

I have a backup vehicle, but that is because together they are worth less than 10k and both over 200kmiles. The risk of not being able to work is worth the small maintenance expense of having 2 trucks.

Im 29, at a decent financial state but i still watch all of Caleb's videos haha! Theres always something to learn, and another persons situation to learn from. From cultural differences to the American dream! I drill this into my younger cousins/siblings that are just becoming independent (18-22 yrs olds) 😂

Go to community college in district and then go to in state. I went to community college and got Pell grants but it was out of district (we didn’t pay taxes to the school, but it was the closest community college). I think it was a total of like 5k after grants for two years. Then went to in state university and got grants till like the last year I think cause my dad got a new job. I think we payed a total of like maybe 15-20k for the last two years.

I'm so happy to live in a country where (unless you have a business) the taxes are taken out of your salary based on the income you predict you will have (and you can change it whenever if the situation changes) and you can apply for tax exemptions before or after the tax year. I think many adults lack the discipline to do it the US way.

Americans are so far removed from the Great Depression and before the government bailed everyone out. I am 60 and my grandparents lived the Great Depression which rubbed off on my parents, which was somewhat handed down to me but most people are oblivious to hard times and standing on their own two feet and I was a bit like the MGs - my dad passed when I was 7 so we didn’t have lots of money growing up.

MGs - here’s a question that I have been pondering - I am 60, I have a small pension that will pay me about $1,300/mo and am currently working. I have an IRA that was converted from a 401k. I have two small Roths that were back door from the main IRA. I have a Self-directed with about $20,000 in gold. I cannot participate in a pre-taxed IRA because of the pension and I make too much anyway. I have 2 brokerage accounts - figuring that I will be taxed at the lower long-term cap gains rate. I am in CA and pay about 8% in state income tax. My question is - I know you can’t give specific advice - should I keep putting money into the brokerage accounts or stop and put the money into an After-tax IRA. The eventual taxes would be higher but I plan on retiring in TN or AZ or NC - either no or low state income taxes. The growth would all be tax-deferred and I can move things around without tax consequences. Which would you do - brokerage or After -tax IRA, in this situation? We make over $300,000 and our tax basis is around 22-24%. BTW, my wife has a 401k too but my dilemma is this brokerage vs. after tax IRA.

ACC May be cheaper than Universioty of Texas or Baylor but it is FAR from the cheapest community college. If you can afford to drive a bit there are better options.

ROI calculators for degrees don't count the time it takes you to get the degree, and they also put you at only making 30k/yr without the degree... so spending 100k to make 50/yr looks like a great ROI because you're making 67% more that you "would be" making and you made back your money back in "just" 5 years even though its really never when add the fact you can easily make 50/yr without a degree. The reality is that ROI would have a negative ROI... "but the intangibles!!" Give me a break..

Ain't been on the show but I've got myself a theoretically fully funded emergency fund and 10k in s&p by the end of the year because I have an incredibly addictive behavior mind in good and bad ways andy obsession has become finances so I'll dump every excess penny I make for years into this plus I've found a potentially double to triple my income stream but at minimum another 50percent that will be going on 3 months and it's all because I became obsessed with Caleb show then the money guy

I graduated 8 years ago and I'm finally making the money I expected to be making. A state college back then was like 20k/year... That's 80k in student loans.. What got me about "I have a degree in Information Systems" is that he's going to go into any job he deems below him (hospitality and service) and then rather than learning the ways and tactfully making a recommendation to veterans in those areas, he's going to be smug and arrogant that he knows better because "I have a degree in Information systems". The dude is unemployable and would be miserable to work with anywhere.

When done correctly cars can be a good investment, spending a little more money to get a good reliable car can allow you to get anywhere you need to. I don’t understand why people spend so much money on terrible cars and do zero research on the second biggest investment they normally make in their lives. Get a good reliable car, not a fancy one and it’s an investment in yourself by giving you the freedom and opportunity to seek the best options you have.
