Deregulate, and refuse to bail them out. Let the free market take care of them. Great video Dal!

then people would lose pensions, deposits and jobs

No, if you refuse to bail them out then banks will be more careful and not be so reckless (as they were in 2008). If the government from 2002-2008 had never given the impression that they would bail out banks then the 2008 crisis would have been very small in the UK. If you bail out the losers then we get to a "participation trophy" economy. Recessions can be good because it creates a deep cleansing of the economy where bad institutions go away and are replaced with good efficient ones. NEVER BAIL OUT BANKS AGAIN!

Friedrich Hayek yeah I agree but I recon one bank needs to fail for banks to truly understand that they won't be bailed out, which would be v bad, but yeah I do agree with you

The banking sector is massively inefficient and "evil" because of government guarantees. Remove that and they will fall in line and be responsible. Tbh the Bank of England also rigged LIBOR rates so the entire place is corrupt.

It wouldn't have been possible to not bail them out in 2008 especially in the US where there's almost as many guns as people. Huge increases in unemployment would have led to the breakdown of society and endless rioting etc.

freely functioning financial markets fail to allocate financial products sounds like a tongue twister

what kind of a market failure are you talking about? is it in consumption or production?
@joewatkins16677 жыл бұрын
production i would have thought
@josephdowse9227 жыл бұрын
Yes, I'm fairly certain its the supply of loans

Is the negative externality from bank bailouts a negative production externality ?
@UTK37 Жыл бұрын
yes
@tiraminess Жыл бұрын
yes this is production - dal argues that loans can be negative or positive externalities. they can have negative ext for instance if they are loaned to very risky individuals who may have a high chance of defaulting, but the bank benefits from a high interest rate conversely, they can have positive ext if banks do not lend to those more likely to repay loans in full, such as through monopoly power and bank collusion
